Attended Achieve Healthy Living club last night in The Villages. Learned about digestion. Ok, a bit more than I really wanted to think about as I'm enjoying good food. I left mid way thru as I was starving. Been going from club to club since 11 am with no food. By now it was 8 pm. She had handouts and was reading word by word from the handouts but hers was on a screen in color. I figured I could read at home.
Try not to mix veggies and fruit. Never drink liquid with your meal. Perhaps 1 hr. before and certainly 1 hr. after a meal. You do need about 8 glasses of water a day but not with meals. Food breaks down better without water. Leave 4-6 hours between meals with no food. Your food starts breaking down. If you add food, snacks, etc., 2 hr. later, your stomach is confused and it slows down the digestive process. To sleep better, do not eat 6 hrs. before bed and go to bed hungry, which means the food is digesting and the rest is good for your system. Fats do not get broken down in the stomach but rather go the intestines which makes them work harder.
I had always heard eating small meals was better, thru out the day. Maybe small meals take less time to digest.
She pointed out having eaten say a meal, then you add in a candy bar, fruit, snacks, etc. til the stomach is full and no way to work and do it's job. You should poop for each meal you have a day. 3 meals = 3 poops a day. Sort of ruined the thoughts of good food thinking about it that way.
She was an RN I think and specializes in nutritian and I think maybe worked at a healthy living spa, etc. I walked in once the session had started.
