Weekly Check In
I got back on track this week and made a very good start to phase II of my plan. I kept my life balance goals in reasonable check making progress on my bookkeeping and on my career goals and went all out on my health goals. I'm finding 1500 calories a bit challenging. Mainly I need to bring some more fruit and snacks into the house. Most days I ate around 1200-1300 and left the remaining 200 calories because I didn't have any small calorie snacks. That did help with being able to have a bit more food on the weekends when I eat with my partner.
There's really not too much more to say than that, week 1 of 12 - complete. Well done.

Weekly Check-In
This week has been my weakest week since I started measuring my life balance goals. I did poorly in every category with a weekly overall average of only 11%. I still find it an interesting phenomena that when I feel in control of my eating and my fitness being in control of the other aspects of my life seems to fall into place. About midway though this week I surrendered to a maintenance level week after completing phase I of my plan. I also ended up letting many other aspects of my life slide. My bookkeeping and career search suffered the most, my kitchen is a mess and I haven't even gotten the next two books for my bookclubs.
The good news is that with the olympics stared and a week of being idle I am really ready to get back to this. I delayed going back into it by a day for two reasons. One to round out one week of being idle and two to give myself that heightened sense of anticipation of going back into trying to achieve a goal and shoot for that success again.
One very positive thing that came out of the week off is that I had some of the foods that I normally cannot fit into my calories without sacrificing entire meals, and they tasted nowhere near as good as I remember. In fact they were pretty bad. Overly greasy, too sweet.... and I didn't even eat fat food, these were just a few high-cal stir-fry's that I made at home! I am desperately craving fresh tomatoes, corn, berries and greens.
Here we go, time for phase II to really begin!

I am so very very very (yes at least 3 very's possibly more) happy to say that I met my goal of eating a daily average of no more than 1600 calories (1560 to be exact) last week, which means that I am officially finished phase I of my plan!
Congratulations to me! It took me 23 weeks to work my way from no exercise & eating a daily average of 3,000 calories, to working our 4 times a week, for 2 hours each session and eating a daily average of 1,500 calories from here on out until I reach my goals.
It's actually kind of funny how now that I am here 23 weeks really hasn't seemed like that long of a time, it's gone by quite quickly and I have a lot to be proud of in that time. Not only have I gone back to the gym and gotten into a regular work out habit, I've managed to move that work out habit to an early morning (for me 6am is early) start and engage some friends in some regular sports as well. Slowly working my calories down has been really really good as it's given me a long time to get used to the reduced intake and I really haven't felt hungry or deprived this whole time. I'm also eating much better, lots or organic, locally grown, whole grains, no packaged pre-prepared junk.
Most surprising for me has been the physical results. When I dove into a diet in the past I was always frustrated at how long it took for the numbers to go down and then how slowly they progressed. Focusing on the weight always took the focus off the physical results and nothing came fast enough.
This time I can't believe that I am already a size 14 close to a size 12 this early in my plan. Okay, yes it's 23 weeks, but I think focusing on the process and what it really takes to make this a long term commitment to myself, well 23 weeks really doesn't seem like all that much. I continue to be blown away that my body has responded so quickly and so well to the changes I made.
This past week in particular I did let some of my life balance goals slide out of control. I made absolutely no progress on my finances or my career. I did however achieve a major milestone on my health, kept up my household goals (71%) respectably and didn't let my reading / social life fall apart (67%). Overall not a bad week (even taken as a slice by itself), and a terrific week if I look at the larger picture I think I needed the extra time to put in with my end of phase I goal to make sure that I pushed myself across the finish line and did not sabotage myself.
So, here I am. Officially starting phase II of my plan! Wow! Can't believe this day / week is here!
For the next 12 weeks (or more) I will be trying to build 12 consecutive weeks where I eat a daily average of not more than 1500 calories and exercise at least 4 times per week for 2 hours per day.
If I miss this goal for one week then I deduct half of the weeks completed to date. I expect this will take me longer than 12 weeks to complete, I will be happy if it takes me less than 24 weeks to complete.
Onwards and upwards here we go!

Weekly Check In
I did much better this week on my health goals. I am really excited to say that I ate at 1700 calories and went to the gym four days this week. Which means that this week I am trying for 1600 calories and going to the gym also for four days. If I do this then I am finished Phase I of my plan! That means I've successfully weened myself down from 3,000 calories per day on average to a place where I'll be trying to maintain a 12 week plan of 1500 calories per day. I'm really excited about this!
My biggest challenge with the 1600 (and then 1500) seems not to be the hunger factor. I think slowly bringing down my calories helped with that. It's the little bites. I'm still really bad at estimating how many calories are in what. Especially when I'm eating out.
The not so good news is that getting back on track on health & diet came at the cost of some life balance, and I almost completely neglected my financial and career goals this week. I'm way behind in my reading for my book club this coming week. I also didn't do very well with keeping up with housework. If this lifestyle change is really going to be a lifestyle change then I need to be able to do it within the scope of my life. That is good diet & exercise + keep good job + keep up with bank account + don't let home fall apart around me + still see friends and be social.

Weekly Check-In
I didn't do very well last week, and I really have no reason for it. I missed my goal of averaging 1700 cal/day by about 35 calories. So I'm trying for that again, I also didn't make my exercise goal of 4 days per week, mainly due to sleeping in. Bad me! I need to be careful that this is not a self sabotage as I am so close to completing phase I of my plan. Really only 2 more weeks to go, as I just have to get a week at 1700 cal and a week at 1600 cal and then I am onto phase II of trying for 12 weeks at 1500 cal with the exercise. This is NOT a time to fall off the wagon.
I got up late today (I never get up early on Monday's) and my friend has cancelled our tennis game (she's stick) so I'm planning to go to the gym instead of tennis this afternoon and hope, that like tennis last week, that it will give me the energy needed to get up early tomorrow morning.
I'm doing a bit better on my life balance goals having most above 50%, obviously the health goals not doing so well last week missing both the calorie and the exercise goal. I also need to pay more attention to my career goals.

Weekly Update
Last week was really crazy, I let the exercise slide, I just couldn't get myself motivated to go to the gym after a week of being sick. The good news is that even with going on the rating trip, I did mange to stay on calorie. YAY which means that I'm now (this week) trying for 1700 cal/day weekly average and trying to get my butt back to the gym. I'm really excited, if I can to this week at 1700 and next week at 1600 then the following week is the beginning of Phase II of my plan!
I did better on general life balance, but not well I'm still surfing in the 50% range, letting career goals suffer, and being a complete idiot about my personal finances. So I need to pull that together as well as getting my butt to the gym. Not worth paying for the membership if I don't use it!
I'm feeling very blah today, but I think that is just the general lack of sleep combined with the high physical activity of 2 days rafting followed by 8 hours trapped on the bus.
I really need to find a way to make sure I am out of bed early enough tomorrow to get this gym thing going again. I also have a tennis date scheduled for the evening. Hoping it doesn't thunder shower.

Weekly Check In
This week has been rough, the calories were completely off, first because although I did well for the first part of camping (last week) I did not do well on the second part of camping (this week). Secondly, I've been sick with a nasty cold for the remainder of the week, which has meant the boy has been feeding me (nice, but high cal) and I constantly have sucky candies in my mouth because my throat is so sore.
I also only achieved 44% of my life balance goals this week, which is also understandable due to trip and then cold.
Nothing to beat myself up over. I'm still not feeling 100% but I am definitely on the mend and hope to be better mid-week so that I do feel like white water rafting at the end of the week and hope that I don't get sick again!
My goals for this week are to eat a daily average of 1800 cal and to get to the gym for 4 days for 2 hours per day. Four more weeks to go until Phase I complete!
