Catching Up

I have not written in ages, but I am still on my journey to try to lose weight. It has not been easy, that is for sure! I am now 235 pounds, which means I have lost 23 pounds. About a quarter of where I want to be at the end of this long road. I have acutally been drinking SlimFast the last few weeks. And I am drinking a protien shake after my big workouts. And I eat protien bars for snacks. I am losing a pound a week, slow, but I will take it!

When I was 258 my BMI was 40.4. Today my BMI is 36.8. A BMI of 30 or > is considered obese. I have to be 191 to be considered overweight. My first goal is 200 pounds. But I have a mini goal of to lose 25 pounds by my husband's birthday and that is next Monday. SOO hoping I can get there!!

A good week

I don't feel like writing much, I am really sick with a nasty cold. This cough is horendous. I came down with this yesterday and it hit me hard.

I haven't been to the gym in several days....I hurt my toe last Thursday, I think I broke it. Then last night the entire nail ripped off. GROSS and PAINFUL. So, needless to say, I have not been able to work out. I have been trying really hard to watch my sugar intake, carbs and keeping my calorie intake at 1800-1900.

I think it might be working...I lost 4 pounds. :)

Saw the Nutritionist!

I am feeling so pumped!! I feel like I could take on the world right now! LOL!

I met with the Nutritionist this morning. It was a really good appointment. I have been looking forward to seeing a nutritionist for months. I brought with me my huge folder with food and exercise logs from Jan. She (Karen) was very impressed with my logs, my dedication and determination at losing weight.

At one point she asked me how much OJ I drink in the morning and lifted up 2 different glasses (just like kid's toy food stuff). I didn't need to point to the glass, I quickly said "I drink 1 cup of OJ" and she said, how do you know, and I proudly said "I measure EVERYTHING!" And I do measure it ALL.

I used to aim at 1800 cal a day, but when the weight wasn't coming off, and because I exercise so much, I had increased to 2000-2200 cals. Which is really hard for me to get that much. Since Jan, I have only lost 11 pounds so she is guessing that since I follow a tough exercise program and log my food, I have a really slow metabolism. I already know that!

We went over food labels and what I look at. Basically I have never paid any attention to the grams of sugar in a food. She thinks this could be a problem for me. So, I learned lots about that. Along with the sugars, she wants me to decrease my carbs.

I am going to change my breakfast so that instead of a bowl of cereal (high in sugar...they ALL are freaking high!) and a glass of OJ (again..high sugar) to do eggs, whole weat toast with peanut butter and a piece of fruit. I am game to try anything! Obviously the cereal is quick and easy, but I'll do what I have to do.

She wants me to eat more nuts, and different snacks instead of pretzels, salsa and chips, etc. I always go for an oz of pretzels because it is a low cal/fat snack. But, there is no nutritional value in them, and they are carbs. I don't snack a lot, but definitley no eating unless it is veggies, after 8pm.

The biggest thing is the exercise. She wants me to drastically reduce my time in the gym. I am going to have such a hard time with this one. Instead of working out for 3 hours a day she wants 1 hour!! Well, originally she said 45 minutes...but we compromied for 60 min! ONE HOUR!! I asked her why I couldn't continue to work out for 3+ hours and then just increase my cals!!! I so tried to let her keep me in the gym, but she wasn't budging! If I work-out and burn 1800 cals, I would need to eat a lot (she woudn' give me a number cuz I know she was afraid I would just do that!) and I would probably not eat the right things...I would end up eating too many sugars and carbs. 60 min at the gym and 1800-1900 cal.

So.....we shall see!! I go back in to see her in 3 weeks. HOPING that by following this plan I will see results.

After the appointment I had another appt with my regular doctor to discuss some med changes (!!) and get my flu shot. Oh! And I am off my migrane/headache medicine!!! It wasn't working, so instead of putting me on yet one more med, last week I started taking Clairtin every day and it has helped remarkably! I am a new woman!! My doctor said I was inspirng HER to eat better and work-out!!!

I also had an appointment with a trainer and the gym to go over some new free weight machines.

Sorry so long!! A busy day, but a GRRRRREAT DAY!! It was all good.

15:56!!!!

Yesterday I beat my latest time for swimming laps, which was 17:09. I did them in less than 16 minutes!! In addition to that I added 2 extra laps!! So, I did 22 laps in 17 minutes and 33 seconds!! The first time I did laps less than a month ago, it took me 30 minutes to do 20 and I have well surpassed that!!!! :)

The cool thing is that I was not trying to go fast....just get the laps done. I was s.h.o.c.k.e.d when I looked at the clock!! Just imgaine how fast I might be able to go when I really push myself! I had done the cross trainer (elyptical) before swimming so I was so tired, and had to just push myself to not stop and the walls, to breathe, to kick, etc. I didn't think I could do it but I just wanted to get my 20 laps in. It is getting so much easier than that first time I swam! I have to do 35 laps the triathalon which seems so much more do-able now!!!

Trying to get the hang of this

I officailly started inputing my food and exercise on this site today. I had been keeing paper journals, but think I will like it online. I just got done putting in everything and I had great day...I think!! I had about 1800 cals, well below what I burned, so that's good, right?! I don't think I have to eat to that "dotted line".

I saw Dr. P today to get the stitches removed. We talked about my issues with working out so much, food journling and still not losin weight. She was very impressed with my dedication and committment. She gave me some recomendations for a nutritionist so I am going to call about that tomorrow. I m very excited about getting some more help.

I did a kick butt work-out today at the gym!! The best part was that I did the 20 laps in 20 min!!!! And I never stopped....well long enough to turn, but that was it. I didn't have to stop for a minute at the end of each lap and catch my breath. I was so in groove! It was actually going smooth. It felt good!

Need to find some answers

I have 105 more pounds to go. I have been struggling!! I have been journaling my intake and exercising HARD 5 days a week since Jan and ony lost 10 pounds. I take a lot of meds for a bad back, and I know they all cause weight gain. I actually love to exercise so that is not a problem. I just need to figure out why I can't lose. So, I am going to see a nutrutionist to hopefully get some answers.

I am going to do it!!!!!!!

I am going to do a TRIATHALON!!!! bugeyes I am sooooo excited! It isn't until Sept. 2009, so I have lots of time to train.

My friend Christine is going to do it to!!!! We are going to train together. :D

It is a 1/2 mile swim.......13 mile bike ride......run 3.1 miles

Crazy huh?!?!! I have been doing laps for a month now and can do 20 laps. I need to do 33 for 1/2 mile. The bike ride won't be a biggie for me (except for the hills!) but the run I was worried about. I have never been able to run...EVER! But I don't have to run it, I can walk it!!!!

I am sooo excited!! I have always wanted to do something like this, but never did because of the run (my back) but since I can walk it.......

I am GOING TO DO IT!!!!!! :jump:
