Had a fun but, for me, a higher than normal calorie dinner last night! We made an experimental "burger" by mashing hot Italian sausage (out of the casing) with Romano and Parmesan cheeses and making good sized patties to be cooked out on the grill which made for an excellent crispy exterior. Melted some provolone on top and served the thing on a ciabatta bun with red onion and a touch of steak sauce (I did not think of making a marinara as a topper til it was already dinner). I ate the whole thing! Yum. Made a simple tomato/cuke/onion/fresh basil marinated salad and some garlic oven fries for sides.
This morning finds my meat taste buds still thoroughly satisfied. So, I'll likely make a white bean arugula soup for dinner. There's left over "burgers" so the SU and Daughter will probably have one with their soup.
I burned more calories than normal yesterday as I began a major major clean up in the kitchen. Too many freakin' things to be majored upon so I still have some to do today.
Am going to have to consider each room as I perform my spring cleaning - ok, I am a tad late with that and yes, it is the spring cleaning that was due about five years ago, but at least I am making an effort. Will have to look at everything and decide if we really want/need that or if it is just a dirt/dust collecting thing that should be pitched/moved to a garage sale box.
Of course, books must remain (I arrange culinary mysteries with my assorted kitchen odds and ends - Death by Darjeeling makes a nice picture sitting under a Victorian tea cup). Maybe a few other things can stay with them, but much of the rest has got to go. I really do love that pretty Japanese tea pot and cups so I have to keep that...and I enjoy the really dusty white English tea pot too...do I really need all those kitchen gadgets and mini appliances?...yes...and those wine carting boxes will be handy one day... that pile of magazines have recipes I simply have to make so I'd best keep them and one day cut the recipes out and file them in a handy dandy place so they don't need to be dusted...it really is a good idea to keep some extra grocery bags as they often come in handy...I am determined to figure out what this screw came off of so it can be put back on... where do these old keys come from anyway?...love that old tin of tea with Sherlock Holmes' silhouette...the SU says he likes those empty oil and wine bottles so can't pitch those... drat...wait! Found something in the cabinet beneath the stove! Moldy sprouted potatoes! I can pitch that at least. Now my kitchen is clean and lean!
Last night's dinner sounds wonderful...and so does the white bean arugula soup!! Don't you just love days like this? What's the weather like - and what are you listening to? Happy Sunday! |
dreary humid weather. Not cool enough to keep the windows open and not warm enough for the ac. So I am listening to my Daughter bicker with the SU - she is anti-humidity and he is good fresh air. I am anti-humidity and anti good fresh air, but am staying uninvolved in the conversation as I am used to tolerating the yucky good fresh humid pollen mold spore fresh air every fall and spring. They appear to have reached a conclusion as I hear the Daughter laughing, so I'll go down stairs and select some music. Not sure what. I am feeling rather odd today, just a mental funk. What do you suggest to remove a good funk? Chieftains? or Drop Kick Murphy? |
Okay, so it's one of THOSE days. I guess, if it were me, I'd choose a room where I could not see out of the windows; turn on all the lights; and crank Battlefield Band (thank you for that, by the way!) ... I'm going to the couch. |
I am so glad you like Battlefield! My next cd will be Alasdair White's An Clar Geal...in fact, this looks like perfect ordering a cd on line weather, so I'll order it as soon as I finish my broccoli pie! I have the white bean arugula soup in it's basic form in my recipes. Sometimes other things are added. Today is also perfect celery weather so I am going to add some of that. What have you been up to lately? |
Broccoli pie? Hmmm... I haven't looked at recipes lately - or really too much of anything here because I've been so short of time. We aren't talking about the white bean chili recipe, right? I've been mostly working, MIL, and now the flu. I have been knitting and doing a bit of sewing in my "spare" time! Visited my daughter and her family for a few days in early October. They'll be in for Thanksgiving, and so I'll have all children, grandchildren, spouses for dinner. Yea!! Is work any better? Sorry I haven't been much of a cheerleader lately; by the time I got to reading the entries it was days or weeks later.

Dinner sounds delicious, I am very jealous! |
The white bean arugula soup sounds yummy, and I must admit, so does the experimental burger! Spring cleaning is long overdue in my house too. I like the idea of collecting odds and ends and displaying them with the books in a quirky way! |
here's the link to the soup: http://caloriecount.about.com/jannids-white-bean-arugula-sou p-recipe-r260996 it a very simple dish. Lots of books lend themselves to groupings. Murder on a Bad Hair Day is, of course, in a bathroom with The Stepford Wives etc. |
Your burgers sound delish! They reminded me of a paula deen recipe I want to try: you cook your burgers, but not all the way through. Place 1 burger with one slice of cheese on a square of puff pastry and wrap it up, then all you do is bake it till the pastry is brown. *drool* Hope you had a nice weekend! |
Wow, your burgers sounds so good I think my mouth watered a bit just reading the description! I love hot italian sausage. I use it to make nachos. I brown it with some onions and jalapenos and then take nachos and layer them with the meat and cheese and pop it in the oven to bake until the cheese is melted and dip in salsa when finished. Yummy, that just made me really crave some nachos. Apparently I am very hungry this morning even though I started off with a blueberry bagel. |
