I used this a lot last year in college, but couldn't seem to pinpoint why I couldn't keep the weight off. So I decided to just go ahead and enjoy myself, eat what I want to eat, etc. I learned a lot about portion sizes and what to absolutely avoid last year, so I tried to make some healthy choices.
I went home for the summer to my parents' house, and ate their food. Mostly pasta and Boca Burgers. My dad can't have vitamin K because he takes blood thinners for his mechanical heart valve, so they don't buy a lot of fruits and veggies. But we went to McDonald's a lot, and I'd always get a salad (mainly because it's the only thing I can eat there, as a lacto-ovo vegetarian).
I moved to Portland for my second year of college, and live in my own apartment. I make my own food and try to avoid going out to eat. When I do, I always try to split the portion in two. My pants fit better than they did earlier this summer, but some that I bought before college last year still don't fit.
I was afraid to weigh myself to get this started, but I weighed myself just now (it's currently 9:55 at night) and it's 200.2! Wow. Last year it would have taken a lot of work to get down to 200. It makes me excited to see what it will be in the morning (since I fluctuate between 2 and 5 pounds heavier at night).
It will be really exciting and a huge boost to my confidence to be under 200 pounds again, and keep it there.
I have noticed that I seem to be more muscular vs. blobby and fat like I was last year. There is less noticeable fat around my tummy, and my clothes don't leave lines like they used to. It's probably because of the dorm food I was eating. Lots of salt. I knew I was retaining water, but nobody believed me. I still get some lines, but they don't hurt for long periods of time afterwards or itch or feel wet like they used to. That was pretty gross!
I love Portland, I just need some accountability to start walking again and really enjoying the town. When I first moved here I would go for a two mile walk every other day...I need to do that more. Maybe walk to work instead of taking the Max for just two stops.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
