Starting over

I completely fell off track with this Holiday season. I hosted dinner for Thanksgiving and also had a number of personal things that affected my focus. I'm starting to get back on track this week but have now changed my start date to January 1. I know, I know...not the best date to use, but I just can't deal with the pressure right now with Christmas coming up etc. I've been pretty good considering the parties I've been too, like sticking to the shrimp with just lemon, etc. but still...it's hard.

I also gave up my gym membership. I'm going to buy an elliptical for my apartment. I know myself too well and I just can't make it to the gym after work. I'm too exhausted. I have a demanding job and work until 7 each night. I tried going in the morning but it's a 20 minute trip to even get there. It's expensive initially, but I think the overall benefit outweighs the monetary con.

I'm thinking of doing a total body detox for 30 days. Not a crash diet, just fruits, veggies (raw and grilled), nuts, yogurt, egg whites and fish (steamed or grilled). No meat, chicken or any processed foods. Has anyone done anything like this?

Podfitness

So I signed up for podfitness (www.podfitness.com) to add walking workouts to my schedule. So far I'm in love, love, LOVE with this site! It customized workouts for your individual needs and will accomodate anything you like to do (weights, running, walking, etc.) It links up with your current itunes so you customize the music in the background of the workout. It's having a personal trainer in your ear basically . This weekend I started David Kirsch's customized walking workout and it was really effective. I came home after an hour and did lunges and squats with 3lb weights.

Still sticking to my swimming schedule which is good. So far I've only been able to do 3 days a week, but slowly trying to build to consistently 4 or 5 days a week. I'm also thinking of adding the hour walking workouts to my schedule M-Friday in the mornings to just build up my activity level to push my weight loss along.

I noticed that without changing my diet that I don't necessarily even eat unhealthy. Most of my days have been in the "A" range so it has to be just getting up and moving. I've lost 5lbs so far and can't wait to shed the additional 55 by Spring. My first mini goal is to lost 10% of my starting weight of 195, so to reach 175.5 by my third month...that's about .5 pound per week...I think I can do it! Funny, my first goal date is 1/1/2009

Sticking to my workout

I joined a masters swim team recently to help keep me on my workout track, the plan is to attend a regular 90 minute practice M-Thurs., so far so good. Walking the 3 days off from swimming to help keep moving. It is so tiring, but at the same time I just keep picturing a mental image of what I'll look like a year from now, even just three months from now if I stick to it. Surprisingly keeping in line with a healthy diet hasn't been a problem. When I think about it I never have really had poor eating habits, it's more of me not making time for excercise.

Anyway, it feels good to get out and finish a workout. I only plan to weigh in once a week, I feel like weighing yourself daily is borderline eating disorder behavior.

Weekend struggles

It's really hard to stay motivated on the weekends to get up and workout when all I really want to do is catch up on the sleep I miss from being so busy at work during the week. It's so much easier for me to stay focused on eating right during the week too because I'm on a set schedule...this is going to be tough
