In my last entry I just noticed I put Pearl got her teeth in less than 2 hours, now THAT would be scary. Reality is less than 24 hours.

Still here!

Alive and well! In the new place, working a new job for 2 weeks now, just 20ish hours a week from Thursday-Sunday so it's not horrible. I'm doing the barista thing again, this time at Panera Bread. Eventually moving to baking I think.

Pearl is almost 7 months old, she has two teeth and she is crawling. Both new milestones happened the week of Halloween. She got both teeth in less than 2 hours, that was HELL. Since they broke through she has stopped drooling so much that she needed a constant bib, so that has been saving on laundry. :)

Hope you all are doing well and losing or maintaining! I have been GAINING but my nose is back to the grindstone after I decided to check the calories in my Panera bagel this morning AFTER I ate it.

Moving!

We're finally getting out of this apartment! Moving in two weeks, the weekend of the 17th and 18th, to this city. We'll be living downtown, in the art's district. We got a two bedroom place on the fourth floor of an old renovated brick building, so there are exposed brick walls, wooden ceilings, it's old and full of character! We're walking distance to so much, coffee shops, record stores, thrift stores, a venue where punk bands play, and an Irish pub two buildings away. :)

It figures we're moving the week of Pearl's 6 month well baby. so she will be getting vaccinations along with her flu shot. Hopefully she does well enough with them! I put in an order from a work at home mom today to get a new style of sling, one like this

so hopefully she will consent to helping mama unpack! We ordered a solid color... a deep purple.

A recent picture of Pearl

My new living room and living room ceiling...

Carrots?

It's been a little bit since I got on here with enough time to journal! Right now the baby is napping and my bread dough is rising, it's my first time making bread from scratch so I went with the easy 4 ingredient French bread.

Had Pearly at the pediatrician yesterday after a few off days, it turns out she is allergic to carrots. We have to be careful with other root veggies and she's lucky she didn't have the same reaction to sweet potato. Carrot allergies are one that you can outgrow, so maybe later down the road when she is older we will try again. As allergic reactions go it wasn't a bad one, a runny nose and a reoccurring diaper rash. Got some Baby Aquaphor to mix half and half with diaper rash cream of choice for the rash and crossing our fingers.

Heading to IKEA on Sunday for a high chair, woo!

Happy Autumnal Equinox!

My favorite season!!

I had my stitches taken out this afternoon and I don't have to see the surgeon again, just my primary care doc if I have any surgery related questions, kinda weird to me but I guess the surgeon is just a surgeon and that's all he has to deal with? I don't know how the bureaucracy of medicine works.

Applying for weekend jobs, oof. Hoping something pans out, I can only work Fri-Sun and I think that works in my favor because no one wants those shifts.

The baby got her first tooth and has THREE more coming through. Homeopathic teething drops (chamomile!) have been saving us both.

5 months ago today

5 months ago today Pearl was almost 10 hours old. :)

We have a busy weekend, today and tomorrow are errands, cleaning, and baking. Sunday is my nephew's 4th birthday party. We got Pearl an outfit last night on clearance for $4 to wear, it's really cute. We also bought her Halloween costume! It was the last one in 6-9 months so we had to, right? :) She is going to be a pink unicorn.

I have lost almost 4 pounds since surgery last week, stitches come out on Tuesday. I am doing really well now, learning what foods give me a bit of an issue and had a big surprise that oatmeal is on that list, so strange.

Going for a walk after morning nap. It is nice and crisp feeling out! Pearl looks so cute in her fall jacket.

Inching closer

to fall, my favorite season. My surgery is fast approaching so this week I'm going to try and get as much done as possible. The day of surgery my SIL is taking Pearly and they will have her overnight, my heart hurts thinking about it. The next day my mom is bringing her to me in the morning and staying to help out until Terry is home from class. The day after that my bestie that I grew up with is taking a personal day to be here and help, then next Saturday my dad will be here. We can't afford for Terry to take any time off, but he will obviously be home every second that he can be.

I confess that I haven't been logging lately or weighing myself. After I can eat normally after surgery I will be logging and commiting to it. I need to!

This upcoming weekend Pearl and I will be meeting up with another mother and baby from our online due date group I have been posting in since I found out I was pregnant! Not sure what we'll be doing yet. Depending on the weather, I guess. I can't wait to see the babies interacting. My bestie and her 3 year old came over yesterday, Pearly was in the walker and they were playing together, it was adorable. Pearl has a seagull like shriek that cracks me up.

Happy September, everyone!!

DIY mama

I've been "busy" making baby food purees and freezing them (one ice cube tray block is a serving), but by "busy" I mean I have been spending some time every day either actually making them or compiling lists of foods and recipes by month. When Pearly starts crawling I can make her homemade teething "cookies", way too excited for that. So far I've made sweet potato-apple, acorn squash-apple (which she can't have for a few more weeks, I read wrong), banana-avocado (REALLY good surprisingly), and apple baby oatmeal. Next is peas when I can figure out what to mix with them and peach oatmeal. Starting mid October we can try pumpkin, how perfect is that?

Over the weekend we sorta just hung out. Took Pearl to Toys R Us to just get out and look around (she fell asleep, haha) and ended up getting her some tights for fall and a Halloween sweatsuit. She looks really cute in hoodies, but she looks cute in everything! In other Pearly news she has been practicing sitting and doing awesome so far, she loves my dad like crazy, she is very interested in Calpurnia's (my cat) doings and vice versa, and she will now snuggle into me when I'm holding her and she's tired. She lays her head down on my shoulder and burrows into my neck, it melts me.

My surgery is scheduled for 9/9, I go in for pre-testing on Wednesday which I guess is blood work and all that. Ugh. The good news is I will be able to lift and carry Pearl 3-4 days after surgery, just no lifting other than that for around 6 weeks. I am supposed to be up and walking, so if that goes well we're going to IKEA on the 13th for this

Getting the attachable padding, too. $28 for everything... as compared to $100+ for others. I love you, IKEA. I also started a list of plants that need to move up to bigger pots and I found 6!!! My poor plants.

The universe...

likes me. A few days ago our one and only car started making a horrid noise. We didn't have ANY extra money in the budget and were either going to have to ask my mom for a loan until student loans go through in October or put it on a credit card with a really high interest rate. Both crappy choices. Well-- today there was a sizable lump sum deposited into the checking account with no warning. A dispute with the Texas department of labor was resolved with no notice to us, just surprise money. Earned money, but still surprise money.

Going to the surgeon tomorrow for the gallbladder, bringing the ultrasound films from the hospital so he can review and make his decision. I just want to know either way at this point.

Look what I bought for $8 today, baby biker boots just like mamas.

And I also figured out that I can do this to my poor child's hair...

Jumping Pearly

Ignore the fact that my seriously weird husband put up a comforter over the bedroom curtains (it's been really hot, we have CHEAP windows and he wanted to try and keep the a/c in... it looks so trashy, though!) and check out my little gremlin in her doorway jumper for the first time this evening! I like how when I try and show her it jumps she tries to slap my hand away. And I love that after she does her first jump she gets her head going to try and jump more... totally cracks me up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtrhmoI2ipU

I filled a giant TJ Maxx bag with baby clothes today at the consignment shop's sale for $2. My favorite find is a hand sewn dress that is seriously cute. I can't wait to get her in it and I'm going to ask my friend who is a professional photographer to do some new pictures in it. We had tons of fun swimming and visiting with my mom. On the way home I stopped at an all organic farm stand and picked up some corn, zucchini, cucumbers, and raspberries. Still on the lookout for local organic peaches so I can makes up some baby food for the freezer.
