The snow finally stopped falling during the night and we got about an inch (or 2.5 centimeters. Every twig is coated and the world will look beautiful at sunrise. It's not so beautiful on the ground though. Looks very slippery since the temperature dropped below freezing. It's chilly in here and I just turned up the heat a bit.
I got to the store around 9 am yesterday and picked up enough things to cook something nice today. I bought my yearly pound of reduced sodium bacon and plan to use 2 slices in some chowder today - That's about 1/2 a slice per serving. The rest will be separated and frozen as individual slices to be doled out over months.
I also stopped at the Dollar store and got some big foam snowflakes for my door. We did serve hot chocolate in the Community Room yesterday afternoon. We chatted and watched the snow for an hour. I slept well, without oxygen for the first time in a month.
Plan for Today: Nothing much really. Bill is planning to come out but will call late in the morning for a road check. They never get as much snow in the city as we do, and of course the roads there are cleared more quickly.
Menu for today: Breakfast - Hot oatmeal with currants and milk, nice change from raisins. Lunch - New England clam chowder, cabbage salad. Supper - Cheesey chicken over noodles since I didn't make the tuna casserole yesterday (had a bowl of oatmeal instead) with spinach and carrots. Snacks - grapes, rice cake with peanut butter.
Yesterday afternoon I had some surprise visitors. You remember me telling you about the old friend of my daughter who fixed my car window while I was in the hospital? He called and asked to come and see me with his little girl. They brought me a beautiful white begonia and we had a really nice visit. His mother is retired now and will be in touch. I've known him since he was in high school with my daughter and have always thought the world of him. The two of them never had a romantic relationship and both of them got married to other people and stayed friends. They live near my daughter and son in law and get together frequently. I hadn't seen his little girl since she was 5. She's 8 1/2 now, don't forget the 1/2, and adorable.
Update: 6:45 am - it's getting light out and the snow coated trees look like big fluffy clouds. The evergreens look like a Christmas card. Can't wait for the sun to come up!
Today: Enjoy the view and the company.

SATURDAY'S MENU
Dec 05 2009 15:10
NOTE: I didn't log or menu plan yesterday (Friday) because I knew we were going out to dinner. At the restaurant, my wonderful DH and I split 2 entrees: steak salad and grilled swordfish with potatoes and veggies. I know I did fine, carbwise, because my blood sugar was low later in the evening so I got to have 25 carbs of toast. Anyway, we've decided that it's ok for me to not stress over trying to log on days when we plan to eat out, so that's why there's no menu from Friday.

Why . . . . Just because

Its part of the illness I have. I just want to sleep and sleep I did. I got up about 12;45 today and then ate some chips and salsa and laid back down. I got up an hour later and ate 8 chicken wings. Not healthy at all. then I just had half a pack of sweet and salty trail mix.
I feel bloated and ashamed of myself for the lack of control in my eating areana today. Nothing I can do about it is just know it is consumed and it is what it is. A binge or mood eating. With sleeping in late today I do got to say I was up at 8;00 and had cheese and crackers for breakfast. The blood sugars were good. I need to go now because I have some things I want to do right now while I am up to it.So much for the blood sugars being good. It went up to 272 after 8 3 hours after 8 chicken wings. That was all I had. Tired of yo-yo diet and yo-yo sugars. It was suggested to me to get the pump. I wasn't sure I could give myself injections, and I do. Amazing how you can do things once you are forced into it. But the pump seems cumbersome to me. We'll have to see, I might consider looking into it. Very very hestitant about getting one.
The store had turkey breast on sale today for .99 cents a pound. So I bought a six pounder. Guess what we are having tomorrow? Turkey and dumplings, and also turkey and stuffing. This is before my son goes back to college in the evening. There are so many things that need to be done before Christmas and I doubt it will get done. Just have motivation and depression issues. Not sure how to get over it either. I just know that I have got to get control of it or it is going to control me as it has been for many many years. Practically since I can remember. Oh well. . . Enough said of that.
Take care and know this is only until things align itself again when I get to feeling like myself. We ought to play a lottery game about this. . . . when will heavenly feel herself again?
God Bless.
Saturday - waiting for snow

Art of the season - American Impressionist, George Gardner Symons. Symons was one of the California Impressionists but a lot of his paintings look like Pennsylvania.

The First Snowfall ~ George Gardner Symons, 1920
All's quiet at Trinity House. Yesterday was a do nothing day. The visiting nurse was here and I'm almost back to where I was before going in the hospital. Nearly all the water weight is off and my waistline has shrunk an inch. Being bloated is no fun.
Plan for the day: Make a very early run to the store for milk, hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. We'll be serving hot chocolate in the community room - a little Trinity House tradition on snowy days.
Menu for today: breakfast - a low fat blueberry scone, juice. Lunch - some kind of soup (I'll just throw something together), salad. Supper - Tuna noodle casserole made my low fat low salt way, with peas and a salad. Snacks - another scone! apples.
Of course, everyone is watching the weather report. The snow is supposed to start this afternoon and continue all day. We should get at least an inch (2.54 cm). The weather pattern is what we call a Nor'easter because the wind is coming off the Atlantic and pulling moisture up from the south. Sometimes these storms can be really bad. This time it looks like a high will blow in and keep it in check. Let's hope so. The grocery store will be crowded with people who act as if they are preparing for a blizzard.
Today: Watch the pretty snow from the window.
About my activities

Yesterday was spent in the doctors office for the diagnosis for the back. Today was spent first thing at the chiropractors office for treatment. I am not suppose to do alot of walking for a few days. This new machine he used on me releases the nerve endings from being all balled up. Essentially, by doing that I felt immediate relief. I still can't believe that my back was the problem. But oh, well.
Just got back from the gym. Did you know that back problems can wrec havoc on your intestines and stomache. Well, trust me it does and the doctor confirmed. Worse gas I've ever had the discomfort of releasing and being around. Phew wee! Anyhow, the more I exercised the more it came out. I just quit. I lasted 15 minutes.
Not good eating today. I feel full from the meals I've had today. First, I had a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, for lunch I had a taco and bean burrito from Taco Bell, and for dinner, haven't had it yet but I did have a protein shake
Take care and God Bless.
'Tis the season for celebrations!!!
Dec 04 2009 15:31
Christmas Parade tonight and dear daughter is in it. The weather is cold and crisp but we can dress for it.
Celebrating daughter's 10 th Birthday on Saturday (her birthday is actually the 6th)
Celebrating son's 17th Birthday on Sunday (his birthday is actually the 8th)
So needless to say - I don't think eating will be very good this weekend.
Have a great weekend and stay warm!!
Today is?

Stuff is happening. Daughter stuff: she has found a cell phone system that gets her even long distance service for 35.00 a month. Says it works only in big cities. And most important of all, a data center has hired her. Oh whoo. And the lady who talked them into moving first to Nevada finally has come through with the money she owed daughter- and some of that check got eaten by the bank for fees. The data center job starts at the end of Dec. so daughter is checking out Temp Services. She continues to camp in a Nice Person's back yard. She continues to go to the food bank. We continue paying for her car and probably will make another payment cause she'll need time to get onto her feet. At least she is doing all she can to not sponge off us. We will work with her once we see that she is trying to be honorable. Its just that Shit Happens and it sure did for her. Can't believe how close we are to getting this humble house paid off. House needs work but its not a total shack, either. That one insurance company made me think more about what has been niggling at me- get the wiring updated?? How in the world do folks finance a huge project like that?! I wonder if the workman would have to go through the ceilings, like looking for and replacing thread- basically gut the joint- dollar signs are cachinging in front of my eyeballs. Got to replace the pitiful bottom kitchen cabinets and probably the fine vintage double sink- have gutted and replaced the top cabinets already- glass doors cause I am a glass monster. This Spring we'll for sure hire somebody to replace the NAG window with the garden window. Going to be some retrofitting there. And get the last bit of wooden fence up in the Way Back- I want my privacy. NOW. Greedy me. Poor hubby is not well. He stayed home yesterday. Went back to work today though he sounds kind of froggy. The State is laying off workers and cutting back etc. So far hubby continues to work- the social worker staff is about as lean as lean can get. What would a welfare office be without social workers? Hubby sure sounds meaner on the phone when he calls in to check with folks on business- such a hard job, being the messenger plus weeding out those who want a free ride and lots of dough to go with it. Hearty not fancy supper last night. Hot soup. Frigid outside. Garbanzo beans, cauli, broccoli, chicken buillion, leftover rice. Turkey bacon. Cheesy grainy toast. Today is my day. Per usual I need a nap first thing. I woke every hour and a half or so last night- not for long, just enough to check out the time but enough to disrupt my sleep. I really really need to drive over to the recycling place and dump newspapers and glass- get the car trunk cleaned out. Need to do some laundry. Exciting chores. Need cat litter from the feed store. Well, the Pup's three month supply of pain/inflammation pills are almost gone. Gone to order those today. Wow. Three months. She acts about the same- a nasty feeling is sneaking in- she probably will be With It when her legs totally give up and I'll have to play God anyway. Total awful. I can only hope that she is not suffering now due to my ego. She is snoring on her rugs now. Whatever happens, I will be with her the whole way. She's been a good dog. She deserves all the humanity she can get.
worst muffins ever :)

Made the worst blueberry/bananna muffins last night.
It was an odd yee haw moment. I knew when I started I shouldn't do it. The whole time I was working on them I was cussing myself out for being a wuss. Substituted ingredients, hosed the process and then decided to add bananas and, of all things, mace, at the last minute. I actually laughed out loud when I tasted one.
Fortunately all the ingredients were things I had in the house - and those bananas had to go anyway. So it was actually liberating to throw the entire dozen into the trash.
Yee haw.
