Entry Passing on the Info ...
Nov 10 2006 22:49

my post from the thread, found here:

Actually, I brought this up on another thread, that a concern of mine was when my current clothes got so big for me that I wouldn't be able to wear them anymore.  While I can't wait for that day to happen, being on a very fixed income will make purchasing new clothes quite difficult, so I asked around for suggestions and someone said to look around for something like a weight-loss clothing exchange group.  So I looked around and the only thing I could find was a resource for those who have had bariatric surgery, and most of them needed verification of the surgery in order to take advantage of it.  Well that's all well and good for those who have had the procedure, but what about those of us doing it the old fashion way?  So I took it upon myself earlier today to make up my own exchange group here.

Feel free to check it out - it's a totally free group for people from all walks of life, all around the globe.  The idea is that those of us who have worked our way out of our bigger clothes can swap them in for something that might fit is better.  Makes sense?  And if you are offering a bigger size, and someone on the list knows someone that can use it, then by all means, let them know.  I just started the list today (a few hours ago, actually), and just finished making up the group home picture, so haven't gotten to inviting anyone.  You all are the first!!  Feel free to pass on the info to those you might think might be interested.

EDIT:  11/23/06:  Was going to post about the exchange group in the forums, however promotional posts are not allowed, so that nixes that idea.  The only thing I can say is if you, or anyone you know, is interested, you can check out the group at this link:  WLCE.
Thanks!!

Wow! Great idea! We could take pictures of our old close and post them and the size on this site! But what about shipping costs? I'm on a set income too and sometimes shipping can get costly. Any ideas?

On the site I said that the shipping costs would be discussed between the involved parties.  If the 2 people are switching between each other, maybe possibly splitting the cost of shipping might help?  Also, bulk mailing (mailing more than 1 item to the same person) might help to keep costs down.  Also, for larger shipments, going through a company like UPS or Fedex might be an option.  Being on a fixed income myself, I can surely understand the dilemma of affording to mail the item(s).

I just had another idea.  On some of the crafting groups I'm on, they have a 'craft share' box that they share among the interested members.  What they do is, put items in the box that they wish to share (when they receive it) and take item(s) that they are interested in.  For example, if the box has a sweater in a size that you need, then take it.  However, if you do take something, be sure to replace it with something that you no longer need that someone else might.  Then mail the box to the next person on the list.  It's sort of on the idea of a 'round robin'.  That's something that might be of use too.  Just a thought.

This is a great idea!!!  Since losing 63 pounds, I didn't have a thing to wear this winter.  I've had to buy all new clothes and it has become very costly!!  My closet is filled with good clothes that I can't wear anymore.  I need to get rid of them.  I'll check this site out.

{{{willow}}}  gr8 idea.  i almost think it would have real local interest too.  like on craigslist/freecycle? i don't know if you have any public local bulletin boards.

i'm not sure how to work though... if i give my clothes to someone but get them from someone else...  it's almost like you need a central room like with used books.  bring in 2, take 2 different ones home.

any chance a local charity/church type organization might be interested in hosting locally.  i think it's a rad idea.  and i know i could consider that...

LOL   You must've been inside my head last night or somethin'.  I couldn't sleep last night and this whole thing was racing in my head (among other things) and I was thinking that possibly - and not sure how yet- that there would be a list for each state that could be the 'base' for that state?  I don't know - I hadn't thought *that* far ahead LOL   I agree tho - I was thinking that a central location would make things a bit easier, which is how I got to the '1 list - or more if needed - for each state...' thought.  So any ideas or thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome.  I'm on the OKC freecycle list, however one of the list rules is no advertising, so can't mention this list on that list.  I also know about craigslist and I might be able to put something on there about it.

willow, i also think you should do an independent separate thread on this in weight loss (issue of how to cope as you lose weight).  you may get assistance/ideas &/or participants :)

Jules, I like the idea of making a thread about this... I'll start one up a lil later today (daughter and I are getting ready to head to the gym in a few mins).  Thanks for the support and suggestions - both are much appreciated!!!

hey!  glad we're friends :)

btw, why don't you stop by my jounal entry from the 11th when you get a 2nd ~ have a happy celebration patch for you :)  methinks u r off to a gr8 start!  i'm really proud of you :)

i had to lose and relose my first 14 lbs about 4 times this year and struggled with quitting twice this year, mid-May thru July and mid-Sept thru mid-Oct.  I always could make it thru the honeymoon period before, but never ever made it past 12 weeks before.

i don't want to do that anymore.  i think if we take it slow and easy and seek variety... and take on changing 1 thing at a time, it will build up and get easier....

it gets tooooooo overwhelming to flip a switch and try to change it all!

when i am under stress or having a bad day, that's when I really want to toss down the towel... so, i'm working on learning to cope some other way instead of stuff myself silly or suck downs the sickerettes.

this thing we're doing is hard.  not impossible.  just hard now & then.

friends make it easier.  glad we *friended* :)
