Last Friday morning about 1/2 through my work shift I started feeling really bad. I had eaten lunch at 1 am. About 230 I got an almond joy candy bar. I was having trouble concintrating, shaking, sweating, light headed, sick to my stomach and feeling like i was going to pass out. This was just before 5. My co-worker took my blood sugar and it was 82. She insisted I drink some OJ. After about 20 min I was feeling better and went back to working, it was then my fingertips went numb. This freaked me out. Ive never had that happen before.
I went to my dr. later that day. They did a finger poke and my sugar was 69 at 430 pm. She wanted me to go back for a gluclose tolerance test.
On Sunday hubby and I had breakfast about 11 am and left the house. By 230 I was once again having trouble concentraing, shaking and feeling lightheaded. I ate a couple of chicken soft tacos and felt better not long after.
Monday I went for the Gluclose tolerance test. I didn't have anything to eat or drink (not even water) from 10 pm the night before. at 915 the first draw was ..... Second draw was 1015 ...... third was at 1115..... all these numbers are in the normal range. (I hate that i cant think of the numbers right now. I'll add them later if i can think of them or when i can find them out.) Why the heck am I getting symptoms of being hypoglycemic when my #'s are in the normal range?
Thankfully I don't think I am diabetic because of the gluclose tolerence test, but I'll find out from the Dr. when I see her. I'm just waiting for the other labwork from Fri. to come back before I go back to see her.
I know with my risk factors that I will get diabetes some time in my life. I know that if I lose some weight it will delay my getting it. I know that exercising will help me with the ostoporisis. I know that I need to watch my calorie intake, what im eating and exercise to do this. So what is wrong that I cant seem to do it?
I've had that very same thing since I was about 11 years old. Diabetes runs in my family and my Dad couldn't get into the military because he was "pre-diabetic." He had the same shaky, confused, light headedness, etc that I have. I even had the numbness in my finger tips (though that was a recent symptom). I've just recently found the only thing that stops it from happening is eating low carb. I don't eat anything starchy. All the symptoms went away within a day. I swear. It's quite amazing really. I also have more energy now than I used too. That's probably because my blood sugar is stable (no ups and downs). I know I'm just a stranger who happened upon your journal through the side bar thingy, but I implore you to try low carb for just a month to see if it helps. Honestly, you should notice a huge difference in a day or two. When you feel bad like that do you just grab the whatever food is available and start shoveling it in? I did, as it was the only thing to make all bad feelings go away. Then I'd be hungry again a few hours later. Then the cycle would start over.... All of that is gone now. What we have is a form of insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia. Have you heard of metabolic syndrome? I think reading up on those three things will help you out quite a bit. If you do take my advice and try low carb please let me know how it goes for you. Thanks. |
