So earlier this week, Wednesday actually, I decided on a new step goal (I think I like that term, but I'm still open to changing it). My overarching goal of course is to be healthy, fit and trim (which I'm not particularly at this point, though I'm definitely "-er" than I used to be). Eating below my maintenance weight is of course the first "step goal" that I've basically gotten pretty good at over the past six months...
WOW! I just realized it's been six months since I started eating lighter! Yay me!!!
Anyway, my new "step goal" is to walk 10 flights of steps every day I go to work. Typically this would be M-F, since I have a regular 40 hr/wk job, but I'm giving myself an out on Holidays, Sick Days, etc.
I timed myself on Wednesday, and going up one flight of stairs takes me about 30 seconds, so ten flights ends up being five minutes of "up stairs" activity. Five minutes on the stairs actually burns more calories for me than a 10 minute work break walk! Cool!
I have now "stepped up" to my step goal every day this week since setting it, Thursday and Friday. Good Job, me!
Let's see how I do Monday when I'm dragging my briefcase, laptop, and lunch along...

Thanks for the post in my journal! It really helps to know other people are in the same place as me. Now- did I read that right? 10 flights of stairs! That is a great idea....and great exercise. Maybe I should try going up my one flight at home a few more times to get some extra exercise. |
Hi Sunnyone! So many of us out here on CC are in exactly the same place! That's what makes this such a great community to be a part of. I know it's helped me a lot. And yes, you totally did read that right, ten flights! I'm really kicking butt on this one too! I only fell short of my goal on two days, and only by one or two flights. This is completely amazing to me because this time last year I was still recovering from messing up my knee so much that I could barely walk down the hall, let alone up a single flight of stairs! Hooray!
