Are you there wagon? It's me, Sarah.

Well that was a fun little trip off the wagon. I have to be completely honest here - I have been on a low-calorie diet since October without losing any weight. I am really starting to get frustrated.

I am so, so happy to have lost 25 lbs. by counting calories, but I would like to lose the last 20 lbs. to get back to a healthy weight.

So, in some sort of trilogy of frustration, laziness and lack of healthy food options, I had a complete binge weekend.

Talking to my mom on Sunday night about my frustrations, we decided that I should go see a doctor to have my thyroid tested and see if there was anything that could be preventing me from losing weight.

And of course, I'm back on the wagon and back to exercising. And while I really don't want anything to be wrong with me, it would be a satisfying explanation of why I'm not getting out of my body what I'm putting into it.

Nothing

That's what I have to report!

I "fasted" for 24 hours Sunday and Monday because my stomach problems got worse and I was spending a lot of time sprinting to the bathroom. Also, I am off the Alli for the same reason.

I actually gained a pound this weekend - although I'm hoping it's sodium and that it will go away.

Eating is still good - keeping it to about 1300 calories a day and more on the weekends (more like 1500).

Buuuuut . . . I have a feeling that I'm not losing any more because I'm not exercising as much as I should be. I was doing pretty awesome there for a while but once I started my teaching clinical all my free time got sucked into writing lesson plans and grading papers. My clinical is over in three weeks and it's like a paperwork nightmare right now. But I really really reallyreallyreally intend to get back to the exercise once the clinical is finished.

So hold me to that!

Still Hovering

At 179.0

My kingdom for a .2 lb. loss!

Okay, I don't HAVE a kingdom. But seriously it's Friday, my usual cheat day, and I would feel a lot better if I saw 178.something before I have a 48 hour sodium-induced weight gain.

Upset Stomach (a little graphic)

It may be related to the icky flu, but since Monday I have had a terribly upset stomach. Especially in the afternoon I have to spend an embarassing amount of time in the bathroom.

I am taking Alli, but I really don't think it's related. Alli trips have their own unique characteristics and this is just more like really awful diarrhea.

One of the BEST things about starting this healthy eating last year was that almost immediately my cranky stomach started feeling better. My body seemed to get more, ahem, regular with healthy food. I think my eating has been really clean lately, with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I do eat Healthy Choice soup for lunch and 100 calorie packs, so I still have some processed foods in my diet. Overall though, I can't imagine what would be causing this problem.

It's really unpleasant and crampy and normally I would just say I should eat healthier, but at this point I'm not sure what to do.

On a side note: I think I will dip down to 178 this week, and I'm REALLY excited.

Maintaining A Loss

When I was sick I dropped just over 5 lbs. and now that I am starting to feel better I'm trying to maintain that loss, and am actually having a surprisingly easy time. I think I was ready for that loss.

Even though I know that too big of a deficit is not good for me, I really find that I experience more weight loss at around 1300 calories a day, as opposed to 1400. It's not a significant change in the amount of food I eat, but somehow it translates to a big change on the scale.

I also have a suspicion that I have mentioned before that I am underestimating the calories in things I do not specifically weigh or measure, and since Joel has been preparing all the meals lately I think that I am probably eating closer to 1400 or 1450 even though I am only counting 1300.

Either way I am sitting pretty at 179 which is where I wanted to be right now. However this has been my plateau point before so I'm really looking forward to that next pound. I am still not healthy enough to exercise, but I am hoping to get back to that this weekend.

And as a reiteration of my previous thoughts - do NOT get sick. I hear that this flu is moving from the west coast to the east coast and it is MISERABLE. I have been sick for two weeks at this point and am still up all night coughing. Maybe that's a good abs workout?

THE FLU

And believe me, it deserves ALL the capital letters that I have given it. I drove in to Des Moines on Wednesday night with eight wedding appointments and my shower lined up for this weekend. Thursday morning I woke up with a fever of 101 and that achey yucky feeling.

I still went to all appointments and my shower, but my fever never dropped and I quickly lost my voice and had the most painful sore throat I have ever had in my life. Today it has finally progressed to a fun sinus congestions with coughing and sneezing fit type of deal. Still with a sore throat. Still with a fever.

I called in sick to work today and we're going to attempt to drive back. I am just going to take some NyQuil and hope to sleep the whole way.

The bonus side effect (if you can call it that) is that I have no appetite and no energy to eat anything. I have lost probably 4 lbs. since Thursday. And I was technically at 180 lbs. for the shower. But I would have rather spent 40 hours in the gym then have to deal with this flu.

I am going to the doctor today, but I'm pretty sure I caught it from someone at work. And I talked to him and he says I can expect the symptoms to last for TEN DAYS. Today (Monday) will be day five. So I may not be around much this week, but don't be concerned I've fallen off the wagon - I'm just sleeping.

5 Days Until Shower

There are 5 days until my first bridal shower and I have definitely not lost the 5 lbs. I was dreaming about losing, or even the 3 lbs. I thought I could realistically lose. I have still lost just 1 lb.

Eating has been good, Alli has been good and exercising has been so-so. Now that Joel is home during the days and things around the house are getting done, I think it will clear up some time to work out in the evenings. I play to do an hour in the gym tonight, but then we leave for Iowa tomorrow so I'll have to make that hour count.

I'm feeling frustrated today, but that's not news anymore.

Portion Problem

So I think some of the issues I'm having with not losing weight is that I am not being completely honest about myself with portions. We were at Sam's Club today (trying to save money on groceries) and when I got home I was portioning out single servings of pasta, meat, cheese, snacks, etc. and I realized that when I was entering some of my recipes on CC I was totally undermeasuring the amount of food I was eating. One of my favorite pasta dishes I have listed at 3/4 cup of pasta and I'm actually eating 2+ cups.

I typically measure the recipes the first time I make them and then eyeball them after that. Obviously my portions have gotten larger and larger over some period of time - with the result being over 200 extra calories when I make that dish. Not life and death, but it will certainly add up. And that's probably not the only thing I am overestimating.

So it's back to regular use of the food scale from now on. Hopefully that will relate to some change on the actual scale. Pleasepleaseplease.

Actually Worked Out

So I fulfilled my promise to myself that I made yesterday and I actually worked out tonight. I think this is a pretty deal since I started TTOM today.

My eating was actually not all that great and I hit almost 1600 calories but the work out made up for it :)

Going to watch The Office and go to bed now.
