For the last 2 days, despite every effort, I am having the mad munchies. I have been drinking water til its coming out of my ears, been trying to have low calorie snacks, eat the right foods, try to stay as active as possible (hurt my knee on the treadmill Friday so I'm sort of hobbling right now) however no matter what I do I can't seem to shake these CRAVINGS for food. I know this sounds so weird, but it's like my body and my stomach hasn't seen any food for months and it's trying to play catch up. I keep telling myself "you've done so good, don't blow it... get a grip on it" but it's driving me nuts. The more I try *not* to think about it, the worse the cravings get. I don't want to undo the hard work I've done so far, however these munchies are driving me crazy. I don't know what to do. At this point I'm afraid even the low calorie snacks and stuff are gonna set me over the limit. I feel awful - like I'm failing somehow - cuz I can't get these cravings under control. I don't want to fail. I don't want to gain back what I've lost. I know it's not much - it's only 20 lbs, not like I've lost 100 - but I'm so afraid if I gain anything that that will be it - there will be no more dieting and I'll be fat forever, and I don't want that either. And yet, even knowing all that, and reminding myself of all that, these cravings are just intense.
HELP.
HELP.
Hang tight! The cravings will pass! A trick I have found is to have one bite of whatever it is I am craving. That also could be a potential for disaster though, if you are not careful. =) Can you swap out something healthy that you have been having in exchange for something perhaps not as healthy? Like what kind of stuff are you craving? Maybe it would help to write about it. =) |
Willow ~ is it by any chance totm too? Between the goodies from the holiday and raging pms (i'm like 5 days late), my goodie gobbler has been out of control, a raving lunatic. Here's the thing. It will go back in hiding usually after totm starts... And for me it starts 10 - 14 days before and gets progressively harder... and if i get late, it gets worse... so... what triggered this? Holiday pies? which I could dive into along with the whipped cream? the chips or pms? The trick i think is to survive. Increase your food to maintenance at least. Make some low cal veggie soup. Broth with any veggie (non-starchy) thrown in, spice to taste in broth and like some diced tomato/sauce. 1/2 c = 25 cals or less depending on the veggies and then have like 2 cups at a time... along with your snack of fruit or whatever... mix a little carb with some protein and a bit of fat for staying power... like 2 tbs of peanut butter over 2 rice cakes... or 2 oz of cheese with crackers... the combo will stick with you longer... i'll be right back with 2 links... |
ok... here's the 1 on pms that says to feed it... and also... some days i bump up even 500 cals more. that is only 1/7th of a lb. it will not make you gain even 1 lb but just slow down your loss 1 day. if you go up at this time, it is water weight. if you don't gorge and binge, then the scale will go back down next week, so stay off the scale or ignore the upscale and just don't let it be an excuse to throw down the towel and eat with glee. ya hear???? |
here's about snacking & soups ~ the other thing i suggest is like the large bags of 94% fat free popcorn. 1 c = 15 cals and it's like 13 cupas in a bag... so thats 200 cals in a bag with a lot of crunch~n~munch power... but lots of salt too, so then the scale zooms up for me. i don't know if you have trouble with salt, but I do. it makes my weight go zoom, zoom... my knees swell, and then i hobble. all summer i could barely walk. it's why i had to stop doing the treadmill... and why i had to find a water aerobics class, my knees can not take the work outs in the summer. i am doing better now. but in about May, i strained mine (right) a bit and had to stay off the exercise for 2 weeks until it recovered. this is 1 thing/time... you do NOT want to push thru the pain. it is NOT "no pain, no gain"... so be sure to ease up and let your knees get better... {{{hugs}}} you can so do this! you really are doing gr8... |
....skids back in... the last thing... i have tried every diet in the book except having my teeth wired shut (like mumsie) and having my tummy bypassed like my neighbor who died from it. I seriously considered the tummy thing... but... it would cause me to eat less... but unless I really got a grip, I would regain like Carne Wilson or Al Roker, eh? so... i decided not to do that. i'm doing this the long hard way. i refuse to give up... and will be here a long time. a very long time. some way we'll figure this out... we just have to get through the rough days. and we can get thru them together... promise |
1 last thing. have i ever shared with you Dr Blackburn's theory that slow is good... and that we need to make sustainable changes... that we can do the rest of our lifetime? that if we go slow, then we won't trigger the body set point theory... which says the hypothalmus regulates weight and if you lose to fast, then it will fight you by sending hormones thru the body with nearly irresistible urges to eat so you will eat & eat & regain your weight? fast? when i read on the body set point theory like 90% of the links say that it's impossible to lose... just like up to 95% of people regain their weight. the only chance to really lose... that I've ever seen (heard about) is to lose it slow.... beat that body set point... so we can keep it off and get our life back... i'll go get the link. you can watch the stuff free online... |
it's called *fat & happy*, and it's in the first segment *doctor empathy* anyway... you have so been doing well! new scales, joined a gym, lost 20! a bad day is just a bad day or 2... let's shoot for more good than bad days :) {{{hugs}}} |
hi there... i don't know if you've heard this before, but they say that after just three weeks your tastes can change. i don't know who "they" are, but that is what i have heard. for me, the proof was literally in the pudding...i'll tell you why: i buy fat free jello pudding cups (vanilla) and figured they were a decent snack (90 cals - gets a C+), but for about a month i didn't buy any, and then when i did buy more, i found it tasted too sweet. you are doing a great job so far... remember, it took us years to get as big as we are (i started here at 324), so to expect the weight to just fly off seems - to me anyway - kind of silly. according to CC - it will take me until Nov. 2008 to reach my goal weight. that's two years from now!! so take it slow... try not to worry about the numbers on the scale... i am convinced that my scale lies to me... take care...{{{hugs}}} |
Hey, you! A couple of thoughts for you.... what kind of foods are you generally craving? Do you think it might be possible you have a vitamin deficiency of some sort? The body tends to crave what it lacks in terms of nutrients, so maybe think about if you're leaving something out of your diet that your body needs? If it's just the "mental munchies" that I get every time I walk past a bag of dark chocolate M&Ms in the store, well.... that's just will power, LOL!! What I do find that helps is to make sure the meals and snacks I'm eating will stay with me a while... I swear by oatmeal for breakfast! It stays and stays and stays, a wonderful energy food. If you crave sweets, there's lots of low-cal sweet things to eat that won't get you into trouble! And there's always air-popped popcorn!! Hang in there, toots!! ~smoogles~ |
you are doing so good - i am so happy for you! maybe its just ttom related - i definitely noticed cravings this month. i dont recall ever experiencing that before, or i wasnt aware of it - it was intense! |
Oh yeah, and well... um... coffee. I can't get my day off the ground without it. There's so many yummy creamers to try, fat free, sugar-free, bla blah.... I always add a smidge to mine and since coffee naturally curbs hunger, it isn't bad in moderate quantities, plus it's comforting and warm, if you like that sort of thing!! /wink |
My personal opinion is that you may not be eating enough. You are doing very well at losing and that is great. Be careful not to lose too fast though, are you within 1000 carories of what you burn daily? I find that I binge when I don't eat enough througout the day. Keep up the good work. |
Most days I eat small amounts all day long...it equals out to my allowed calories. When I get the munchies, I sit down and eat most of my allowed calories in three meals. I truly then feel full and satisfied. Special K cereal with fat free milk also helps me when I have the muchies. I get to chew and chew....which is sometimes what I crave. You can also eat and eat and eat sugar free jello with sugar free Kool Whip. This will pass...hang in there!!! You have been working at this for a few months now...you're tired....Catch your second wind and carry on. We are with you!!!! Denise |
