Entry Griffith Park hike
Jan 26 2009 19:38

The weather dampened our hair but not our spirits as Carol and I met for the first ever CC Calling Out to Women 50+ hike!  Along with 35 other people, we trekked up the trails to the top of Mt. Hollywood, then down to the Griffith Park observatory for lunch.

Carol was a real trooper.  She really struggled on some of the steep sections, but she took it at her own pace and made it to the top!  It was not an easy hike, and I'm glad Carol discovered she was capable of doing it, because I know she had her doubts.

Carol, I truly enjoyed meeting you.  You are my kind of woman - down-to-earth and a cat lover too!

Here we are in the parking lot before starting out:

Later the clouds lifted and gave us nice views of Los Angeles below:

I am so glad you had a good time together, we shuld all get together one day when we reach ur goals, i never realized L/A was so flat, almost inside the valley eh??

To bad it rained though, probably would have been more fun in the sun??  Did you and Carol have much in common??

Does your husband go on the trails with you, or are you single?  I don't recall if you mentioned any kids??  It's not nosiness i just have a better perspective and memory if i know a little more about everyone, no i am not writing a book, just interested??

Great pics, i am glad you 2 met, how far do you live apart??

Carol and I live about 3.5 hours apart.   We have a lot in common besides our age and gender Smile  We both work for county government (different counties) and our jobs both have to do with database management and programming.  We both have cats too.

You will probably remember when I tell you - I am married and have a 15 y.o. son, who seems to have a lot in common with your son Kyle (what boy that age doesn't?)  My husband doesn't hike very much but he walks the course when he plays golf.  He has arthritis in his big toes which bothers him a lot when he walks too much.

Yes, LA is in a flat valley.  It is HUGE - seems to go forever.  It has mountains to the north and a few hills throughout.

Awesome pics!!!! So glad you 2 were able to get together and hike and that Carol was able to complete the hike even with her doubts!!! Sometimes we can accomplish way more than we think we are capable of.

The view of Los Angeles reminds me of our view of Honolulu when we went to Hawaii!!

Does your son ever go on the hikes with you? I walk when I play golf too Winkgreat exercise!

Love the pic of the clouds over LA! How often do you get to see something like that, considering it NEVER rains in Southern California, well, in the song anyway Wink
