Entry Bummer, dude

I took last week off from the Couch to 5k program to give my knee a rest.  Since my knee hasn't hurt a bit all week I was hopeful that I'd be fine.  So today I decided to get back on the treadmill and give it another try.

Alas.  About thirty seconds after I put on my running shoes, my knee started hurting and I hadn't even finished filling up my water bottle yet, let alone started running.  Hmmm, could that be a clue as to the cause of my problems?  But I went through with the workout anyway.

It did not go well.  My knee didn't really hurt all that much, although it was tender.  But between being hyperconscious of my gait and trying to run "properly" and the fact that I could feel a blister forming on my other heel and so was trying not to let my shoe rub too much on that foot, I was running about as gracefully as a narcoleptic jellyfish.

It was ugly.

I've decided to lose some weight before I start running again and I'll wait until Christmas when I will suggest (aka withhold all Christmas cookies until my parents agree to my demands) that I get a nice big gift certificate to Gazelle Sports so I can get good shoes.

Back to Turbo Jam for me, which I really enjoy so that's no biggie.

Other than that, I helped my mom can tomatoes and pickled beets this weekend but didn't accomplish anything else on my windows.

Actually, I think a narcoleptic jellyfish would be quite graceful.

LAF!  Withold Cookies!!  That would get me to do anything.

Hey Pav-Cat. I bet you canned a pile of produce with your mom. I'm sure she appreciated all your help. *thinks maybe there is an ulterior motive, such as home made dinners at Mom's house*

narcoleptic jellyfish, eh?  Don't they mostly look asleep anyway?

It sounds cool to say, anyway.

When I look at myself on the treadmill (which is hard NOT to do, since the gym has mirrored walls, and the treadmills face them), I look like the hippo from Madagascar.  "I like 'em big.  I like 'em chunky!"

Nu-uh buggy!  I am actually the one to bring my parents home-cooked meals.  My dad's idea of homemade is hot dogs and mac&cheese.  My mom's version is more pot roast and mashed potatoes, but she never has the energy to make it.

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
