New Decision
Nov 29 2009 11:01

I am going to maintain my weight of appx 147 or so for a month or two for a few reasons:

I have been losing very slowly, even with a deficit of about 6-700 cals a day. My body seems to be tired of it.

I am a healthy weight

I will put the scale aside for a few weeks, eat 2100 cals a day and walk and lift weights as much as possible. Starting in January, I am going to step up the works outs some more and have a 500 cal deficit, aiming to lose the rest of the weight within 6 weeks, as well as putting on some muscle.

Pretty much, I am aiming for a total body makeover. I started it in June, and my goal is to finish by my birthday, in April. Not just weight wise, but tone, strength, flexibility, speed....

My eating has been bad. It was me and G's 1 year anniversary yesterday, so we went to Bucca De Beppo. Did not eat tooo much, but yeah, his friends had a thanksgiving leftover potluck last night.

My breakfast today was a slice of pie, and my bf wants to go out for hamburgers.....

I just looked @ the nutritional facts for

Fudds

....not too bad.

here we go again - shin splints r back!
Nov 29 2009 09:13

first run after Atlanta half. Breaking in Mizuno Wave Alchemy's. Warm humid morning. Shorts and short sleeve shirt and that's it. Was surprised to get shin splints during walk intervals again in right leg for the first 1-1 1/2 mi. Could be new shoe syndrome as when I broke in the Saucony and Asic's. Not as bad tho. Tried running 2 min, walking 1, without exceeding hr-107 (Maffetone's max aerobic hr). Also got some left foot toe and ball of foot numbness during the running segments. I had re-laced the left shoe and the eliminated the pressure on the top of my foot. Started to feel slight pressure on right so re-laced that one too after the run. Will add the Dr Scholls in for next run to see if that helps. I had to use them when I had the last Alchemy's. Might also try removing the insoles as I did with the END OTG shoes.

Overall, a struggling beginning with a sweat ending. Could need a more thorough, more walking, warm up - another thing to try. Why is it the races seem so much easier than training?

Type      Dist  Time      Total Time Pace HR Avg/Max Notes
Interval 1 Mi 14:35.95 14:35.95 14:36 89/102 pace to fast for warm up
Interval 1 Mi 15:07.51 29:43.46 15:08 94/102 run 2 walk 1;shin splints slowed walking
Interval 1 Mi 14:53.71 44:37.17 14:54 97/106 run 2 walk 1
Interval 0.75 Mi 11:46.91 56:24.08 15:43 94/106 cool down, r/w=1

Brining the bird

Excellent result from the overnight brine. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the drippings were not excessively salty, so the gravy was good.

At the last minute, we packed up all the food and took it over to elder's to see their new house. It is gorgeous. I am so happy for them, and so grateful for my life. :)

:)
Nov 26 2009 21:11

I had: baked mac n cheese, ham, turkey, rump roast and ribs (don't worry, one small serving of each) a tiny bit of stuffing, some homemade bread and for dessert....a piece of my cream cheese pie, sweet potato pie, some blue bell AND a small piece of red velvet. All together...about 3-4000 for the day. My food turned out perfect. The bread was just right, soft and warm and buttery and yeastySmile. Everybody got a 2nd helping of the baked mac n cheese. And loved both pies.

This is not an apology or I feel soooo guilty journal. I enjoyed it. Shoot.... One day of over eating out the year is not that serious. But me and my bf went on a 4-5 mile long walk this morning, and me the bf and his sister took a mile or so walk between dinner and dessert. So about 5-6 miles today. And we plan on doing pretty good tomorrow too.

Keep moving...that is the goal. The moving belts at the airport and over relaxed people getting trolled around made me realize just how lazy we are as a society....why can't we walk to the next terminal? It should be a natural thing to just walk....anyways. I decided to never take a moving belt again, or an escalator unless absolutely necessary.

Lifestyle....can't be summed up in one day. Thanksgiving did not ruin your diet....just in case you were wondering.

One <3!!!

What I made -except for the baked mac and cheese. It had been eaten too much and no longer at all pretty. (They did not turn out as pretty as I wanted, but as far as taste, everything was a 9.5 or so, so I was happy!!!)

Giving Thanks
Nov 26 2009 12:44

I proably should have thought about gratitude on our Thanksging, like a good Canadian girl, but I was too busy travelling and stuffing my face with turkey and perogies. Heh.

So meganr and the Spirit of the Holiday (maybe these are one and the same, hmmmm?) has inspired me to think about what I am grateful for. My list is brief, but they are things that I can't even explain how much they mean to me, I get teary just thinking about it.

I am grateful for my awesome family whom I love dearly, warts and all. I am grateful for the universe that deemed me worthy of such an incredible, wonderful mate; for my cat who is unfailingly affectionate and forgiving of my absences; for my inner strength and desire to better myself that carries me through the tough times; for friends and loved ones who offer kindnesses that I don't always feel I deserve and in doing so make me feel more deserving.

Thank you all for being here for me whenever I need a kind word, or advice, or just a place to vent, or a sense of belonging and sisterhood. You've all become very important to me and I can't imagine not having this support in my journey, I would feel so alone. Thank you, thank you.

And thank you to Revenue Canada for offering a payment plan for paying back-taxes :/.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have the sponge starter for a loaf of whole wheat Italian herb bread resting in the bread machine, am gearing up to make sage (turkey) sausage biscuits and gravy and have planned a non traditional evening meal of pan seared sirloin, dry roasted fingerling potatoes cooked with a pile of bay leaves that I will finish in the steak pan drippings, with a side broccoli or sauteed Brussels sprouts I picked from the garden yesterday....a simple yet lively red wine will accompany the feast.

We plan on spending the day cranking tunes while weeding through the filing cabinet, and leisurely packing non essential interior items... then we most likely will shag our brains out and put this day to rest.

Hope all is joyful and well with all of you!

WELL, I JUST STARTED TO COOK THE BIGGEST PARTS OF DINNER.. CAKES AND PIES.. I DIDN'T HAVE TO COOK ANY OF THOSE.. THAT'S WHAT THE STORE IS FOR. I GOT MY PIES, AND I CAME RIGHT ON HOME. I WILL BE COOKING SOME YAMS LATER ON IN THE MORNING, AND ALL OF THIS COOKING IS MAKING ME WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT, BUT I AM BEING MINDFUL OF MY PROGRESS THUS FAR, AND WORKING HARD ON KEEPING EVERYTHING UNDERCONTROL. IT'S ANOTHER DAY TO ME, AND THAT'S HOW I'M GOING TO LOOK AT IT, BUT A DAY WITH THANKS.

I'M THANKFUL FOR.. GOD, NEW BEGINNING, MY FAMILY, MY FIANCE, AND LIFE.

NOW IT'S TIME TO GET BACK INTO THE KITCHEN AND CHECK ON MY DINNER.

Thanksgiving day Half - up early
Nov 26 2009 03:59

Well I woke up a half hour early... figures. It's not like I haven't raced before, even in a crowd. There could be 11,000 half runners this morning. Well I am already dressed and was supposed to be getting up now.

I hope to meet one of the RunningAhead folks at a Waffle house near the starting line. Would be nice to meet some folks in rl for a change. Haven't run into anyone from CC or RA yet and have been using them for quite a few years. One of the RA folks ran the FW Marathon but I didn't know he was there.

well time to leave. Hope to bbl to update how it went.

Edit: Race was awesome. I was less than a minute from a pb on challenging hilly course. Finished in 3:00:26. bp is 2:59:44! 42sec slower!

It was about 36 at the start. I was in the last corral and held back when folks started trotting to the start line. Heck I wasn't going to run anymore than I needed to and it took me 8 min to get to the start. It was a wave start so the last 2 corrals started at 0706, the first two, where my son was, started at 0700. It took him seconds to get to the start. He finished in 1:37:36 a pb.

The course had a lot of steep hills, not so steep hills, a long decline, but a lot of hills. Not generally a pb course. I think the cool weather helped. And I ran close to the measured line and didn't "overrun" the course, only going .2mi long.

Had a great time!

packet pickup
Nov 25 2009 17:39

quick note.

Packet pickup day , got nice long sleeve tech shirt then wandered the expo. got some another free tech shirt from the ING marathon booth, and some free bottles of energy drinks. Not the best packet handout tho.

Edit: one thing I did get at the expo - a car magnet saying "13.1 been there RUN that!" When I saw it I knew I had to have it.

We're getting up at 5am, leave the house by 5:30am so we can get to the race area by 6:30 or so. We have to take Marta (Atl train system) for one stop because we're not going to be able to park at the stop closest the start.
