Entry My 12 steps to a healthier happier me (REPOST)
Nov 05 2008 12:35

using caloriecount.about.com

1) take before pictures... i know you may not want to.. i hated mine.. but do it.. you will be glad you did

2) take before measurements... you want measurements of your neck, breast, chest (right below the breasts), natural waistline (narrowest part), widest part of your waist, widest part of your hips, widest part of dominate thigh, widest part of dominant calf, and your wrist... these will show you what that scale sometimes wont..

3) take those measurements and go here .. this will give your body fat index... this can also help show you what that scale sometimes wont...

4) DRINK LOTS OF WATER..  half your body weight in oz..  so you weigh 134 you should be drinking AT LEAST 67 oz of water.. and add an 8 oz glass for each half hour of exercise you do.

5)definitely take advantage of the free tools that calorie count has to offer... figure out your BMI...  then figure out your daily allowance  .... then figure out your daily expenditure  ...

6) i set my activity level at sedentary.. because one.. your body is use to what you do on a daily basis, besides added exercise..  so i just add whatever exercise i do each day to figure out my total calories burned..

7) use your food log.. this will help you figure out your deficit each day... and will hold you accountable for everything you put in your body..  if you cant use the log all day, you can take a notebook with you and write everything down then enter it later... i personally find its easier to plan what i am going to eat a day in advance, especially if i find i have a special event happening..

8)then take your daily calories burned  and subtract your daily caloric intake... this will equal your deficit for the day..  you want this to be between say 500 - 750 .. everybody is different, so you need to find that magic number that works for you...

9) exercise... even if you are just starting out..  you can take it slow to start with.. getting up and walking ten minutes will be good for a beginner.. you dont have to jump right into an hour workout..  you dont have to work out everyday.. just get into a habit of doing it.. you will almost immediately see results in at least the way you feel each day because of it..

10) use the forums... there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there..  and they have almost all been right where you are at some point in this journey..  we are all more then willing to help..  if we can...

11) plateaus - i hate em lol. i am stuck on one now.. and i know the advice i have given does work to break them.. i just have to force myself to do so.. lol... to break a plateau.. CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE DOING... it will basically "shock" your metabolism..  so if you are eating 1300 calories a day.. try eating 1500 calories for a few days then drop back down for a few.. then back up for a few.. then back down...  your body wont know what to expect next..  they call this "zigzagging" here on cc..   it works.. sometimes if i go out and have a good dinner.. enjoy myself.. dont worry so much about the calories.. i will see a change when i go back to eating normal.. (just watch your sodium level when you do this.. over 2500 mg in a day and you are BOUND to see a weight gain, and it will mostly be water... the only way you will see a real weight gain is if its 1) muscle or 2) you ate 3500 calories over your allowance...(3500 equals a lb according to cc)  if changing up what you are eating doesnt work.. then change up your exercise routine.. do something different.. increase it.. try a different type of workout.. something different...

12) enjoy yourself.. dont deprive yourself...  use will power, and eat proper propertions of foods..  try not to fill your caloric allotment with empty calories.

AS of NOV 2008 I have MAINTAINED my weight at about 130 lbs for over 1 year.. THIS DOES WORK!! GL

Entry The Coping Diet
Jul 29 2008 12:35

Hi all, just wanted to let you know I am still around, sorry I havent been commenting on anyones journal entries...  I have basically maintained around 130 (give or take 5 lbs either way)  for the last year, until April when my husband came home and has been home since.. Its soooo much easier to eat GOOD when hes not here lol..  When hes here it seems we eat out more often, and its just been easier to fix the foods he likes rather then the foods that are "better" for me, lol..  So I actually hit 140 a couple times in the last few months, and as of this week and last week, am attempting to get back on track.. Also with the kids out of school for the summer, and my boredom with the Gym.. plus our A/C being out for a bit of the time, I DIDNT exercise either, .... :( ....  But am trying to get back on track there too, starting with some walking..  Kids are gone back to school starting today and tomorrow, INCLUDING my BABY.. He started Kindergarten today :( Just wanted all to know where I was, and how I have been...  And I will leave you with this FUNNY...

Entry Whew glad i woke up from that nightmare.. lol
May 21 2008 20:36

Abductions You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves. Well, this kind of cruel theft is happening with other body parts as well! My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans. And then the thieves struck again.

My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts. Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arms swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary ~ my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next? When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story.

Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something 'lifted', look again ~ was it lifted from you? THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night. WARN YOUR FRIENDS! P.S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my Boobs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

Entry Military Spouse Day, 2008
May 10 2008 08:54

Military Spouse Day, 2008

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Military spouses embody the courage, nobility of duty, and love of country that inspire every American. On Military Spouse Day, we pay tribute to the husbands and wives who support their spouses in America's Armed Forces during times of war and peace.

The legacy of military spouses began when colonial Americans were fighting for independence. Martha Washington boosted the morale of her husband's troops by visiting battlefields and tending to the wounded. Since then, members of our Armed Forces have served our Nation accompanied by the steadfast love and support of their spouses and families.
While our men and women in uniform are protecting our country's founding ideals of liberty, democracy, and justice, their spouses live with uncommon challenges, endure sleepless nights, and spend long periods raising children alone. Many military spouses are also committed volunteers, serving other military families and local communities. Our Nation benefits from the sacrifices of our military families, and we are inspired by their courage, strength, and leadership.

On Military Spouse Day and throughout the year, we honor the commitment spouses have made to freedom's cause. To learn about ways to support our troops and their spouses and families, I encourage all Americans to visit www.americasupportsyou.mil.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 9, 2008, as Military Spouse Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities and by expressing their gratitude to the husbands and wives of those serving in the United States Armed Forces.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.
GEORGE W. BUSH

Entry update on my daughter
Apr 17 2008 16:13

sorry i am copy and pasting this from a message i am sending someone else. please forgive me.. i just dont wanna type it umpteen times..

well he told me nothing new.. firmly bellieve it is vasol vagal syncope..  says to have her drink gatorade (or powerade, etc) at least once a day.. cos it has sodium in it, to help RETAIN the fluids, keep her from getting dehydrated..  make sure she understands that if she feels like she is going to pass out to sit down or lay down.. she should feel better pretty quickly if she does so..  make sure shes not eating too big of bites of food as this can trigger the vasal vagal (i spell it wrong every time) nerve and cause her to pass out.. this includes stuff like ice cream.. he did NOT have the results from the ctscan, so i still have to wait for her neurologist to call me..  he did say that even though its not QUITE as common in younger children as it is in teenagers, that it DOES happen..

the good thing?? they normally outgrow it in a couple years.. and from everything i have told him, and his examination of her, he doesnt feel it could be anything else..  so we shall wait and see..

so thats where i am.. still insecure about the diagnosis.. this is my child we are talking about.. but 2 specialists, and 2 ER pediatricians all agree this is probably what it is.. so I guess I have to take their word, and hope they are right..

Entry hehehe
Apr 11 2008 13:13

A woman goes to the doctor for her yearly physical.  The nurse starts with certain basic items.
"How much do you weigh?" she asks.

"115," she says.
The nurse puts her on the scale.
It turns out her weight is 140.

The nurse asks, "Your height?"
"5 foot 8," she says.
The nurse checks and sees that she only
measures 5' 5".

She then takes her blood pressure and tells the woman it is very high.

"Of course it's high!" she screams,"When I came in here I was tall and slender! Now I'm short and fat!"

Flour and Water

How come when you mix water and flour together

You get glue?..

And
 then you add eggs
And
 sugar...
And
 you get cake?

Where did the glue go ?

NEED AN ANSWER?

You know darned well where it went!

That's what makes the cake
Stick to your BUTT

Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe even a chuckle).

We all need a good laugh, keep on smiling..
