My daughter in law was craving Chinese food for dinner, so she stopped at The Taste of China for the first time to bring home take out for all of us. She said they had 2 menus: American Chinese and Chinese, so she asked for the authentic Chinese menu. Since she is Asian, she was given it, but apparently not everyone is: the proprietor will tell most Caucasians, "No, no, you won't like it; too hot!" and she even looks askance at some Asians. At least, that's the rumor, and it seems plausible: Sue got the Chinese menu and ordered beef, pork, and chicken dishes. The response: "No, no, you won't like it. I order for you." She brought home chicken with bamboo shoots, Ma Po tofu, and a whole tilapia (ie, head and tail included) in hot sauce. It was all fabulous. (Any of this sound familiar, Natalie?)
I took another lengthy jog/walk in the neighborhood this morning and realized how much I love going South. The sounds and fragrances make the heat and humidity irrelevant, at least in the low 80s temps. Breezes and shade make it possible.
I also tried a moderately paced walking meditation for the last 30 minutes, and it seemed appropriate, valid in consideration of my question yesterday. The environment accomodated the process.
I'm fond of certain parts of the South also, I especially love Savannah, where I've travelled several times on business. |
Ooh, I love real Chinese food! Had it in Japan--it's so much healthier than the North American stuff. I've never been to the South, but I've heard a lot of good things about it, esp. Charleston. Sounds as though your jog/walk was a sensory delight. |
