I'm sure you're shocked to hear that we had a lovely bird walk yesterday. We saw 30 species, including two Downy Woodpeckers, which aren't common. Mostly we just see the Acorn WPs and flickers galore, so it's nice to see these little guys. We also watched a couple of interesting interactions between a golden eagle and a great blue heron (eagle seemed to be chasing) and the same eagle and a raven, where the raven harassed the eagle right out of the ravens' territory. Heh.
We ran into the King and Pelton horses on the way back home. Bill's cousin Karla had asked us the other night how King seemed to be doing, since he and Pelton seem to hang around our place as their preferred area. King is one of their older horses and is starting to have a hard time keeping on weight - he's looking a bit ribby now. I took a rib photo and sent it up to her so she can decide if she needs to catch him and give him extra feed in the form of Equine Senior. I also captured this lovely moment:

We made reservations yesterday for an overnight in Paso Robles as Bill has decided to go to his family's Thanksgiving celebration this year. I'm going to be bringing stuff so Bill and I can eat properly - of course I'll make enough to share, although I suspect it won't be as popular as the traditional fare. I think I also spy an opportunity to offload some membrillo...
Today, just regular work stuff.
Gratitude of the Day: I am grateful for sunny fall days.
I am still in disbelief that you went for a bird walk. How out of character. ;) Lovely picture! |
The day you say you had a disastrous bird walk is the day I start wondering if you've been checked into the looney bin! If the weather there was even only as nice as ours right now (and it's probably better), it was probably a stellar day to be out and roaming paradise! Beautiful silhouette of the two friends. |
You have one.
