Entry Still stabilizing. Time for a mental push.
Nov 29 2006 10:05

My weight this morning was at 161.4. I'm basically maintaining at around 161... Which means I am almost at 159!!! :-) :-)

Time for a little self-hypnosis... You can follow along with me if you let yourself relax and read the following to yourself slowly. :-)

As I am sitting here... I can start to become aware of the feeling of the cool air around me... The sounds around me... The ambient noises... And taking a deeeeeep breath... I start to relax my shoulders... flexing my toes causes another small wave of relaxation... Can I feel what it feels like in my left big toe?... Yes... Becoming more aware of my body... Becoming more aware of what I need... Another deep, relaxing breath... Perhaps remembering what it will feel like... And another deeeeeep breath... as my body gets leaner with each day... With each step, I am walking towards better health... Each choice is becoming easier and easier... Each day my steps are lighter... Another deep breath of relaxation... Ahhh... That's good. You can feel it... Can't you? The goal is in reach. :-)

Okay, that was a nice break. Next: A session on the treadmill.

Entry Sliding back down... Damn you, salt!!!
Nov 28 2006 08:46

Yes, my weight blip was most likely salt-induced water retention. I'm already sliding back down. This morning I weighed in at 161.0 (down 1.0 lbs in one day with normal eating, lots of water drinking, and exercise --- clearly impossible other than mostly water weight).

Another day, another 1/7 pound! :-)

Best regards,

---Kayvan

Entry Back to a normal week... Ate well, but gained 2 lbs!
Nov 27 2006 10:53

Armed with a truck-load of leftovers, we left my Mom's house on Saturday night.

I did okay through Thanksgiving and the aftermath, always eating less than my maintenance level of calories, but...

I stepped on the scale this morning and I am sitting at 162. I have gained 2 lbs!!! I try not to let it bug me, but it clearly did.

Since a gain of 2 lbs over a weekend is clearly impossible given what I have eaten, I would guess that it's due to water retention connected with a higher than my usual sodium intake.

I'll just keep drinking water and keep eating healthy and exercising and it all should normalize in a day or two.

Best regards,

---Kayvan

Entry The next challenge: Visiting Mom's House
Nov 25 2006 01:11

We all get into the car and visit my Mom tomorrow.

She is the stereotypical Iranian mother.

"Eat. You look so thin... Eat. Eat!"

I'll be lucky if I manage to stay under my maintenance level, but I guess it's okay. It's just one day. :-)

Best regards,

---Kayvan

Entry Portion control is becoming easier
Nov 24 2006 00:50

I went through the Thanksgiving feast and still managed to keep under 1700 calories for the day.

Now I am certain that I can do this, without feeling like I am depriving myself.

Very cool!

Entry It's Thanksgiving
Nov 23 2006 13:39

I am a cooking fool!

I've been cooking since early morning. Baked an apple pie, a pumpkin pie, and with my son's help, prepared stuffing, cleaned and salted and stuffed our 20 lb turkey, bagged it and put it in the oven. It'll be ready in a few hours... Yummmy!

I love my new Oneida cutlery (new carving knife, boning knife, carving fork). Can't wait to use it this afternoon to carve the turkey.

I love cooking for people. It's even more fun with my son helping.

On the food front: I've managed to eat my usual Kashi GoLean cereal for breakfast, and snack on carrots, a spoonful of stuffing and a serving of ham. I'm not all that hungry and I'm saving my calorie allowance for the Thanksgiving feast. Keeping myself busy certainly makes it easy!

Happy Thankgiving everyone!!!

Entry The day before thanksgiving...
Nov 22 2006 11:27

I'm looking forward to tomorrow...

Mostly looking forward to cooking the turkey, making the stuffing, making the side dishes, and the pies. I enjoy the cooking and the aromas and the people almost more than the eating and the bloated feelings. ;-)

The other thing I'm excited about is that this year it will be different than every other year. This year, I plan on taking small portions, and enjoying everything slowly, and talking and being with my family.

No more over-eating this year. No more bloated feeling.

I intend to satisfy emotional and spiritual hungers during this holiday season, while enjoying the abundant food in moderation.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!

Entry Starting off on the right foot
Nov 21 2006 11:36

It's mid-morning and I'm in the middle of work projects.

However, I've managed to eat an apple and two packets of oatmeal and I feel full. That's around 360 calories. I will easily keep under my caloric limit today.

I also know that I will make time this afternoon to exercise on the elliptical once more.

Next week, I plan to break the 160 barrier. :-) :-)

Entry Followup on promises...
Nov 20 2006 20:42

I did everything I said! :-)

I took a nice hour-long exercise break in the middle of my day, burning off about 500 calories. In addition, I am at 1500 calories for the day.

Now, if I just keep this up, I'll be back to my normal weight.

My promises to myself:

1) Eat healthy and keep to my target (1700 calories or less).

2) Exercise: One hour on the eliptical at work this afternoon.

3) Have fun!
