This morning, I did the Kenpo-X workout with Katherine.
Later, I did a 5 mile run in about 52 minutes. Trailguru is down right now, but when it comes back, I will upload the route and put a link here.
One weird thing: Since Tuesday, I went cold turkey on caffeine and
artificial sweeteners. That first day (Wednesday) I was extremely
sleepy. The second day was fine in terms of energy. I only drank water
or organic juices since then. No tea, no coffee, no diet sodas.
In
this same time period, I started having systemic pains in both legs'
thighs and calves, around my left shoulder joint and the hip flexor and
muscles around my right buttocks. The pains are not sharp pains typical
of an injury, but rather a slow, dull ever-present pain. The intensity
seems to ebb and flow. When it's particularly bad, it's uncomfortable
to sit still or lie down (it feels better to walk or even to run). In
fact, I felt a bit better for a few hours after my 5 mile run today.
Any ideas for what this could be? I don't even know if it's
connected, but the cutting out of caffeine and artificial sweeteners is
the only recent change.
I'm just riding it out right now. I can
use self hypnosis to allow myself to lie
still and to sleep despite these unusual pains.
Thanks for any ideas.

Today's workout is Legs and Back + Ab Ripper X.
I'm feeling a bit tired, but that's because as of Tuesday, I have gone cold turkey on caffeine and artificial sweeteners. No saccharin, aspartame, sucralose... and no diet colas...
I'm getting a bit more sleep and my body is feeling a bit more naturally energetic with each day, so I think I am detoxing.
Still... The lure of coffee was very strong this morning ay breakfast, though I did resist.
TGIF!!! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Did the Plyometrics DVD with my daughter early this morning. It was very fun! A little bit easier to push ourselves when we have a workout partner.
Back at work today. Not much else going on. Work. Meetings. More meetings, a little bit more work.
I'll be running 3 miles at some point today.
Update: Visited a friend of mine at the VA hospital in Palo Alto today in the afternoon, so I didn't get to do my usual Tuesday afternoon run. So, when I got home tonight, I delegated some chores to my son and went running.
Wow! I feel wonderful and the run stats are also nice!

Did my workout this morning with my daughter, Katherine. This starts the rotation for the second month's cycle of workouts.
Tomorrow's workout is Plyometrics. I will also do a 3 mile run at work tomorrow.
I took today off, so I am just hanging out at home.
Have a great week, everyone!

I bundled up this morning, put my iPhone in two zip-loc bags, and started my run at around 7:40 AM. In the rain. A little over an hour later, I was at the 6 mile turnaround point. Only a couple of walk breaks, I basically ran the whole way.
I was so amazingly excited afterwards, because I did not let a little weather get in the way of my training plan. Yeah me!
Here is the trailguru page for my 12 mile run.
Went to Church afterward.
Right after Church, I got to meet Sara (smwhipple) and her boyfriend at a local Starbucks. They stopped on the way back to Southern California. It was very fun to meet them!
I'm going to go get some lunch next, and possibly see a movie (The Wrestler).

This is the last workout of the recovery week. On Monday, the grueling fun starts again!
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I hope you are all aware that this day marks the martyrdom of Saint Valentine, martyred around 269 AD. The feast of St. Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius I. In the Eastern Orthodox tradition, St. Valentine's day is commemorated on July 6.

At 7AM, my daughter Katherine and I started the Core Synergistics DVD. Afterwards, we went to breakfast at a local restaurant.
Later in the day, I did my 3 mile run that I was unable to do yesterday. Check out the average pace! 9:18 minutes per mile!!!!
Have a great weekend everybody!

Kat came over at 5:45 this morning and we did the Stretch-X routine.
Then I carpooled to work with a friend. We'll be leaving work at 4PM today and I will do a 3 mile run when I get home. I will update this entry when I have finished that run.
Tomorrow and Monday are vacation days for me, so I get a four day weekend.
Hope your day is going well, my friends!

This morning, my nineteen year old daughter and I did the Kenpo-X workout together. So much fun! And she did better than the last time.
She's coming over to continue in the sequence with me tomorrow morning. It just might work for her to come over and share the P90X workouts with me. We'll see. She'll get fit pretty quickly.
After that, I had to go to the new data center to do some prep work for the upcoming work move. I actually like hanging out in data centers. Rows of racks, machines, cables, clean and neat lines... Ahhhh... It's so nice and tidy and peaceful.
I'm looking forward to sitting on the couch in front of the TV, watching American Idol tonight!

I have some meetings and work to do to prepare for them.
Later today, I will be doing a 3+ mile (30 minute) run. I will update this entry then.
Update: Here is my run today. My average pace was 9:27!!! Getting slightly faster with each mini-run.
