Why Go High Fat Very Low Carb?

Simply eating more fat wont release fat because too much carb and
sugar will keep the fat in the fat cells and increase the rate at which
is it stored due to the insulin reaction to sugar in the blood stream
which is then related to how triglycerides are stored and kept in the
fat cells, in all its varieties.

My understanding is that you simply cannot get store too much fat if you are
eating according to hunger and eating very little carb (and moderate protein as it does get turned into glucose like carb) because so long
as there is enough fat in the buffer your body will not release the
hormones to tell your brain that you need more energy and you need to
eat more. So you end up only eating when needed and only as much as needed.
None will get stored in significant amounts in the body eating this way. Eating carb does not do this as it gets absorbed into the blood stream very quickly, hangs out for a while waiting to get used as fuel and if not used then gets used to store fat via the triglyceride-insulin reaction.

Plus if you eat enough carb to reach your insulin resistance threshold, your body will produce enough insulin to make your fat cells ONLY store fat, very reluctantly releasing it no matter how little you eat.

sigh

For a good primer see this video. Then get the book Good Calories Bad Calories.

New Rules of Lifting for Women Co-Author Interview

Here is a cool podcast with the co-author of The New Rules of Lifting for Women, Cassandra Forsythe:

Podcast

Eat Fat to Lose Fat

Scientific reasoning for why to eat fat in order to lose weight:

Eat Fat to Lose Fat

"When few carbohydrates are provided in the diet, but the diet does
contain fat, mice are able to switch to an efficient mode that allows
them to consume stored fat for energy. Mice are not people, and the
usual admonition applies--more research is required."

Interestingly Cassandra Forsythe of The New Rues of Lifting for Women recommends a high fat diet -- and have you seen her? She is amazingly fit and beautiful.

There is something to this!

The Skinny on Fats

Read this: The Skinny on Fats.

SUMMARY

Most people, especially infants and growing children, benefit from more fat in the diet rather than less. But the fats we eat must be chosen
with care. Avoid all processed foods containing newfangled hydrogenated
fats and polyunsaturated oils. Instead, use traditional vegetable oils
like extra virgin olive oil and small amounts of unrefined flax seed
oil. Acquaint yourself with the merits of coconut oil for baking and
with animal fats for occasional frying. Eat egg yolks and other animal
fats with the proteins to which they are attached. And, finally, use
as much good quality butter as you like, with the happy assurance that
it is a wholesome—indeed, an essential—food for you and your whole family.

No More Strong Hunger; No Cravings

I thought the Atkins people were a little nuts until I couldnt take the hunger pangs I constantly had and a month or two ago started cutting way down on starchy and sugary foods. And wouldnt ya know it Im not hungry all the time. Huh! It worked. I am not low carb or anything but Im way lower carb than I was. I am also not craving sweets like I used to. I still get hungry of course but the hunger is pretty manageable and I can eat a nice small meal and feel great.

I am a little dizzy though. They say this is normal when dropping carbs and sugars. I hope it goes away soon.

For those of you having a hard time dealing with hunger and cravings, try replacing at least one starchy item, even oatmeal!, in your diet with somethings less carb like bell peppers, spinach, boiled eggs, tuna, chicken, beef, blue berries, avocado, squash, cheese, and even some whole milk (really whole milk and RAW milk is even more awesome if you can get it).

Half Marathon Race Report: 2:36

Well, I finally did it.

The race on Sunday was a total blast. The area was beautiful and I had a great view of the Catalina Mountains and Pusch Ridge pretty much the whole run. The race was really well managed and everyone was really nice and supportive and cheering like crazy. I loved it and finished in my expected time.

I averaged less than 12 minutes / mile for a chip time of 2hours and 36 minutes.

I came in 42nd out of like 47 in my division (Female, age 30-34). :) Heee.

I'm so sore!

Half Marathon Training Report: Sick All Week

Sunday is the big race and I have been sick all week. I haven't gotten in even one easy run since Saturday's 10K. I'm worried that I won't be able to handle the 13 miles very well.

Does anyone have an experience here? I feel much better and I'm sure I'll be able to run but what I can expect in terms of my performance since I've been off my feet all week?

I talked to my BF about this and his response was: Buck up. You're a runner.

I love him.

10 K Race -- Sabino Canyon Sunset Run

Saturday I ran in the Sabina Canyon Sunset 10K. I loved it. It was run at, yep, sunset in Sabino Canyon in Tucson and if you don't know anything about Sabino Canyon, well, let me tell you it is one of the most beautiful places in the woooorld!

It was great fun, exciting and even adventurous. There was water flowing over some of the crossing, many inches deep, and so we got to *splash* on through them; my shoes are still drying out.

The first half was uphill and so then the second half was downhill! I felt like I was flying, which probably explains my awesome personal record:

1:08 and some seconds

One of the best things was the people already running back while I was still on my way up the canyon: they cheered us on! Great fun.

To Miniskirt or Not to Miniskirt?

I tried on my old miniskirt last night; damn if it doesnt look great. But, yikes, am I already too old to pull it off, err, I mean, rock it? I dunno.

Anybody?

Half Marathon Training Report

I'm so close to 13 Miles I can taste it! Last weekend I ran 11.5 miles along the Elgin Rd in Arizona Wine Country. It was up in the high grassland plains, surrounded by mountains. It was so beautiful the miles just flew by and I had a great, yet slow, run.

So the half is in about 3 weeks and I'm getting more and more nervous. Getting 11.5 under my belt makes me feel much better, but still, I'm a slow runner, so even a couple miles "more to go" is nothing to sneeze at.

Cheers!
