Today's Art of the Season in honor of Hurricane Ida and the hope that the storm will not be too bad.

The Storm ~ Rembrandt van Rijn, 1606-1669
I got my errands run yesterday. I did the bank, then the supermarket for yogurt and salmon, then the green grocer (Yang's in Berwyn) for fresh vegetables. He had the most delicious smelling strawberries, 2 pounds for $5, so how could I pass that up. They're good too. I'm all stocked up with romaine, green beans, parsley, scallions, radishes and cherry tomatoes.
Bubba is still sulking, but I can tell he's drinking when I police his commode. He's spending a lot of time in a hidey hole I made him in the closet. I put an old pillow back in a corner and leave the folding door open just enough for him to get in. At least it's easier to clean the cat hair there than under the head of the bed.
Plan for today: Lesley will be here in a little while to do the laundry and change my bed. I'm headed to the supermarket for some meat for the freezer and she'll carry that in and put it away. Other than that, I just have some things to write and a few phone calls.
Menu for today: breakfast - pumpkin muffin, milk. lunch - salmon salad with cucumbers and tomatoes. Snack - strawberries, yogurt. Supper - lentil curry with yogurt and salad. Snack - herbal tea, rice cake, farmer cheese.
The clouds have rolled in and it's cooler today. We expect rain tomorrow. Those lovely days were wonderful, but I can feel winter setting in. The trees are nearly bare now. It's a little sad, but it's time to find all those indoor projects I like and get busy.
I'm thinking of resuming my hall walking exercise program. The plan is to do the length of both wings, which means walking all the way to the end and back to the center, then going down one flight. If I can keep at it this time, I'll increase and do two floors and two flights when I feel able, etc. I might ask a few people to join me. Who knows, maybe I'll graduate to stair climbing again.
Today: Think of the people living on Gulf Coast.
Hey! I LOVE this one! It reminds me of another famous painting of the sea that hangs in the Boston Museum of Fine Art - I can't for the life of me remember who painted the one I'm reminded of, but one of the differences is sharks surrounding the boat in the storm. At any rate, great choice today! And I will keep the Gulf folks in my thoughts today. Enjoy your walks :) |
The picture today is rather ominous...but then, I'm afraid of boats. Well, the water, actually. Hope you are feeling well! *pets Bubba* |
maybe you are thinking of a painting by John Constable? Hurricanes are not to be trifled with. Saw another photo of unthinking people standing in the high surf of Ida in the paper today. Too bad they can't just stop printing photos of people being stupid, but in case they get washed out to see in the incredible undertow then at least someone can identify them. It is so funny how stubborn Bubba is being! Cats are such interesting characters. Enjoy your indoor walk! |
Your food for today sounds wonderful! I love muffins but find they dont fill me up at all. So I am always wary of making them at home, since the calories just add up. But salmon salad sounds amazing! I LOVE salmon! |
good morning. I am huddled by the wood stove as I am typing this. Couple of guys are helping David fix the heater/airconditioning unit. It was sooooooo cold when I got up and took my shower. It was 60 degrees in the house. a bit cold to take a shower. It will be nice to have the heater working again. The pumpkin recipe looks good. I have a container in the fridge of bran muffins that you can leave in there for 6 weeks and bake fresh as you want them. have a God day!! love, Karen |
I tagged the recipe, thanks it made me look at all my tagged things from so long ago! I have some good stuff in there :) Enjoying your FB status'! Would love to hear you have rounded up all your friends and started an exercise group where you live :) good luck! |
Thanks for the recipe claire, I really want to make some. I have so much trouble finding something I like to eat for breakfast. The picture is scary. I haven't gotten invoved in any FB. the school system has fired people over whats in theor face book and I figure the less they know about me the better. Bubba is willful isn't he? Mattie is a mainecoon and very layed back. she doesn' t hind she naps in the middle of the living room floor or on her window bed. My GD cat drinks out of the bathroom, they just gave up. Have a good day. |
