(Logged on the morning of the 5th, hence why I'm talking about "today" as if it was "yesterday" Even though I did lots of weeding at work, and lost of walking around carrying heavy grocery bags...
I think I'm eating too much.
I'm worried I'm not burning as much as I think, and that I'm eating more than I should be and that THAT is why I'm gaining weight.
Or was, don't know if I've started gaining weight this month or not.
I was 65.5kg again yesterday.
So I'm thinking all the weight gain is just water weight.
Since I always drop back to 65.5kg (144 pounds) during my period.
So far I did well to stay at 65.5kg until yesterday, since that's 4 days after my period stopped.
Usually by then I'm back to 68kg.
This morning (5th of august) I'm feeling bloated though.
From those pesky beans I ate yesterday, still!
Kind of ridiculous really.
It's so stupid... It's like, what am I supposed to eat?!
Only having red lentils as a protein source gets reeeally boring reeeeally fast.
Plus I'm sick of the flavour of them.
Eggs make me feel sick.
Beans make me terribly bloated and gassy.
Red Lentils make me feel nauseous just thinking about them.
And I can only eat so many tofu sausages before I start disliking the texture!
:( Though to be fair the thought of any food of any sort is making me nauseous lately.
I was worried I was pregnant -dispite getting my period as usual- but Matt has it now too, and also has the "feeling hungry but the thought of any food makes him nauseous".
So hopefully I just have a bug!
Mines lasted for ages... over 2 weeks.
My immune system is shot from taking so many antibiotics, it doesn't know how to do anything anymore.
I can just imagine my lazy little white blood cells suddenly becoming stoners sitting around going, "Whaaat? duuuude, what is that? oh my god it's looking at me *stares at evil cells multiplying in my stomach lining*"
Second White Blood Cell: "Chill man, just rellaaaaax, the antibio-dudes will get rid of it, we're sweeeet."

*sigh*

What can you do to kick your body back into repairing itself??
... I should be asking my mother that, she'll know.
Problem is I have to take antibiotics so frequently that it feels pointless because I will just have to take them again and then my bodies own healing abilities will be reduced to zilch again.

*sigh* anyway.
Food wise, I've forgotten how to make low calorie, highly filling foods.
Maybe it'll be better in summer when more of the watery veggies come back, like courgette.
And tomatoes.
But right now it's all hearty stuff, and it seems so high in calories.
I feel more satisfied when eating just sandwiches at work, so it's hard to feel encouraged to eat more nuritional food.

:) Babble end.

It will get better! You seem to be doing pretty well despite evreything!@

Can you look up recipes relatively low calorie even with the hearty stuff?

I eat a lot of tofu these days for protein...that helps some.

Mmm, raspberries. They are my all-time favourite fruit, but I haven't had any in ages. Where did you get the deceptively delicious muffins from? I haven't heard of them before but it sounds like a good way to eat something healthy that's still a nice sweet treat :)

Vege food also makes me bloated, but I seem to be able to counteract it pretty well by drinking a tonne of water.

I have been doing pretty badly with my eating-less-meat goal (especially since I've been trying to up the protein, I have to say it's kinda gone out the window) but... hmm. Have you tried quinoa? My sprouted-grain bread has 4g of protein per slice, which is pretty good. You could also go back to those smoothies you were having for breakfast? They sounded pretty good lol.

With your immune system... that's a hard one. You could try probiotic yoghurts to help the good bacteria grow, but you'd have to keep taking them all the time to counteract the antibiotics. Haha, ok so I have no real ideas on that front, better ask your Mum! :)

Can't have pro-biotic yogurt. :( Lactose.
Would upset my stomach more.
Bleh, something I ate really screwed me up.
I am feeling soooo bloated today.
It's just so damn uncomfortable!

I'm not sure if it was the chickpeas I had for lunch today, the chocolate yogurt i had for breakfast, or the soy drink i drank when I got home.
Grr, is basic health too much to ask for???

It's really discouraging because even when I eat well, I still have SO many problems!

*Sigh* anyway, Deceptively Delicious is a book, it is all about hiding vegetable and fruit purees in food.
It was on Oprah once.
Some actors wife wrote it.
Some of the recipes are really good.
My Boss uses it to smuggle fruit and vegetables into her son, 'cause he's so fussy.
I can IM you the recipe for the spinach and blueberry muffins if you want?

I haven't tried quinoa, I haven't seen it before.

Isami, I can, but it's just hard.
I could go back to having soup but that would mean I would want bread with it too.
I dunno, might make soup of tomorrow.
Doesn't envolve too much cooking and i'm tired too...

Sorry to hear you arent feeling well again. That sucks! HGope you feel better soon!

About protein and digestion- protein is much harder to digest- thats why they say it stays in your stomach and keeps you feeling full longer than carbs. Soy protein suits me in some forms- I do OK with tofu but not with soy milk- that really makes me feel bloated.

Do you soak your own beans? Both chickpeas and baked beans can cause gas, discomfort and bloating if you eat them from a can. I usually soak dry beans overnight and then wash them in several changes of water before I pressure cook them. I read somewhere that washing them off really helps get rid of the gas-producing elements. Nowadays with canned chickpeas too, I take them out of the can and soak them in clean cold water before adding them to anything.  That seems to help. With baked beans: try soaking, washing and cooking cannelini beans; then make a sauce with tomato puree, a little vinegar, sugar and salt (you can add herbs too if you want) and then adding the beans to the sauce and boiling it for a bit. If you do it in the evening, the beans should absorb the flavour by the next day.

Too much milk (regular or soy) in the morning also seems to upset my stomach- thats why I am not into cereal or very milky porridge.

I usually try and get a little carbs with my protein at every meal, along with some vegetable/ fruit for fiber- that minimizes the gas/bloating issues.

In India, we also have some natural supplements that aid digestion- I roast and grind a little cumin with black salt, asafoetida, and something called bishop's weed (ajwain in most Indian stores). I add a little sugar because otherwise the whole thing can be quite strong. Anther natural digestive aid is fresh mint leaves and ginger (tea, for example).

Sorry this is so long- hope its of some help!

I think people who like being vegetarian arent too used to dealing with a lot of protein at once!

Thanks for the advice, Isami.
I've had digestive problems my whole life so it's not easy to begin with.

I do soak my own beans, when I can get hold of the dry beans.
I can't find dried beans anywhere in the supermarket!
Rarely find lentils either.
So I have resorted to buying canned chickpeas.
I got the white beans for the home-made baked beans from the farmers market though.
I soaked them in water with lemon juice, as they are supposed to be easier to digest if soaked in something acidic.
But I guess it didn't help me.

It could be partially hormonal.
I have been gainined weight as soon as my period finishes for the past 3 months.
I always drop back down to 65.5kg half way through my period, but really... few days after it stops and my weight skyrockets!

Amazingly, I was only 66.2kg this morning, instead of 66.4 like I was yesterday.
