Prime Minister Stephen Harper has called for a federal election on October 14th. Harper met with Governor General Michaelle Jean to request to dissolution of Parliament.
Don't you wish the US would do this sometimes instead of dragging out for years the election process - and then not only that but this stupid electoral college bs we have here in the states just makes small states even more invisible. Seems like PA, CA , MI and FL are the only states that need to vote, |
it would be nice if we could get it all done in 6 weeks.... I envy you for that part of Canadian democracy |
Already? Already? But I thought the election would be called this afternoon! I'm not ready yet! |
Doesn't that sort of thing happen every few months over there? It sure seems like it. |
Ok. I'm a little rusty on my Canadian politics. Are you saying that the Prime Minister can call for a disolution of Parliament whenever he wants to? Or just once? Sorry. To mentally exhausted to do research right now. |
The Prime Minister can call for the dissolution of Parliament whenever he wants to.... except that Prime Minister Harper just sponsored a law requiring fixed dates for elections. I guess that it's not binding since it's not a constitutional amendment, but it's pretty bizarre to see Harper ignoring his own reforms like that. |
