The holidays where good to me

Or is it that I was good to myself? I lost weight over the holiday break and that's just not supposed to happen, but it did.

I'll take it as a sign of things to come this new year. :)

Stuck

It seems that this is the weight where I get stuck (218) even though my diet is pretty good and my activity level is also good. This is where I have to crank up the intensity to break out of this rut.

Today I will be riding my bike home. I have felt pretty good the last couple of times I've riden and think that I'm ready to up the intensity there. Ussually my average speed is about 14mph, but my last outing it was 16.18. It may not seem like much but the difference in effort is significant. How the pros finish 160 mile races with an average of 35mph is completely beyond me.

Six month challenge

Well, it's almost one month since my wife and I started our personal six month challenge. Nov 15 is our first monthly weigh-in. So far I've droped over five pounds, but to stay on track I would have to have dropped about eight. It doesn't look like I will be there, but I'm headed in the right direction. Plus, this have been a tough month with getting sick then injured. It's a miracle I lost anything at all.

Speed bumps

Life has a funny way of putting speed bumps on your path to your goals, but that's no reason to get discouraged. I find that I become more motivated to overcome that obstacle and continue on my path. I actually have more trouble with making visible gains. That's when I get complacent and start to slip.

Anyway, after dealing with being sick and injury, I'm back in the saddle and doing well.

Starting over

I couldn't tell you exactly what happened. I got sick, then injured, then injured again. In my frustration I ate and ate like I have for so many years. I stopped logging my food and progress (or regress as it may be). All of this basically nullified any and all gains I had made this year. Ten months down the drain over a few weeks time. It's depressing.

On a positive note, my wife has really been making an effort to go to the gym every night after the kids are in bed. It's inspiring. Starting tomorrow we will begin a pretty ambitious route to fitness and health. We will start taking turns riding to work on our bikes. I will ride in to work in the morning and she will ride home in the evening. I've done it before so it should not be a big deal for me. She has not yet ridden this far, but I know she can do it.

Back on track

It's easy to get sidetracked especially when life gets hectic. We have had non-stop activity off one type or another at home for the past three weeks and it's been murder on our fitness schedule.

Finally we are back to a normal schedule and we are back on track. Karina is going to the gym again. I'm very proud of her for that. I'm going to the gym and riding again. Yesterday I ran two and a half miles on the treadmill. I did not think I would be able to, but I did.

Progress has been slow but steady. I have turned up my efforts by adding a home cummute on my bike three days a week. With the added 90 minutes of hard riding my weight has really started to drop. I finaly broke 210.
