Entry P90X Round 4 day 16: Plyometrics and a 3.0 mile run
May 19 2009 14:33

Woohoo!!! There's nothing like a new gadget for this overgrown kid. Laughing

This is my new toy, a Garmin Forerunner 405 CX, a GPS enabled fitness watch with an included heart rate monitor.

Since I am a geek, I'm using all its data gathering capabilities to chart and track all my workouts. I've had it in my hands since yesterday, but only got to use it for a short doggie walk because yesterday was a non-running day for me.

However, today, I used the HRM while doing my Plyometric workout, and this is what my heart rate looks like (with an average of 111 and a high of 145):

And the GPS tracking data works perfectly with the Trailguru web site too. I can run, and then I go to website and click a button that downloads the track data directly and sets up a map of my run.

Time to go for a short 3 mile run now. Laughing

I hope you are all having a great week. I'll update this entry later with my run data.

Update: Here is my run this afternoon.

Entry P90X Round 4 Day 9: Plyometrics + a short run
May 12 2009 23:18

Today's workout was Plyometrics. I did it in the afternoon at work.

Got home, watched American Idol, then went out for a short run with the dogs.

I'm a little bit tired and a tiny bit burned out. Work is busy, and I am also trying to keep my workout schedule on track. I probably need a little more rest and fun.

I may try to take it a little easy in the next few days. We'll see.

I should probably just go to bed and get some good sleep tonight.

I hope everyone else is having fun.

Entry P90X Round 4 Day 8: Chest and Back and Ab Ripper X
May 11 2009 14:39

Today's workout was Chest and Back and Ab Ripper X.

I did the workout with bands today, in the fitness center at work. It was fine.

Things are a little bit busy at work, but nothing to complain about.

Have a great week, everybody!

Entry Update for today
May 05 2009 23:12

I did everything I said (the Plyometrics DVD at work, plus yesterday's Ab-Ripper-X routine) and I also did my 3 mile short run.

This time both Annika the Yorkie and JT my beagle were able to keep up with me. Once again, I did the run in 3:1 run/walk ratio and finished the whole thing in 10:26 minutes/mile pace (mostly due to JT lagging at times).

Now off to take a quick rinse and get some good sleep.

Entry P90X Round 4 started yesterday. Today is Day 2: Plyometrics.
May 05 2009 07:59

I did the Chest and Back routine yesterday. My numbers were less than they were before, but I am baselining to my new numbers (given that I took about 3 weeks from the P90X workouts to prepare for the marathon I just ran).

Today's workout is Plyometrics. I am taking the DVD into work and plan to do the workout in the fitness center at work.

Have a great week, everyone!

Entry First Long Run (6.0 miles) preparing for Metro Silicon Valley Marathon (10/25/09)
May 03 2009 14:20

Here is the run.

This was basically four times around my dog-walking loop (measured out to be 1.5 miles), run using Jeff Galloway's run-walk method with a 3:1 run-to-walk ratio (3 minutes running, 1 minutes walking).

The first loop I was running with JT (the beagle in the pictures) and Annika. I then left JT at home and continued to run with Annika (the Yorkshire Terrier in the pictures) and then continued to run the remaining 3 miles.

Here is a picture of JT after the run:

And Annika after the run:

And me:

Entry Post big Sur marathon, what's next?
May 02 2009 15:41

Hi everyone,

I spent a week resting, but I am itchy to start running and working out again. I miss the P90X workouts and definitely am missing the running. More accurately, my muscles are full of unspent energy and I need to listen to my body.

I just did this short run with my dogs: Short run with dogs. They are both pooped out now (I think they need to run more with me). The pace was an easy 10 minutes per mile.

My next workout/fitness plans: I will be following the Jeff Galloway marathon preparation plan, to prepare for the Metro Silicon Valley Marathon on Sunday 10/25/2009, and I will use the San Jose Rock and Roll Half Marathon on 10/4/2009 as a training run.

My marathon training calendar is here, in case any of you are interested to know the specifics of how I got myself ready for the Big Sur Marathon.

I'm still absorbing the lessons/experience of last Sunday's run. I will write more about it later.

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Entry P90X Round 3 Day 90: Finished!
Apr 20 2009 00:04

Round 3 of P90X is in the bag.

Today, I ran a quick 7 mile run. Pace was 9:15 minutes per mile the whole time!

The trailguru website is down, so I mapped the run using the iMapMyRun application.

As of tomorrow, I will be off of strenuous exercise till next Sunday, when I will be running the Big Sur marathon. I am so excited!
