well, it's 6:03 pm and I have not had a cigarrette yet today. I am into my 3rd week on Chantix and it's working. .. . . my main concern now is to make sure I DO NOT gain any weight from this, i'm still trying to loose ya know ?! The last few I had I didn't even enjoy, I could tell it was just the habit of putting my hand to my mouth. I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of candy would be good for me... I feel like buying a bag of those chocolate Reisen's, lol. But I know that isn't good..... I do have some sugar free gum, but gum is wierd, I think chewing it sometimes makes me hungry !!
I am doing this #1 for my health, and #2 for my Mom who passed last year due to COPD / Emphysema from smoking. Yesterday she would have turned 59.
I think she would be proud of me for this. And my Grandmother, I am really hoping to be able to tell her I quit by the time she comes back from Florida in March. She keeps on me... I don't blame her after what she went through with my Mother.
Any comments are really appreciated.
I quit smoking about a year ago...I used the patch. My sister quit shortly there after and used Chantix. We're both still smoke free! Some candies that worked well for me were sugar free lifesavers. Freshen the breath and something to have in your mouth. However, I wasn't successful in the NOT gaining weight department. So not sure I should giving the advice! Good luck on your journey to be healthier! -D |
Sorry about your mom. But really I have no clue what kind of candy would help you. 1, I don't smoke. 2, the only candy I really like is chocolate and that's not good. Not a very good way to keep the weight off you know. (eating lots of chocolate.) Anyways, good job for quitting! Keep it up! Good luck. |
Thank you both for the comments. We'll see how this goes. My sister in-law is in her 40's for days she quit with Chantix. I just signed up for the Get Quit program that came with the prescription. I hope I stay smoke free because I may get a nice new elliptical machine from Gram.... that will help me get even more healthy !!

I quit smoking in March - used nicotine gum for a while to get over the craving; what I found was that doing some pushups or bodyweight squats to get the blood pumping also helped distract my mind from reaching for something to put in my mouth. That, and sugarfree gum to transition off the nicotine gum. 'course, I still gained some weight - nicotine is a stimulant and you can burn 200-400 calories extra a day just from the extra effort your heart puts forth when it's racing under a nicotine rush. So you burn less and have a tendency to put more in your mouth, not a good combo. It's controllable though, as long as you use the CC tools and log everything religiously you won't overeat, and if you do a few squats every time you notice a craving your body will soon stop craving things :) |
Way to go!!! Just stopping is such an accomplishment. Even though I don't smoke, my husband used the nicorette gum. You can get addicted to that though, so you have to watch out! I can't give you any candy pointers, but just wanted to say good job! |
I have been on Chantix about 6 weeks, and today is exactly 4 weeks since I have had a cigarette. This is about the 5th or 6th time I have tried to quit, the 3rd time I've tried using Chantix. I really think its the best way to quit, for me at least. I have also lost 20 pounds since I started, so I don't think you HAVE to gain when you quit. I would say that you don't want to substitute candy for smoking, even if it is sugar-free, because alot of them still have some calories, and if you eat/suck on them all day long, it will add up. Try to always have a no calorie beverage with you ( I hate plain water so I drink alot of diet soda and sugar free iced tea ) Good Luck! |
