Entry I "OTTER" BE IN BED .....
Jan 05 2009 00:18

I "otter" be in bed ... ...but I've been uploading photos from our vacation to Monterey. (We just got back tonight!) We were floating around the Bay near Cannery Row when we saw the cutest momma sea otter carrying a fuzzy baby on her tummy. We didn't get too close (didn't want to scare them), but I did get a few shots. More photos tomorrow (Monday)

Entry HUBBY HOME -- ENJOYING MY NEW CAMERA
Dec 19 2008 22:43

My wonderful DH is home from the frigid northwest, escaping out of Spokane just before the "Storm of the Century" hit! (They got 17 inches of snow in a 24-hour period, the most since 1881) I am soooo glad he's home -- even if it's only because the weather was too snowy and icy for them to safely fly any missions! YAY! So ... what's "winter" look like in my neck of the woods?

A "poofed up" mourning dove ...

A busy red squirrel ...

Some happy red house finches :

A tree full of gold finches!!!!

The kitties watch out the window ...

Smudge guards the snowman ...

Leaves are still falling ...

The mailbox is decorated for winter!

The grapefruit are ripening slowly ...

The flowers are still blooming :

Entry BACK FROM HAWAII -- AND HE'S LEAVING AGAIN
Dec 15 2008 00:07

We made it back safe-n-sound from Hawaii on Friday afternoon ... and pretty much just flopped on the bed, exhausted from the (much delayed) flights home. Of course, we were soon covered by cats, cats, and more cats!  For the past two days, we've pretty much just (a) done laundry; (b) done more laundry; (c) done even MORE laundry; (d) grocery shopping; (e) bird seed shopping; and (f) done more laundry, lol! (OK, that's what it felt like, anyway!)

This week here will be cold and wet and rainy, with temps in the 30s and 40s. My wonderful DH found out Friday that he's flying out Monday morning for some out-of-state "temporary duty" ... flying missions where it will be very cold and wintery and snowy! So today he's spent a lot of time checkiong weather reports and packing warm clothes.  My hope and prayer is that he will be home by Christmas ... but ya never know with the military.

Some highlights of our trip to Hawaii ...

The day we left (it was REALLY rainy!)

Some pretty orchids ...

A cute black-footed penguin ...

A nice beach view ...

Ron and the Honolulu skyline ...

ribbet, ribbet, ribbet ...

a pretty flower ...

the rainforest ...

gecko time!!!!

here fishy fishy fishy ...

turtles on a log!

a gorgeous crane

Ron has buffed up!

Banzai Pipeline ... BIG waves ...

a basking Hawaiian green sea turtle ... (north shore)

Pretty water !

Entry A very romantic day in Hawaii
Dec 10 2008 22:31

My wonderful DH Ron surprised me this morning with breakfast in bed! After a leisurely morning, we ventured next door to the lagoon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, where Ron rented one of those nifty floating bicycles for two (which I’d ALWAYS wanted to do!) We had a total blast pedaling and splashing around the lagoon! Next, we held hands and renewed our wedding vows in front of a pretty waterfall. (Happy sigh) Then he presented me with a gorgeous NEW wedding band ... channel set with five sparkly diamonds! Finally, he took me out for Teppanyaki steak, scallops and lobster at a really nice Japanese steak house. Oh, and there was a teddy bear, too! All in all, it was simply a delightful (and romantic), wonderful day.

We fly home tomorrow night, and should be in California by Friday morning.

Entry ALOHA
Dec 03 2008 13:38

Aloha! I had to check email, and wanted to post a quick hello  Getting here yesterday took FOREVER with multiple delays and a missing backpack (with computer and both cameras) -- but we located the missing backpack and all is well. (Prayers work!) Got to the hotel about 11pm and just collapsed. Oh, after chasing our first gecko around a bit! EEEEEEK!

This morning we went for a leisurely breakfast at this funky New York style deli nearby (my first and last foray into Pastrami Eggs Benedict!) ... then wandered around and did some shopping. And feeding birdies. They have the niftiest cardinals here ... little red heads! Took some photos next door of penguins, ducks and flamingoes. Think we will do the Aquarium later today and the pool and/or beach. (I have a new blue boogie board!) Weather is awesome ... mid 80s, partly cloudy.

Aloha!

Entry DECEMBER! DECEMBER! DECEMBER!!!!
Dec 01 2008 00:19

Just a reminder that we'll be in Hawaii for ten days in early December, so don't worry too much if you don't see me posting in my journal. My hope is that I'll be walking, snorkeling, swimming, sunning, shopping, playing and exploring -- instead! Don't worry, there will be oodles of photos when I return. In the meantime, here are some to get you into the Holiday Spirit!

Entry Quack Quack Quack
Nov 28 2008 22:20

We slept in a bit this morning, then went to the Valley Animal Center (our local, no-kill animal rescue facility) and helped facilitate the adoption of an adorable midnight-black kitten. YAY! Black cats and kittens can be hard to adopt out, so this was really a happy victory!  Then we headed over to a local feed store and bought 2 large bags of duck food (corn) and 1 large bag of sunflower seeds (finches). We stopped by the post office to mail some packages and to pick up my passport renewal application, then headed to a local park for some delightful duck feeding!  We grabbed lunch out, too.

We then went and got my passport photos taken (ok, I hate the photo, but didn't want to spend another $14 for a redo) .... then stopped by Marshall's to pick up a new table cloth for our kitchen table! All in all, it was a delightful day. After dinner we made a brief visit to Walmart for bird seed, protein bars, some sparkling water and batteries.  Weekend plans ... feeding birds.... laundry ... organizing and packing. (We leave Tuesday for vacation.)

Entry What's better than a trip to Hawaii????
Nov 26 2008 11:53

Ok, what's better than a 10-day trip to Hawaii Dec 2-12 with my wonderful DH, staying at the military resort on Waikiki on Oahu?

TWO TRIPS TO HAWAII!!!!!

Guess who just booked a trip Jan 20-28, 2009 to Maui so that I could go whale watching and see baby whales??? And black sand beaches!?!?

Yeppers, my wonderful DH.

He said that since we couldn't go to Hawaii again NEXT December (he'll be back in Iraq), he thought he'd just go ahead and book it for this January and get some primo whale watching!
