Entry Disembowelment is No Fun if the Disembowlee is Laughing at You
Jul 04 2009 09:37

I dearly love my husband but there is a particular phrase he uses that sends me spinning into fits of annoyance.  It starts with "You're the one that..." and then ends with something I've said that means that his current behavior is ALL based on something I wanted somehow.  Anyway, he said that yesterday while he was lying on top of a foam roller right in the middle of my little desk/control pod area where I was trying to work.  I explained again, how that phrase just makes me want to gut him and etc etc and instead of striking fear into his heart, he started laughing and fell off the foam roller.  Which led to general hilarity all around but I bet he uses the same phrase again real soon.  Don't you just love marriage?

At any rate, the abovementioned control pod, a different phrase that I just love since I made it up at least in regard to my desk and computer area, has been completely broken down and moved to a storage unit.  It was located in the front room which we have never used as a living room, and we are going to be renting a sofa and table or some additional arrangement of furniture from the stager the real estate agent uses so it looks more like a living room.  In the meantime, I am sharing office space with Bill upstairs in his lair.  We got all my computer stuff moved up there, plugged in and tested.  We did a lot of boxing up and packing and sorting out - we basically didn't stop moving all day and didn't head out to the ranch till well nigh 8:00.  Holy cow, I was limp by the time I fell into bed - days like that you can't even begin to figure out a calorie burn.

Next week, we'll be getting the carpets cleaned and the real estate agent is arranging for someone to come out and wash all the windows and the walls for us - it's definitely an expense but I won't have time to do it and am glad to not have to.  We'll be able to focus on the other little things with packing up and getting the house ready for viewing.  We both felt that we got a huge amount done yesterday and were so glad that we hadn't changed much in the house over the last couple of years from the last time we tried to sell, it made it much easier this time.

Today, I'm going to take a little walk to the Red Gate and then spend the rest of the day re-organizing around here.  This house is less than half the space of the Bay Area house so it's really going to be tight.  Eventually, we'll be building an addition for a master bedroom and a workroom area but initially we'll just be cheek to jowl so thoughtful planning is going to be key.  I'm starting in the kitchen of course.

To celebrate the holiday, of course, we are having a BBQ.  I'm going to be grilling veggie burgers and corn on the cob and we're having watermelon for dessert.

Gratitude of the Day:  I am grateful for fading roses and house finch fledglings.

I am grateful for posts on the internet that make me smile when reading about others while undergoing the trials of moving can still retain a sense of humor.

I'm excited, just reading about your preparations for the future move! And--revelation! You can rent props to sell your house?! This whole staging thing is new; I think it's gradually catching on around here, but it always struck me as a novelty, on those "flip this house" type shows. And--you can hire people to wash windows and...walls?! Hmm...

"You're the one who" is definitely a guy thing. My hubby's spewed it more than once. Of course, we women have our own little "I told you so" type catch phrases, so fair is fair, I guess.

I was really preoccupied for a while there, trying to figure out why your husband was lying on a foam roller on your desk. Then I realized it was the desk area, which merely left me wondering about the foam roller. Best not to know, I decided. Smirk.
