Entry New low: 145.8!

Woo hoo!! Yahoo!!

(Doing the Happy Troll Dance)

Okay, enough of that.

(More Happy Troll Dance)

Allright... Okay... I can let myself have many Happy Troll Dance moments throughout the day. ;-)

I spent about 90 minutes on the Elliptical yesterday, because I was watching TV at the same time and sort of lost track of the fact that I was exercising. My feet were on automatic and I was in the zone.

Now I have to do a quick shopping trip for fresh ingredients for the crockpot before I go to work... So, I must cut this short.

Bye for now!

Entry Making other people feel bad :-(
Feb 12 2007 10:43

I have an ex-wife who is still a friend to me and we live very close to each other. We met, fell in love, and got married when I was barely out of my teens.

The other day, I was over at her house. I mentioned that "I now weigh the same as when we first met."

She looked at me and jokingly said, "Okay. Can I say that I hate you now?"

I laughed, but I felt bad because I had no intention of making her feel bad about herself in any way. :-( She has had some weight issues and my remark was probably insensitive.

I spent the rest of the time steering the conversation, listening, affirming her and her goals -- in short, putting my attention on her and taking my focus off of me.

I want to be a positive person in her life, even though we divorced many years ago.

Anyway... Have a great Monday, everyone!

Everyone else seems to be doing this, so I thought I might too.

Today I ended up skipping breakfast (not really on purpose) and I did about 45 minutes of aerobic and weights with Gilad on FitTV. That's why my deficit is so high. How does it all look?

Entry It's my wife's birthday. Vacuuming with my Dyson Animal.
Feb 10 2007 11:04

Today is my wife's birthday.

In addition to taking her out and giving her cards and presents, I decided to super-clean the bedroom and vaccuum the entire house. So, while she did paperwork and read her assigned reading for her classes, I went about my plan.

The housecleaning is something that I'me pretty used to, but I wanted to do an extra-nice job --- take the Dyson hose and suck up the cobwebs in the corner, take out the attachments and clean in the far corners, vacuum under the bed, etc.

So, as I'm having fun, flinging the canister around and vacuuming, a question pops into my head so I took a break so that I could ask it here:

How come vacuuming is considered "woman's work"?

I mean, come on. It's physical. This thing is not light and it's kind of fun moving it around (one handed sometimes just for the fun of it). My wife would have a harder time slinging this machine around than I do. It's a big old honking beautiful piece of machinery. It makes a satisfying loud noise. It sucks things up, and you can even watch things like marbles spin in the clean plastic canister part. :-)

It's a perfect toy for a grown up boy. And, in addition to all of this, it leaves things clean in its wake, which makes the woman happy, which makes the man happy! ;-)

So, I'm in house-cleaning heaven and I'm getting a little bit of exercise in. What's not to like?

Okay. If any of you have any thoughts, please share.

I'm going back to finish the job. Dust bunnies, beware!

Entry Friday... abs are starting to not hurt
Feb 09 2007 13:19

After about a week, my abs are starting to not hurt as much. This means I need to step up the intensity. :-)

I'm not feeling that talkative (writative?) today.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Entry It's a happy Wednesday
Feb 07 2007 10:03

I am in a chipper mood today.

Yesterday I took a first crack at my taxes. My refund will be about $6K, not counting the schedule C business expenses for my wife's music teaching business. This is good, because I need to wipe out about $8K in credit card debts. The final number will probably be close to that.

I also managed to do the mini-shopping, help my wife with some things around the house, and do all the laundry (three baskets full).

This morning, I weighed myself at 146.6. I am definitely losing weight again, having increased my calorie target. I also feel a bit less drained than when I was at 1600 calories.

In my exercise, I am trying to increase the intensity of my aerobic work (incorporating HIIT ideas), and increase the repititions of my sledgehammer workouts to get me to the next level. Thanks, Andrea (aesb), for that tidbit.

I hope you are all having a great week so far. If not, I hope the rest of the week is better. ;-)

Best regards,
---Kayvan

Entry Ugh. Taxing Tuesday.
Feb 06 2007 08:49

I plan on taking a first crack at my taxes today.

I also have to pick up a few groceries for dinner tonight, go to the bank, and the pet food store, yada yada yada.

Hmmm... Maybe I don't have to let my initial trepidation at my many (self chosen!) tasks color my mood for the rest of the day... Hmmm...

I think I'm going to have a good day in spite of what Uncle Sam and the rest of the world says! That's right, you vipers and extortionists, can take my money, but you won't take my joy! So there!

Entry Monday morning: 148.2
Feb 05 2007 09:59

After hanging out in the low 147 range for the last couple of days, this morning I was back at 148.2. I'm not worried, though, since I know that the extra weight is just going to get flushed down the toilet.

Another Monday, another week.

The Ab Fabs Challenge should really be called Slappy's Ten Minutes of Torture... I did my ten minutes this morning, but oh how painful it was!

I hope you are all doing great.

Entry Stupid human workout tricks: Grocery shopping
Feb 04 2007 11:29

I got up at 6:30 AM this morning to chop up the onion, green peppers and the sausage for the omelet I would be making for my wife later in the morning.

At 7:00 AM, my daughter and I had an appointment to try out a DVD named "Burnagenics" with some really perky looking blond named Shpresa. My daughter likes trying workout DVDs and likes it when I join her, and it's fun, and it's a good thing for me to encourge her interest in fitness, and I like seeing those really perky trainer women wearing shorts and tight fitting outfits moving around. ;-)

Anyhow... It was a fun little half hour workout. Then, I made the omelet (onions, green peppers, sausage and shredded cheese) for my wife. After serving her the breakfast, I told her that I would walk to the grocery store to do a mini shopping and asked what she wanted.

A bit later, armed with my list, I started walking.

The list: soda, sushi rice, nori (sushi seaweed sheets), sugar, and a few other odds and ends.

Halfway there, I realized that I should probably have brought a backpack. Oh well. How bad can it be? It's too late to turn back now. At the end of my 20 minute walk, I am at the grocery store.

I went through the aisles, grabbed a ten pound sack of sushi rice, two 5-pound sugar sacks, a couple of frozen meals, some feminine products that my wife asked for, the nori, one refrigerator-pack of 12 cans of soda, and went to check out.

So, now, with all the stuff in plastic bags and my 12 pack of soda, I grab all the bags and the soda (holding it with the slit in the carton) and start walking back home.

As you might imagine, holding a ten pound bag of rice and a few other groceries in one hand, two 5-pound bags of sugar in bags around my other wrist, and trying to hold a 12-pack refrigerator-carton of soda can get very tiring very fast. I was really wishing I had brought my backpack at this point. ;-)

About a quarter of the way home, my muscles are really burning and shaking but I am still doing fine... till the grocery bag holding the rice broke. The rice bag itself was intact, but I had no easy way to carry it. I was unprepared for this possibility.

So now what? I still had to carry all the groceries home and now the ten pound sac of rice and the soda pack were truly unwieldy...

I thought for a second, then I looked around, found a good place to stash all the groceries behind some bushes, and ran back to the grocery store. :-) :-) I got a clerk to give me a bunch of plastic bags, then ran back to where I had stashed my stuff.

I ended up double bagging everything, and then I had a moment of inspiration: I put the two 5-pound sugar bags in one bag, the ten pound rice in another bag, then I tied a third bag to the handle of the two bags and slung the whole thing around my neck, with the two ten pound weights hanging balanced in front of me. Then, I grabbed the remaining bags of groceries with one hand and the soda-pack in the other hand and walked home.

It was a nice workout. ;-) However, I think I'll remember my backpack the next time.

I hope your Sunday is more fun than mine has been so far.
