se & Dali

Thanks for the link, lips! That was very cool. Visited the Dali Museum in May, here in St. Pete, and was delighted by so many familiar images in the 'Destino' clip. I cannot imagine what the entire film might be like, having seen some of the really dark stuff that the man left on canvas. :)

s.e. and random

236.6/no counting.

Some things occurred to me this weekend:

I imagine Disney's early animated films were probably thought to be works of art. Especially when one considers the painstaking attention to detail needed to create those amazing backdrops on painted glass.

I always cry at birthing scenes in movies.

Everything I've ever truly yearned for, I've gotten.

s.e. and Pride

2517/239.3

Fell so hard off the wagon last night, I had to check my ass for contusions. Started out innocently enough with a few mixed nuts. Snowballed from there. Seems like I've got to do this at least once a month.

I threw the last two brownies away at lunchtime, yesterday, in order to avoid the temptation, and congratulated myself on that decision. It's hard to convince yourself that in the garbage is better than on your thighs...

Proof that pride cometh before an orgiastic, unfettered snack fest.

On the plus side, I look fabulous today...I've got that nice healthy glow about me, like you get in a manic episode right before the crash.

Yee Haw Wardrobe Moment: new skirt (red and black houndstooth check, pencil) that was a bit too small when I bought it last year, fits just right now. This should provide a little inspiration to get back on the wain.

s.e. & Chicken Au Poivre

1643/238.0

Goodness. To have lived this long without exploring the joy of boneless skinless chicken thighs. They're ugly, but damn good.

These were seasoned with rosemary, garlic, salt and pepper, pan seared, then finished over very low heat in their marsala-deglazed pan. Once they were done, pan juices made a nice au poivre sauce (my version) of dijon, cream and plenty of coarse ground black pepper. Peppercorns take too long to infuse their flavor, IMO, and I didn't want to wait. Regular ole cut green beans on the side...heaven.

Tender and juicy and perfectly able to stand up to the flavorful sauce - lack of prettiness aside. :)

s.e. - and brandywine

1357/236.7

Nice little flambe of sliced bananas, bosc pears and mejool dates for my dessert - of note: instead of flavoring the butter & brown sugar with cinnamon, I decided to use a little five spice powder. Very lovely complexity, without overpowering the delicate flavor of the pears.

Flaming brandy in my best non-stick omelet pan was a misstep, looks like no damage was done, however.

s.e. and Monsters mashed.

238.7

The hunger monster is trying to get back in. I go through cycles where I'm not hungry, every year. This time I decided to capitalize on it and really keep the calories in check. But I can feel the transition to appetite hell. Finally made the damn brownies I've been pining for, but escaped candy day unscathed.

The good news is I know what needs doing - we shall see if it works.

Gators spanked the dawgs. Spent Hallowe'en with friends being in turns delighted by the silly costumes and scared by the wee ghoulies.

Started a new story - bit of contemporary fluff to hone skills.
