3 months off turned into tuning out

Back again, and again, and well you get the idea...

Haven't been this fat in 2 years but I got myself here and I'll get myself out of it.

I'm back into some training, ran the 10km sun run and then gave up AGAIN, joined the local tri club and ran a prediction 5km then gave up AGAIN, joined a hash hound harriers running group and hired a trainer, gave up AGAIN.....hahaha BUT I missed that one so I'm back running, biking and hopefully racing in July.

I'm embarrassed to say that I weighed in at 196pds today, an all time high (I mean low) up from 176 only 6 months or so ago. So I'm back to counting, breathing, exercising and taking it ONE DAY at a time. Today was day 3, still feeling in control of food instead of it controlling me, so a good day.

3 months is UP!!!

I'm baacccccckkkkkk!

It's been 3 months and I'm over the sitting on my ass part, training has begun, my first race is in one month so.....

Okay, well technically I've been doing little sprints runs, hikes and cross country skiing, all things I've been 'allowed' to do in small doses. It's time to start pushing my body a little bit more. I have to check in with my therapist one more time and then I get to start with my personal trainer. Oh and I also joined my local tri-club, might as well get over that water paranoia.

Goals/Races this year

5km St Paddys day rush March 14th

10km Sun Run April 20ish??

Bare Bones Duathalon 5km run/30km road ride/ 5 km run May 8th?

XTC Sprint Duathalon 5km trail run/ 30km Mountain Bike/ 5km trail run - end of May? OR Whistler Tri a Tri

Whistler Valley Trail Run May 24th

June/July Worca mountain bike races/ Hash hound harriers races/ trail running training BUILD YOUR MILES!!!

Aug - Squamish Days 10km - Whistler 5 Peaks run

September - Victoria Duathalon/ 25km Rubble Creek Run

hmmmm

But let's be realistic, that was my previous, pre-surgery year and I worked up to those races from the prior year. Last year I did Sun Run, 5 Peaks and one duathalon post-surgery and I'm only doing 40min sprints right now hmmmm, last year I was doing 3 hr runs.....

And my weight has fluctuated as high as 194 from the holidays even though it is currently 185.

Stay tuned, I think I'll start 1 race at a time, 1 week at a time, stay healthy, obsess much??

OY!!!! BAHHHHH!!!! PHHHFFFTTTTHHHH!! HISS!

Yes, my little wagon friend, you've been hiding for a longggg while.

I've been totally off my healthy diet for a couple of weeks now. I keep trying to jump back in, but don't go whole hog enough and I make it to just about the end of the day. What is my poison? Booze, sugar, party, party, party....

It was wayyyyy to easy to go back there. Living in a fantasy resort doesn't help because every day feels like a holiday and you get caught up so easy, you forget about you. I keep having friends visit (my house is cheaper than a hotel!!) they come here to party and they want me to join them. Now I don't blame my friends, it's my own path to temptation, I just wish I didn't have SO MUCH FUN!!! But the parties lead to constant cravings of sugar, which I give in to, and the low energy makes me crave cheese and breads, which I give in to, then I feel bad about myself, which I give to, you get the domino idea.

My body is totally pissed at me from racing while I was post-surgery and now I have lots of painful joint, alignment issues going on, and my therapist has banned me from most activity for 3 - 6 months. For those that know me, that is a recipe for depression and bad habits to form. I know I should have listened to my surgeon in the first place but my therapist really hit home when he said I can race half-hearted for the next couple of years or take the 3 months to heal and be strong again.

At least this time has been a learning journey, I know that I cannot submit to sugar, not even those little 100 calorie bars (only 100 calories if you eat only one), I cannot buy in bulk (ie Costco) unless it's healthy fruits/veggies/meats, but really who wants to eat fruits/veggies that have been in the fridge too long? I cannot have cheese with bread in my house, only one or the other.

So, I threw out the warehouse 100 calorie snack pack

I threw out the skinny cow icecreams

I threw out the cheese

I've almost thrown out the guilt, but I'm not quite ready to get back on the scale. I'm having a cleansing weekend to try to get back into my routine and I will weigh in on Monday with (hopefully) not much of a shock! Then I'm going to commit to my rehab the same way I commit to my duathalons!

Wish me luck.

Manically Motivated

You know when you reach those milestone numbers? The ones where you get to a new set of tens, a pant you couldn't get into, a size you were when this or that happened? Do you remember how motivating that was and how freakin OBSESSIVE you became. Oh, I'm there.

Now i know that I got here because I relaxed, stopped having over thousand calories deficits, got into a routine, dropped 8 pds.....

But NOW, I'm so just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Did I lose it because I was sick and took decongestant? Did it go away because I haven't eaten meat, have eaten meat, increased my calories, decreased my calories, ate soup, ate 10 grapefruits, patted my head and my stomach 10 times before beddddddd.

Okay, so I didn't really do that last one! But, I want to know what that magic pill was in my life, so I can keep doing it!!

Anyone else? Obsess much?

178.8!

Finally hit goal number 1, even though I hit goal number 2 many weeks ago! hahaha.

After last weekends turkey lurkey, I've spent this week on a mostly vegetarian diet (beans, lentils and cheese) because I was so full of meat and sausage from last weekend.

Unbelievably I hit a new low of 178.8 this morning, which is 6.2 pds down from Monday! I haven't done anything drastic, ate 1400 - 1500 cals a day and walked a bit, it just goes to show how much is actually bloat when you have a binge. Before I would have freaked out and lost my head for about a week and REALLY put actual pounds on. Now, just writing down that I would have had to consume 14,000 calories OVER my daily burn rates to have gained that 4 pds that I put on between friday and Monday, helps me realize just how silly I've been in the past.

Now I'm sure my loss is water and probably a little muscle, since I have not been training AT ALL, except walking. But my body needs to heal still and I truly believe you have to choose between dieting and training (building muscle). I've read that body builders do the same thing, they diet to lose, then have a cycle of lifting to replace that loss with muscle.

I think I'll stick to my vegie curries for a while, throw in some chicken or a porkchop here or there, until I start my dryland training for skiing in about a month. Next goal 169!

Sooooo fuuuulllllll

of Turkey Lurkey. Why does a visit at my mothers equal a trip to the candy convenience store. 4 days at my moms is going to equal a lot of weight gain, I just haven't figured out how to stop the madness.

Mom: Hi sweetie, how are you, go look in the fridge, I bought you something... urrrrp The only way I have any strength at home is I just don't buy crap, ever! Because I know there is no such thing as a serving of ooey gooey goodness.

I was just crunching numbers because, well..... because I'm a geeky number cruncher by trade (cordie would understand :) And I realized that if I lose 2 pounds per week, every week, until December 30 I will weigh 158 pds, which would render me officially NOT overweight anymore. Granted I want to get to 145 or 150 but HEY that would be FREAKIN AWESOME! New Years and, and, AND it will be my 40th birthday in the first wekk of January. Now that is some serious motivation.

Eating well and then

TTOM comes early and in force! Great! Can I have a bit of luck PLEASE. I would like to have just one non excuse Monday weigh in! haha Apparently that is not to be this week. My low this week is 182.8 which I might post as my official Monday WI before the bloating kicks in.

I'm finally starting to eat my normal cal range again and abstain from YUMMY SUGARY GOODNESS!

I'm getting ready to hunker down. My physio has banned me from all activity for 3 months! I have to choose, skiing in 3 months or a couple more autumn races, hmmmmm tough call, not! I also finallllly got a raise at work and one perk is a $2500 school bonus, so I will be upgrading my commerce degree online, working 3 jobs and trying to have a social life over the next 6 months, not a lot of time for training....

Duathalon Completed!!!

I haven't journaled or counted anything since Thursday and I've been eating to load up on carbs so I think I've probably gained a few but I'm not too concerned about it, my race was more important.

I DID IT, I DID IT! Holy that second run portion was soooooo hard, my legs were cement bricks by then. This year they added 3km distance to the run and the bike portions and I still managed to be only 3 minutes back from my last race time. My two goals were to complete it under 2 hrs and not be last. I did it in 1hr57min and I was 4th from last! hahaha. Wow, there were some SERIOUS triatheles there but oh well, I'm all about finishing not racing. I'm so proud of myself for completing it after my huge year of surgery and recoup, this was the only race I wanted to make sure I got done!!!

I have a few more minor races of running but now I will be focusing on dropping pounds. Thanks to everyone for all their encouragement these last few weeks!

WOOT WOOT!!
