Entry I Am My Body. I Am Not My Body. It's a Question.
Nov 04 2009 09:56

I just finished reading the novel "Breakfast with Buddha" by Roland Merullo - I liked this quote:

"There are people," he said,"who are past being hurt, beyond being hurt.  You should know this is true.  You should try to become one of those people, to make an understanding with yourself that you are not your body, that you are something bigger.  That is your work on this earth, do you see?  Every experience here is to teach you to do that.  Living, dying, every experience."

Not easy, but "This is not a world for easy."  Yes, I still identify myself strongly with my body.

The sawn end of a downed oak:

Gratitude of the Day:  I am grateful for oak trees.

A lesson in compassion, methinks

Loved that quote, the idea that you're so much more than a mere figure of flesh. My sister and I have never much needed to visit the graves of our parents because we both believe that the body is just, well, to sound cliche, a vessel that's no longer needed when the mind is gone (me because I believe in reincarnation, sis because she doesn't believe in anything), so it touches me that way, too.

Of course, one of my favorite bumper stickers is "In my next life, I'm coming back rich and skinny." Wink

And, of course--loved the image! You're so attuned to details, the patterns, textures, colors, and play of light on everyday things around you.
