Entry Head aches
Dec 10 2009 14:48

I have today off. Real nice. I used one of my works float days to take it off. The timing was great in the sense that we had our first snow storm of the season which would have made for a horrible hour drive into work at 4AM. However, I have spent the whole day sleeping because of a stupid headache which I still have. I took the garbage out to the curb after the kids went to school. And have been laying on the couch half listening to Kung-Fu Panda which I realize is somehow on repeat.

I guess that's all I've got for now.

Merry Christmas.

Hmm, Calorie Count is on Twitter. Neat, I think.

Entry Gearing up.
Nov 18 2009 21:49

I was reading this book today about 101 things you should do before you retire from work. It was quite interesting. There are, of course, so many more than 101 things that could be done.

I flipped through it expecting to be moderately disappointed with the content. Books like that are a dime a dozen and easily thrown together to make a buck or two. This one wasn't.

As a result, I have decided to somehow gear up for a ten KM run. I just need to find one to run in the spring and then get in shape for it.

So it begins.

It happens every other day or so. A call from someone doing a job for the money. They call us to trick interest us in the latest and greatest thing to hit the market since their last call the other day.

I wish they would stop. Yes you have a job to do. Please don't get upset and unreasonable when I decline your offer. I give you the courtesy of my time to allow you to pitch your product or service. You would do well do return that courtesy.

I either have it already or had it once before. Sometimes I just don't even want it at all. I especially like the part where I have no obligation so we'll just sign you up temporarily so that we can send you the paper work and you can make an informed decision. I don't need that. You just spent the last five minutes telling me all about the program. I get it and I don't want to get it. Thank me for your time and move along.

By the way, caller from Green Cove Spring, Florida, don't call here anymore. I am not interested in your service.

Entry The Colors in My Eyes
Oct 18 2009 08:55

The challenge is to give back to our children a world of beauty and wonder.

-Wangari Maathai, Environmentalist (1940- )

We have a lot of work to do to keep this true. I have a lot of work to do. It is hard to find a balance between our consumerism and commercialism with that of preserving the environment.

There are so many pockets of beauty and wonder left in the world but we lose so many each year to development and disaster.

The fall leaves color changing this year was great to see.

Beautiful colors.

Entry Tear me off a sheet, will you?
Aug 01 2009 19:08

Funny joke. I have no idea what guy would be smart enough to say something like that to his wife. I envision some sort of Archie Bunker type.

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small. Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.

"If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds. "

Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts. "How long will this take?" I asked.

"They will grow larger over a period of years," my husband replies. I stopped. "Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?"

Without missing a beat he says, "Worked for your butt, didn't it?"

He's still alive, and maybe with a great deal of therapy, he may even walk again. However, he will probably continue to take his meals through a straw for a very long time to come
.

On a side note, I bought about six or seven packages of Charmin Ultrasoft Double Roll 12 pack for $4.97 each. Totally unrelated.

Entry Translate This...
Jul 28 2009 14:10

Said in that vain of 'Effh this' kind of tone but with a smile. If that makes any sense at all.

Rely upon each other for life.

That is the the goal. It is a present and a future ongoing goal. It's meaning to me is very clear. I have no misinterpretations of that phrases meaning in my head. None.

I have that phrase written on my arm in Kanji script. The neat thing that has happened over the time that it has been on my arm is seeing the reaction of people from Asian region interpret for me the meaning of it to me. It is supposed to mean 'Rely upon each other for life', and for the most part that is how it is translated back to me by them.

Try translating that to another language though, like let's say Italian.

Rely upon each other for life:

  1. Affidarsi ad altri per la vita.
  2. conti su a vicenda per vita
  3. Rispondi a l'altro per la vita
  4. Fidarsi su l'un l'altro per la vita
  5. Affidatevi a vicenda per la vita

now change that to:

Rely on each other for life:

  1. Conti su a vicenda per vita
  2. Si basano su reciprocamente per la vita.
  3. Fidarsi di l'un l'altro per la vita

Translate them back to english:

  1. Affidarsi ad altri per la vita-Rely on others for life.-To entrust itself to others for the life.
  2. Conti su a vicenda per vita-accounts on each other for life-you count on to event for life-accounts on mutually for life
  3. Fidarsi su l'un l'altro per la vita-Rely on it a the other for life-To trust itself on l' a l' other for the life-To trust itself on an other for the life
  4. Affidatevi a vicenda per la vita-Trust each other for life-Affidatevi mutually for the life-You entrusted at event for the life-

One word can change the meaning. Just like spelling and grammer tense along with geographical ways of saying and interpretation/meaning can end up with a different set of words.

The Asian people that have looked at my arm have all agreed that in general my phrase means what it means but they often say that it is 'one boy and one girl relying together for life' or 'one boy and one girl together with one dream', or 'one boy and one girl with one dream to rely on each other for life'. Different intrepretations. Similar meaning.

If I were really asked what I thought. Which I haven't been. I would say that I would like to see it stay in the same Kanji script font. Save the other language for some other sentiment.

-Relying on one specific person for life,

Entry Its my perspectgative...
Jul 25 2009 11:19

It is easy to take everything forgranted in my life. I have three wonderful children and a beautiful life. There are not very many needs that have to be met. I should learn something form George Carlin -comedian- that he could write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate.

   A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways
, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ' I love you ' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

 AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Help me to learn and remember.
