Normally I would be leaving for my clinic. Since I can't run I am taking it easy tonight. I have my heating pad on high and I am planning on doing some stretching in a little while.

I managed to fix D's work laptop Internet connection. Her work has so much security that it blocks the good stuff too.

My daughter is out on a date with an new guy. He dropped in and was very nice. He is tri athleteso that is one point in his favor.

Back home after a great trip with D

Well I am back home watching TV and checking out things on the Internet.

I think I spent more money than D! this time. There was so many sales and some really great deals on cloths. Managed to get a suite, two shirts and two ties for under 140$. That's less than 1/2 what I payed for for my last suite.

As usual, we got a bunch of chicken and ground turkey. It is about 75% cheaper than what we can get here. We bought enough to pay for our hotel room. Bought the meat at Price Chopper so we were able to get our gasoline for 1.89 a gallon. (it is about 3.20 at home)

I have a pair of pants that need shorting. I plan on waring my new suite tomorrow.

In the Great USA

D and I got away from Ottawa at 3:30pm and by 5:15pm we were in the US. Had a great dinner out and have our morning planned out for tomorrow. I am going to see if I can get some under armor for a decent price. Will see.

Mr Fixit

D went to visit her father since we will be away this weekend. That left me on my own for dinner as my daughter was at school studying.

Got out of work later but still managed to get 5km done before the street lights went on. Total of 10.5km in 55 minutes. Not great but not bad for a training run.

The satalite did not work again tonight. I went out in the back yard to check and make sure that it wasn't covered with snow. Turns out that the connection in the basement was loose. Not sure how that happened.

Next up was the dryer. It took about 3 minutes to replace the element and about 20 minutes to but everything back together. Now all I have to do is about 5 loads of laundry before tomorrow.

run downtown to home

I had a meeting at the end of day down town. I arranged for one of my coworkers to bring my sports back back to work tomorrow so I was able to run from City Hall back home. One of the great things about living in the Nation's Capital is that you have some beautiful parks and trails in the city. City Hall is only 1/2 a block from the Rideau Canal. The longest skating rink in the world.

I ran along the 6km stretch and then took the parkway the remainder of the way home. 14.5km in 1 hour 20 minutes which isn't bad for a training run. Did I mention that most of the run is on a gentle grade up hill.

D got the parts for the dishwasher and dryer. 88$ for both parts. At least I don't have to pay for the service call.

Well I have only one more run at home before we head to the US for D's shopping tour. I am going to get up early and run before before she gets up. Then we will go shopping. The walking should help keep everything loose.

55 days until Boston

I have been experimenting with google sites website development tool. So far my website it looks pretty ugly but it is fun to see what what you can do. One of the google gadgets is a count down counter. You enter the end date and then it will show how many days left. I set up one for Boston so I always know how many days of training I have left. 55 days! I am not sure if it is relief, excitement, or dread I am feeling.

Tonight's clinic we had a massage therapist speak. She worked with Olympic athletes. She showed us how to stretch most of the major muscles. Even though I have heard the talk before it was a great refresher. I have to do more stretching of my quads. I think it will help my knee. I know the massage really helped on Monday. Since my insurance will pay for about 14 visits I am going to book an appointment every two weeks from now until a week after Boston.

I have been thinking about my next challenge after Boston. I would like to avoid the lost feeling I felt after finishing my last marathon. Without knowing what I was going to do next, it took some time to get back into the training mode. This time I am going to try something a little different. I am going to train for an Ultra. My objective will be to run from my home to my in-law's 56km or from my cottage to my dad's 61km. The second option would be a bigger challenge as it farther and hillier. Since I need to have at least 6 months after my marathon, to recover, I want to do my challenge the weekend before Thanks Giving; October 4th. I will determine which route and what my time goal will be closer to the challenge date.

D got the parts ordered for the dryer and dishwasher. Tomorrow I well be doing appliance repair. To fix the dryer (replace the element) I had to take the front off, top off and remove the drum. I use to fix my mother's old dryer and it was a very simple. All you had to do is take the back off and replace the element. No dis-assembly required. To replace the element in this one means pulling everything apart. That's progress!

Massage

This morning I went and had a sports massage. I it wasn't a day at the spa but after he got done working me over my legs haven't felt so good in a long time. The best part is my insurance covers the entire cost. I am going to book a massage every two weeks between now and 1 week after Boston. The biggest problem is getting to the appointment as I can't put my car on the road until April.

Even thought I only have about 500km logged on my running shoes I am going to retire them. Hopefully a new pair will be ok. If they don't feel right, I will try and pick up some new shoes when I am down in the States this weekend.

Just got my Kia back from the break shop. Another big bill for breaks. You shouldn't have to have breaks fixed 3 time with only 90,000 km on the dial.

32k and still standing

I wasn't sure how my LSD run was going to go given I painted all day yesterday but it was great. To get my 32km in, I started my run at 7:25am, ran 11.5km, got to the meeting point about 1 minute before every started to go, ran 16 km with the group and then finished by running a 5km route back home.

It snowed last night so running on some roads and sidewalks was harder than normal. My legs feel it a bit.

My clinic instructor said that taking a cold bath after a run helps flush the lactic acid from your legs. I tried it but I don't think it helped much so far. (It was not fun!) Tomorrow I have an appointment at 8:00am to have a sports massage. I can't wait.

Next week I have another long run to do. Hopefully the weather will be cooperate.

Paint Saturday

I have been off my game since Wed. Friday I went to my sister-in-laws and helped paint her main floor ceiling. She has an open concept hours so you have to paint almost the entire first floor because there are no walls to break the rooms up. Saturday I started the day off at 7:00am with a 10.5km run around Arnprior and Braeside. The Braeside hill is a nice hill training hill because it is about a km long and the last 1/3 is much steeper than the first 2/3s.

We finished painting at about 5:30pm so I am now taking it easy while the ladies talk about the next home project. I feel like they are talking about me right now! I bet I am going to be using power tools next.

Later this evening we are going into the hot tub. I can't wait to stretch because tomorrow I have a 32km planned. Hopefully the weather holds as we are forcasted to get 10cm of snow starting tonight.

Update: Just got back from the hot tub. I miss my hot tub. It is so relaxing to set in the steaming swerling water and stretch. I might have to come back tomorrow after my run to stretch.

Birthday

Well it is my 48th birthday today. I can't believe how fast the year went. Speaking of time I am late for work. BBL.

Update: Getting ready for my clinic tonight. After the discussion on injury prevention we are going to run 10km tempo run. Can't wait! After my run, D is picking me up and we are going pickup Thai for dinner. Decided against going out because it would be very late before we ate.

Can't wait to see what I get for my birthday!
