Dec 10 2009 18:13
hi guys! :D NO... i'm not hiding out misbehaving... lol i know, i haven't posted in a while. sorry about that.
i got my stepper back! finally!!! i haven't used it a whole lot yet, but yeah, it sure is awesome to have it back! i only do about 4 minutes at a time & that's good enough for me.
i got a new cellphone, too. it's really cool! the enV touch! i have web now because i had to get it to get the phone. it's pretty cool, though. i'm using it alot! i sure wish i could go on CC with it. all you can do on CC is the food finder. like i need that... hehe
i'm trying to maintain at 129, but i think 128 is a little bit sweeter. LOL come on! i started at 218 & that's the same numbers, just all switched around. :D it's funny, though. i don't go up & down anymore. i go down & back up! i guess because i purposely go back up. like today, i was 126, so i'm eating alot! i'm still doing my hour & 15 minutes of activity daily. after working til 10 yesterday, it got so late that i only got in an hour & it was midnight, so my watch changed to the new day. i'm a little behind today, too, but i'm gonna be out there shoveling soon... :( stupid snow!!!
today was my day off & i got up at 8, got called in & practically ran out the door. wth all the stupid snow, i couldn't even make it back up the street when i came home, so i'm parked on the next street waiting for hubby to hopefully get home safe & help me get my car home! i gotta work at 9am tomorrow! oh! i couldn't even see anything when i was driving, either!!! i thought i was gonna die about 100 times & rite aid is only .7 miles away!!! LOL it was horrible... :(
oh well, tomorrow is a new day! :D
i miss you all really bad!!! i haven't even been reading the journals lately, because my computer has been acting up a lot worse than usual. it's working great right now! i hope it keeps working like this!
make sure you all behave for me, ok?! hey, you know you can do it! :D come on now, get up & get moving! do something, anything! it's all good. anything is better than nothing, remember?
maybe you can grab a fruit or something healthy, too? ;)
when you are tempted to eat something bad or too much food, look at it & think to yourself, 'nah, thin tastes better than that.' don't eat it & be proud!!! Woot! Woot! hey, it might work... just try it, ok?
freakin' lousy snow... uggghhhhh!!!

Working, Not Much Time
Dec 10 2009 16:18
The pace picked up on this week when my former full time employer needed me to work to catch her up on some things, so I've had to adjust to a lot less time for me. I became somewhat spoiled this year as I was trying to reinvent myself.
I actually attended community college from Jan 5 - May 4, then took an online class in Microsoft Access, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel from May 18-Aug4, went to the beach for a week at the 4th of July, and during this time, worked for my former full-time maybe 8-10 hours a week.
She's picked up the pace some recently. I have been drawing unemployment since the end of January which helped keep us current with obligations. It ended Nov 14.
I received a letter in the mail today stating that President Obama wanted us to go to school and we may qualifiy for aid. whahoo.
I don't have any reason to complain whatsoever. We are making it with my husband's salary, though we had to cut all frills and anything that wasn't a must.
So much for all that. I have to get back to work completing the ads for the next real estate book. (due today)
I am hovering around 220 right now. Normal for me after about 4-6 months of keeping track.
I am still encouraged and motivated, though I must increase the variety of my diet soon as I am getting bored with it.
I must not forget that I'm in this for the duration.
cold morning maf test
Dec 10 2009 11:08
173.0! Scale moved in the right direction.
Good run - 5.1 max aerobic func (maf) test (hr=107) this am. 23F, lt wind, wind chill 16F! loved it. Actually overdressed and felt a bit to warm in mi 4 & 5. Wore compression shorts, Under Armour fitted pants, sht slv compression shirt, lng slv Layer 8 1/4 zipr mock turtle, Bolle 1/4 zipr wind brkr (a Golf jacket), wool cap, flip back mittens, neck warmer.
maf run was 1mi warm up, 5 min walk then bring hr up to 97 and hold, then when gps auto lapped picked up pace to hr=107 and hold for 3mi, then slow jog to bring hr under 100, then walk for 4 or 5 min. Idea is to examine how pace changes during the maf runs. A large slow down is an indication of poor aerobic function. maf pace changes versus time show should show increase in pace for fixe hr. I held avg hr=107 well for 3 maf mi's. Pace was 12:49, 12:48, 13:06 - not bad, shows (I think) good aerobic function. Minor slowing of pace could also have been impacted by the fiddling around I did with clothing - see below.
A kind of malfunction junction kind of run. First my mp3 quit at about 2.5 mi and I finished the run in silence, well I could hear my noisy feet! Tried to run more quietly but when I did hr went up a beat or two. Have to figure out how to be lighter on my feet with that happening. Then when I got to warm in mi 4 I tried to unzip the Layer 8 - had already had wind brkr unzipped for over a mi. I fumbled with the zipr, even with mittens flipped back, thumb was still covered, so it was a challenge while trying to maintain pace, then it got stuck then the teeth opened up under the zipr. I was pissed, saw hr dropping and said %&*&&*%$^ and left it like that. During mi 5 cool down I decided to open it all the way, then pull from the top and got the zipr back to the bottom.
Crazy time at work. Could be a late night trying to get a baseline and release to occur so others can work the weekend, followed by being on call for off Fri, with more on Monday. We've also been tasked with a 7 day week thru the holidays, with only 12/25 and 1/1 as off days. The $ will be good but its annoying that this has happened on every test program I have been involved with for the last 40 years! Its like holidays are black holes that suck the work into them! Oh well, just a few more years and I'll chuck it in, but then I am also learning a new aspect of engineering I hadn't worked in and possibly an additional area for consulting after retirement. gotta love it!
Kristen - I don't how many push ups I can do now that I stopped the boot camps and cross training. Dr Maffetone says that is anerobic exercise that negatively impacts building up aerobic function. I was doing over 50 push ups, but then I always had muscle soreness. Since I stopped I have had not muscle soreness from running or anything else. And my quads are looser and my heels can touch my butt - which I couldn't do before. I still do light "angle" push ups off sink or counters in hopes I can maintain some of the conditioning. Not to many since I want to keep hr low.

#14 Snow Beach Toronto ~ Andrew Hamilton
Wednesday started off bad. All our power and cable went out at around 10 am. Then they discovered that the generator was malfunctioning. The hallways were in pitch darkness because the emergency lights didn't come on. Of course the elevators were shut down too. We had two fire trucks, two amulances and two police cars standing outside for the duration. The firemen came to each apartment to check on everyone. Finally, power was restored around noon.
Our tree trimming party was the bright spot in the day. It's done by a group of volunteers from a local company each year. We made coffee and they brought the cookies. We now have a big, real tree which they set up in the community room and then everyone had a hand in decorating. We sang carols and socialized. One of the men was an amatuer balloon artist who made balloon animals and flowers for everyone. Mine is a white seagull.
On a not so nice note, word is spreading about one of the tenants who was displaced when his apartment flooded from a burst pipe in the apartment upstairs. I'll call him J.P.. He was moved into a vacant apartment for the duration, or so we thought. He is now being told he must move to another apartment on an upper floor because the one he's staying in has been rented and the move in is today! They told him yesterday afternoon that he has to be out today. This man is in a wheelchair and on a respirator 24/7. He has round the clock nursing aides and has been able to live indendently in his own apartment for years now. Moving for him is an awful experience. All his friends are up in arms, but we didn't find out about it until 6 pm. I'll see everyone at the breakfast today and maybe we can get a crew together to help him. I feel like making protest signs and picketing the office. This man always has a smile and a cheery word for everyone he sees. He happily scoots around in a motorized wheelchair and even though he has trouble talking, he manages to converse. He does have some use of his hands and keeps in touch with friends and family via email. Such a wonderful human being does not deserve this cavalier treatment.
Plan for today - annual Trinity House Christmas breakfast from 9 am until 11. Then I suppose I'll meet with J.P.s other friends and we'll try to find a way to help him out. I pity anyone in the office today because they are going to get an earful from a lot of people.
Menu for today - breakfast - eggs, home fries, bacon, pastry? I wonder if they'll have fruit. Lunch - a salad with some kind of protein and nuts. Supper - leftover vegetarian chili with a corn tortilla. Snacks - tangerine, popcorn, milk. Lunch will be late because of the mid morning breakfast party.
The rain finished early and the we had a nice sunny day. Then the wind whipped up. We're getting 45 mph (75 kph) gusts. The temperature will fall all day and it will be below freezing for a couple of days - our coldest weather since last March. Looks like I'm going to have a cold, windy trip to the doctor.
Today: Keep your temper in control, no matter what.

Your friendship
Dec 09 2009 14:44
This has been a bad last half of the year 2009 and I'd like to say to you all, I am sorry for not being the type of friend I feel I should have been. Just know I am dealing with alot of various issues and the ones listed in the next two paragraphs have me in a really depressed mood. So I probably will be posting less often. I'll do my best to read your posts, but probably won't comment. I think my comments might focus too much on what is going on with our family.
Right now I am so so overwhelmed with the diagnosis of both of my pets, then secondardy is the cost. First Beauty has an ulcer in her cornea. It is healing but leaving holes that need to fill in. So to help in that they put in a human contact. Imagine that! The cost of her bill yesterday was 117.00 and add that to the 202 dollars I already have on account then you come with 320 almost. It is going to take me forever to pay this off at 25 dollars a month.
Then Sandys visit went in the wrong direction also today. She had to have an x-ray on her paw to show the joint. It is swollen and she favors it so the treatment for that is an antiinflammatory and antibiotic. The most probable cause is a tumor, whether benign or not. Tentatively surgery will be next Friday, but for now we are going to see how this antibiotic treatment will aid in the healing process. Her visit today was 176 and surgery to be up to 400. dollars if they don't clean her teeth while she is alseep and remove this awful wart near her eye.
My blood sugars have been all over the chart today. We will see what happens. I just need this stress to leave.
Take care all and God Bless. . . . .
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. May your days be filled with health, happiness and financial security.
annual physical w/new Dr.
Dec 09 2009 12:31
173.5! Scale moved in the right direction.
No run this morning, or even a walk, annual physical with fasting blood test. Slept until 0530! After the physical I didn't get to my car until almot 9:30 and had a banana while I drove to work. I was happy I controled my eating once at work and didn't really have a breakfast. Hope the scale continues downward tomorrow morning.
My bp was up a bit this morning. I'm a morning spiker, and it had been under control b4. The upward drift could be because of increase in weight (10lbs) and re-intriduction of caffienated coffee. So we increased one of my nightime meds - one that will not effect hr! I also want to cutback the caffien - again, and lose the 10-15 lbs - again!
The new Dr is a runner recovering from PF so he understands. My prostate is still enlarged and we decided to start Avodart and stop the Flomax next year when my supply runs out. It might help me reduce further how often I get up to urinate at night. Its gotten better but still 3-5x/nt.
Am thinking about a maf test (couple of mi with hr=107) tomorrow morning. Temp will be in the low 20'sF, not supposed to be as windy as this morning.

Art of the season - Contemporary Photograph

Snow Impressionist ~ Valerie Berdyuk
My Christmas tree is up! Gayle's husband wired on the ornaments and even got me a few new, tiny ones, in scale with the small tree. It looked so pretty lit up last night.
My apartment is also very clean now, and thanks to Lesley my laundry is all done. One of Gayle's helpers spent the time to use the pet hair attachment on my new little Black & Decker cordless vacuum to go over all the furniture really well. I'm going to try to keep it up. Can't have guests going home with cat hair all over them.
Plan for today: phone calls this morning, then the annual tree trimming party in the community room at 3 PM.
Menu for today: More raisin bran and a banana for breakfast (problem nearly solved, thank you) Lunch - Must eat something before the party. Another big salad should do it. Supper - vegetarian chili, tortilla. Snacks - cookies and punch at the party, apple. I doubt if I'll be under my calorie goal of 1500.
It's a rainy morning with hope of some sunshine later. It's also warmed up, so no ice! The temperature should reach 50 F, 7 C. I'll be glad to see some sun this afternoon. This means that I'll have no problem getting to my doctor's appointment tomorrow.
Today: Let the happiness of the season overtake the gloom.
