A note to my SS, a little about a gin-soaked Saturday night, and Insanity.
Dec 07 2009 10:11
Dear SS giftee, you may expect a package in 1-4 business days. Hope you likey.
Today is Big Sis's 30th birthday. We went out to celebrate Saturday night. We started the night with a stop at Sis' DH's uncle's house, who was having an xmas party with drinks and food. We spent about an hour there, snacking and relaxing. Then at 8pm we went to Chaplin's, a stand-up comedy club. It was a lot of fun. Then we went to this place called Orleans, where there was more drinking, pool, and I tried to teach Sis how to play the dart game Cricket. She probably would have done better if she still had hand-eye coordination at that point.
Our last stop of the evening was Coyote's, where we caught the last five or six songs of the live band, which was named The Other White Meat. They were really good, actually. They have a myspace page, so check it out if you get a chance. They gave a tambourine to Sis and a pair of maracas to me and let us sing backup on Pat Benatar's Hit Me With You Best Shot. :) Then the bartender kicked us out at 1am 'cause she wanted to close up. Wench! j/k. Then we dropped everyone back at Sis' house (K was the designated driver) and we went home.
My Insanity package arrived (ironically) last week with Pav's gift. I've read the guide and nutrition book and taken the fit test. I think I performed average for a beginner in reasonably good shape. The fit test itself was nuts, which is probably indicative for the entire program. I had beads of sweat rolling off my face halfway through it, and the test is only about 20 minutes long!
Insanty: Apropriately named.
The nutrition guide is nice. I get around 1500 calories per day to start with and will tweak as needed. It's not a crazy diet either, and not dissimilar from how I've been eating. So it will be five meals a day, around 300 cals per meal. The first real workout is tomorrow. Am looking forward to it.
12-0!!! Black and Gold to the Superbowl!!!!!!

So who got to watch my Saints yesterday? Pretty awesome, right? My city is really hyped up right now. I was @ a sports bar about to walk out cause there was just over 2 minutes and my team was down 7. And how about that Meachum? I never really had a team I cared about in football till the last couple years. Its really grown on me. I used to love basketball...basketball? Haven't watched a game in a couple months now.
Anyways, I've been eating OK, maintaining my sexy the best I can.
I'm going to the gym tonight for the first time since I hurt my hand. I wonder how many push-ups I've been demoted to.
Breakfast:
Cinnamon raisin english muffin with smart balance (1/2 tsp) 200
Dannon light n fit strawberry 100
Lower sodium turkey bacon (2 slices) 50
Snack 1:
Yogurt (I bought a lot of it): 140
Lunch:
Healthy choice Pot stickers: 380
Snack 2:
Protein bar (SM again): 290
Total before dinner: 1160
Calories left for dinner: about 500. Lots of vegetables...
dessert: about 240. I may stop by TCBY. I am aiming to maintain for a few weeks. Starting by going to 1900 this week, and then up to 2100.
I couldn't resist....wardrobe update:
A weird shaped brown velvet hat, a brown velvet long sleeved shirt
, cream colored tight pants???, and brown boots with some type of split on the back of them. How can you expect to be taken seriously? LMBO.
Yesterday I ran a little bit for the first time since June. About 8 minutes or so. It wasn't that hard, so I am sure I can run at least a mile or two if I really try. Baby steps. I will listen to my hip.
The violin players were both nice girls very laid back. We met at one of their houses, and will again on Tuesday. We need lots of practice, cause we have all been playing solo for awhile. But its all in fun for now. On Tuesday, one of the girls will cook some dinner so that we can eat and practice.
Me and my mom had one akward conversation last week. I am not letting it get to me as much. I gotta set boundaries in my life as far as what I do for others.
God is good.

I am finally meeting the violinists today. I just finished practicing for about an hour or so, the first time I have played since I hurt my hand. They both sound like really nice girls and I am really looking forward to it.
Its Friday!!!!!!!

I told myself that I am taking today off from cleaning. Last night I got the kitchen in order, as well as my room. All that is left is to organize my closet this weekend, and clean my car. I feel so accomplished.
I think Poncho is liking the new place, since my room is much bigger and there is a new area to explore outside.
I am going to meet up with my friend (the one I had been growing apart from) and this other guy I met at a church thing to watch the Saints go 12-0 @ the bar that is by my old place. It is closer to them. They have the best quesadillas there. I always get chicken, so I think I will try steak.
For breakfast I had: An Orowheat cinnamon raisin english muffin (so good, and soft) toasted with some smart balance- About 200 cals including the smart balance and 3 slices of low sodium turkey bacon. Total: 275
My snack will be : Vanilla yogurt in about an hour: 140
Lunch: Smart ones spaghetti with meat sauce: 310
Afternoon snack: Snickers marathon protein bar (not the best one for me, just OK, but I am addicted): 295
Dinner: TBD, but I will have lots of vegetables, since my day is lacking in that department. I have about 880 cals left for that and dessert to get to my goal. I think it is so ingrained in me to eat about 1500, this extra 400 is...kinda hard to remember to get in. I think I just need a really big breakfast. I did eat about 800 cals last night, cause I made a homemade pizza. It was good. I will have dessert tonight too.
My Big Fat Panettone Review
Dec 04 2009 08:11
Kate, you asked for a review!
I got home from work yesterday, and K had already been to the post office. Sitting on the dining room table was a purple box.
Within the box was pretty tissue paper, a beautiful card featuring my various woodland friends, and....
and..
and..
SCRUMPTIOUS EDIBLE NOMS OF THE HIGHEST CALIBER. OH MY DOG.
What was the twisty braidy thing that was sprinkled with sugar? Almond Blankie? That stuff's a winner, whatever it was. Wow. The filling? I could eat it out of a bowl like pudding.
AND THEN, OH FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS. I unveiled the panettone cake. IT IS A THING OF BEAUTY. It is so fragrant. Tender pastry, not stiff like the store bought kind. Soft raisins, bits of citron, with a delicate flavor of lemon all through. And it was even in that wax paper cup thingie that panettones are baked in! I love the carmelized raisins in the bottom of the cup...mmmm. So, Kate, you get a huge freakin' A +!!!
(i ate about 1/4 of it last night)
Thank you, Pav! You really made my week :)
Happy Thursday
Dec 03 2009 08:06
I was happy this morning for two reasons:
A. I decided to stop being a pansy and get on the scale. I was 147
. I did not gain a single pound over the holidays. I guess all the walking and moving cancelled out the bad eating. I do want to start eating better now though. I went to Wal-Mart and got food last night.
B. I am now a tight 4/loose-comfortable 6. Once I lose the last 7 lbs, the 4s should be perfect. I am not weighing in for a few more weeks. but I am going to do everything as well as I can. As soon as I am all moved in, I am going to start going to the gym across the street.
Some guy tapped my bumper on the way to work. Thank God there was no damage. I don't have time for that.
Poncho is doing better. Following me everywhere, but less frantic acting and he seems to realize this is our new place, especially since most of our things are unpacked. And he loves the big grassy area (nearly a mile long) next to the water behind it, where I can walk him now.
I love my room! The TV and internet are already set up. I want to buy a few new pieces of furniture, cause my room is HUGE!

So, the power was still not on after I got home. I packed up some stuff, and me and my roommate stayed @ a hotel. She works @ the sister hotel, so we got it for $23 for the night.
Lows of yesterday:
- It was cold and there was no power.
- Not much of a way to eat right. We ordered lasagna from this Italian place. I only ate half, along with a lot of lettuce though
- Poncho is extra clingy and having a hard time adjusting to all the changes. Can't wait to get him settled in
- Family is still not speaking to me
Highs of yesterday:
- My friend who I have mentioned before, the one who has drifted away since dating this guy responded to an email I sent her. She sent me a message that was 5 paragraphs long, apologizing for not being much of a friend and we had a little back and forth. We are supposed to hang out this weekend.
- I am getting along better with my roommate and I have a few other friends I realize are in the same boat as me and want more friends.
- The guy who is trying to help me get a job told me about another opening and recommended me to his boss. I filled out the application yesterday.
- The power should be on today.
I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday.
Moving day has passed
Dec 01 2009 08:08
And I am so glad about that. I HATE moving. I got in from Houston and then it was grind time. Our power is still not on at the condo. Hoping that changes by tonight. And silly me...I let my bf talk me into a 8 mile hike Sunday....surprisingly I'm not in too much pain. But I won't do that again the day b4 moving. I had a great time though. My bf took us out to eat at the woodlands, and we went to do laser tag and arcade games. We also went to a potluck (Saturday) We both got really moody when it was time for me to go, but I am so proud of us for making it to 1 year!
My hand is unwrapped for the first time today. It is still bruised looking, but the wound finally closed this weekend.
As far as maintenance goes...I think I am probably close to the right cals, but content wise...my food has been a mess between the holidays and moving. I plan on going groccery shopping in a couple days. But for now, I'm going to do what I have to do. I won't weight myself for another week. I hope I am around 146 when I do. But I can fit some of my size 4s and my size 26 pants from Abercrombie. Granted, they are a little bit tight, but my other option is pants that are 1-2 sizes too big and fall off, and I don't have muffin top, so I guess they will just have to be form fitting for a month or two
.
She had a heart like a collapse of constellations.

Christmas shopping is done, ai buhleeve. Just need to start wrapping now :)
We were invited to E & J's for dinner yesterday (k's surrogate parents, the ones who came to our rescue when the truck wouldn't start in the store parking lot). It was their thanksgiving. They had spent the actual day in Kentucky with J's family. They got back this weekend and had dinner with J's daughter & family, J's sister and husband, me and K, another quasi-adopted couple and the thirty or so children between all of us ;)
It was loud and messy and quite good fun. I demolished my diet yet again, but am trying to not beat myself up about it, since I do get up every single day and work out. I know I can afford a cheat meal a couple times a week, just a little bit of guilt is still there.
Bah. Chocolate cream pie is totally worth the guilt.
Anyways, they have two new kittens. I almost stole the fat fuzzy gray one. I'm pretty sure I could have snuck her out under my coat. I restrained myself, however.
K ordered me Insanity from Beachbody for Christmas! It looks like the kind of workout that makes you puke halfway thru!
Oh, and we got a Snuggie for Dad's GF for christmas. Tiger striped. Classy ;)
