I'm really liking how my arms are starting to look.  I missed one day of the gym this week due to a cold/severe allergies.  I'm going to try making it up by doing some exercises at home, and not just relying on the gym classes that I go to twice a week.  I missed yoga this week too.

I donated blood on Monday, and now I'm paranoid that because I was sickly thrusday, they won't be able to use it, but we'll see.

I'm doing somewhat better in the last few weeks about eating less meat than I used to be. I had a couple of days this past week that were completely or mostly vegetarian.  I'm trying to limit myself to meat no more than once a day if it's unfeasible to do without it completely.  I had a few slices of roast beef this morning for breakfast, so no more meat the rest of the day : ).  I'm going to have a tofu taco salad (no shell, cheese or sour cream) for lunch, and I don't know what for dinner, but it shall be meatless.  A few nights ago I made a vegetarian quesadilla with just light cheese, fresh chopped tomatoes, frozen spinach, lightly carmelized onions and peppers and salsa on whole wheat toritialls - it was very very good, and I'd rather have a pile of veggies than any amount of meat, but sometimes the options just don't allow it.

Restaurants really don't give a lot of options for meat -free, other than 'I want this, but no chicken', but then they charge you full price anyway, and there's not enough food left for it to be a complete meal, most times, not all times.

Sigh.

I'm getting there.  I may never be vegan, but I really do want to consume much less meat, and try to get it down to none, but just reducing my meat intake to 4 servings (normal servings, not 'american' serviings) will make me feel better about how and what i eat : )

Entry WEIGHT!!!!!
Apr 17 2009 08:40

I'm not posting in the forums on purpose.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!! !

Why won't the scale budge?? I've been doing weight lifting classes and yoga 1-2 times a week, and I haven't lost weight.  I still have middle bumps, even if the rest of my body looks better.

I know I shouldn't be frustrated.. I do know this.  I'm going to brave the body fat percentage scale before the next class on tuesday, just to see about where I am.

My arms look better

My butt looks better

My legs look better

I've lost a pant size, for certain.

Why can't I be satisfied even if the scale doesn't move?

I guess it's time to try to cut carbs down to 150 a day..

Boring workout update: The week I didn't work out, I lost 1.5 lbs.  I'm hoping this was simple fat/weight loss without muscle building and not just lean tissue loss - just 1 week off, it's not likely, I know.  Coming back yesterday, I went with my usual weights, but made it all the way through triceps without dumping the floating extra weight.  Had to dump it near the end of biceps though.. After starting, I felt like I probably actually could have upped my warm up weight to 20 lbs on the bar, but it's a warm up, so I don't want to overdo it.. Thursday I may hang extra weights on the bar and dump them for the warm up lunges.  My form is getting better, my squats deeper (I am sooooooore this morning) and my clean and presses are more controlled.  I feel more like I'm actually pushing and pulling weights around rather than using momentum to lift or drop - my lunges are still the worst though.. .  A new guy and girl showed up for the class last night.  I don't know if they were dating or brother and sister, but the guy put way too much weight on his bar and the instructor kept picking on him, in a fun way.

My extra zucchini and cucumber plants that sprouted all have new homes.  I really didn't expect all 18 seeds of each type  to come up, and healthy, so I divided the spouted plants into two containers, and separated 2 packs of 9 each into 3 packs of 3 and put them out on a table in the breakroom at work, with labels : )

They've all been claimed and now I don't have to throw any out! yay.

I still have 9 of each at home for ourselves, which should still be way more than we need.

About, oh, a month ago, I decided to give up diet soda altogether.  If I drink anything, ti's going to be cofee, tea, water, fruit juice or alcohol - but not much of the last anyway.  I have this box still of flavored water/0 calories additives, and I've been slowly phasing them out.  Since giving up diet sodas, I noticed that I felt funny after drinking water with the flavorings, and I use a pack per 24 oz bottle of water, not 12-16 oz., so those will go away too.

Last weekend at D&D dragons, one of the players broke out his diet coke or diet pepsi, I forget which, and shared around.  I was getting bored of my plain water, so I had a glass of diet soda.  It tasted.. ..well, bad.. unpleasant.  I figured it was my imagination, and later got a refill. Still, off.  And this was a fresh bottle, newly purchased from the store, not dispensed at a place where it might have been watered down or had flat syrup..

So, apparently I'm off the diet soda kick altogether.  I have no desire for it anymore, and now it doesn't even taste good to me at all.  Yes, I used to really like diet soda, I really did.  I now have the occasional half-glass of regular ginger ale, but I won't start the habit of drinking large amounts of normal soda either, mostly because I can't afford the daily calories.  Even with not drinking full sugar soda, I get upwards of 230 grams of carbs a day.

It makes me kinda wonder what people drank before they became obsessed with sweet tasting drinks.  What would we drink if not something sugar laden? Well, we used to dink a lot more beer, which wasn't really all that sweet, and tea, unsweetened because only the rich could afford refined sugar.  or coffee.  So, water, tea, beer and spirits.  I'm not, by any means, saying it was better, it's just interesting to me.  Now everything we drink is sweet.  When was the last itme you drank something that didn't have sugar or sweetener in it?  What would we drink if not something sweetened or sweet tasting?

Entry happy new year!
Jan 23 2009 09:28

Well, I have overall good news.  I don't post much here, but here's a quick note.

I donated blood 4 or 5 times last year = I lost exact count but it was either 4 or 5, 1-2 short of my goal of six times in a year.  I have maintained my weight, but not lost.  I kept going to yoga.

The past month, I've gone consistently once a week to weight lifting class before yoga.

It.. is.. AWESOME!. I love it.  I wish I'd started doing it a couple of years ago, but I have found it now, and feel wonderful.  After 4 classes, I can't say I really have noticed a huge difference in my shape, but I wore a little black sleeveless dress to the company holiday party, and I was able to look at my upper arms without dying a little inside.  Plus, I got a couple widened eyes and raised eyebrows from my co-workers, which was also great :D.

I started going to an alternate yoga class/instructor, and she is helping me improve my form by leaps and bounds.  I've noticed a distinct difference now in my movements and how I make use of the yoga class.  This is going to sound completely weird, but my hips feel looser, as if they were locked in place for years and I simply never noticed.  The new instructor makes a point to think about tiping the hip foward and back, depending on the pose, which my other instructer never once mentioned - it made a world of difference.. kind of bizarre, really, but I'm not going to argue.  I did a nearly full shoulder stand last night too :D

Life-wise anyway.  Not so much food wise.  I did get a happy comment at my eye doctors the other day : ).  There's one particular lady that works at the counter whom i know by sight and hadn't seen since my last apt, in more than a year.  She commented that I looked like I'd lost weight : ).  I smiled and said I had and thanked her and we chatted.  She's very sweet.. I wasn't THAT overweight before, but it was very sweet of her to notice and say something.

I picked up some new fabric last night and I'm going to make a cute summer dress with a sash or tie.

Ugh.. Stupid mexican food.  I ate a lot of salsa and only ate half my dinner and took it home for lunch today.. CC says that mole sauce has 437 calories per cup of sauce.. OMG.. I could eat nearly half a pint of ben & jerries!  Sigh..

154.5 on the home scale!! whee! AFTER eating dinner and putting the weight in my tummy (weight, not calories, I know)

So last night I made fish and chips.  The fish was beer-battered and cooked in canola oil, and I made baked fries - 160 calories for 8 waffle cut fries.  they were SOOOOO delicious.. omg.  The other half of my plate was steamed broccoli and a salad of cucumbers and tomatoes in balsamic vinegar - very filling, and I kept my cals at 1500 for the day.  I even let myself have 4 oz of ginger ale.  It tasted absolutely amazing.. but I kept from drinking more.  Also drank the remaining 4 oz of beer not used in the beer batter ; ).

Need to pick up a yoga DVD, but I don't know if I can do that this week or not.

156 at my doctor's office.  Haven't tested the home scale yet, but that's good for a doctor's scale.

Went to bday dinner for my brother last night at Amedeo's = Italian (ahhhhh!)

I did good for eating there - small greek salad, 1 piece of that table bread, 2 of mom's meat raviolis (not that great), just one slice of thin crust pizza, but with a ton of toppings.  I ended up removing a large part of the cheese on the pizza and pushing it off the side - not somthing I normally do.  Also had a piece of cake, light frosting.
