s.e. & Baba Ganouj
Nov 18 2009 08:25

1494/235.9

{{{Drea}}}:)  s.e.= standard entry. I do this so that I can, at a glance, see which entries contain notes I might like to revisit. As follows:

First attempt at Baba Ganouj, sans recipe. Split eggplant lengthwise, drizzled with olive oil, salt & pepper. 350 degrees for about an hour. Scraped the meat into the blender, a taste of the skin revealed it was ok if some made it in as well, added a splash of olive oil, some garlic and zizzed it for only a few moments. Then into a bowl for finishing. Instead of tahini, I mixed in a tablespoon or so of mayo and then a little splash of lemon to brighten the flavors.

I had thought to mix some with tuna rather than using mayo, but it was so good I simply ate it with cut veggies.

Next time, less garlic -  and perhaps some heat.

I officially like eggplant again. :)

Art of the Season - Canadian, Emily Carr

Autumn Woods ~ Emily Carr, 1911

Tuesday went pretty well.  Lesley stayed all morning and the visiting nurse came and did my evaluation.  I now have fluid in my lungs so she called my doctor who knows this routine, we've been through it so many times.  So now it's more pee-pee pills for a few days.  I knew I was retaining yesterday morning when I saw that my weight had jumped 10 pounds in 5 days.  We all know that's impossible, but there it is - wonder why I don't slosh when I walk.  Any more of this and my back teeth will be floating.  I did manage to stay up all day so I should sleep well tonight.  My lovely neighbor brought me a platter - slices of roast chicken, fresh steamed broccoli and brown rice pilaf with cranberries in it.

Plan for today:  Coffee this morning in the community room.  I might go just to break the monotony.  I could wheel my spare oxygen tank on its little wheels.  I'll get a friend to walk with me.

Menu for today: breakfast - banana strawberry yogurt frozen smoothie.  Lunch - homemade chicken soup with ditalini and maybe salad.  Supper - I think it wll be roast chicken again with potatoes and brussels sprouts.  Lesley is bringing me some of her supper of last night.  She makes the best stuffing.  Snacks - fruit or triscuits with cheese.  Yesterday it was very small servings of everything.  No appetite.

Something strange is going on in the building.  The office is closed for no reason.  The marketing guy, brother of the owner of the building, showed up.  My friends tell me he said that he was there for a meeting about grounds upkeep and was quite annoyed to find that the office was closed and he couldn't raise maintenance on the phone.  Also, the Sheriff has been here and I'm wondering if there will be an impending eviction.  Of course rumors are flying!  This place is like a living telegraph - you find out all that's going on in short order but it's not always accurate.

More on this as I find out!  Stay tuned for the next episode of Trinity House, The Soap Opera.

Time to get back to normal.

Art of the Season by American Impressionist Frank Vincent Dumond

Autumn in Lyme ~ Frank Vincent Dumond, 1925

That was a rough patch I just rode over.  I've had an unplesant few days feeling the worst I've ever felt.  Finally after a good night's sleep (thank you TempurPedic) this morning I'm feeling pretty good.  Now it's just a matter of nasty pills and following doctor's orders, and I should be back to myself in a few weeks, maybe a little the worse for wear.  I have bruises from needle sticks from my knuckles to my elbows on both arms. Looks worse that it is.

Sheila called me in the hospital and read me all your responses here in my journal and caught me up on CC doings.  It kept my mind off awful things.

I'm so lucky.  My daughter, son in law and a car buff friend repaired my car and even took it through a car wash, so it's ready to drive when I'm able. My daughter (who is very professional but takes no crap) stopped in at the office to tell them that if the Crazy Lady makes one peep to disturb me we will take action.  My neighbors are on call and one has already made me soup and my favorite pepper & eggs (fried peppers with scrambled egg) which are good in a sandwich.  Lesley will be here this morning to do my laundry, clean a bit and make me lunch and dinner.  I'm well cared for.

Plan for today - rest.  Make my follow up doctor's appointments.  Eat, sleep and get well.

Menu for today - breakfast - cereal with strawberries.  Lunch - pepper and egg sandwich and salad.  Supper - Lesley is making roast chicken with all the trimmings and we'll eat together.  Snacks - fruits.

I was so happy to come home on a sunny warm day.  Sarah opened the window for me and Bubba and I basked in the sun.  The fresh air felt good and smells like autumn - that sort of wine fragrance with overtones of apples.  I think it comes off the fields and woods on the breeze.

Today:  I'm thankful for all my wonderful CC friends.  You've comforted and cheered me up.  How can I thank you?

Kiss

ahhhhhhh

I think I've eaten really well today, and feeling good about it. I'm trying to be productive tonight and start on my big term paper. I can't believe how little there is left of this term.. roughly 3 weeks. I am freaking out just a bit. Ahhhh! Deadlines!!

Can't wait for being home with Marc though. We're thinking of escaping to his parent's (fabulous) cottage for a romantic week alone on the river in the middle of nowhere, with a hot tub and likely all access to the nicely stocked wine cabinet. (Have I ever mentioned how fantastically wonderful his parent's are? even past their money, they are such great giving people).

So.. the plan to be down to 130 by break is gone. 135 would be awesome though!! 139 now, but that should drop soon.

falafel and veggie pita - 650 (holy cow!)
squash and carrot soup - 140
salad - 150
wine - 80
clementine - 25
more wine - 80 (tackling gravitational time dilations without booze is a terrible idea)
=========
1125 so far

235.7 / no counting.

Excellent show at the Rib Fest. Blue Oyster Cult was the big surprise - they rawked. Geo Thoro was great - old - but great. :)

Not much in the way of eating ribs, but many cups of liquid bread. Stood up for most of the day, listening to music and being, in general, an overgrown child.

All the couples I was with all sport attractive wives - so it was really cool hanging with the hottest chicks in the crowd. I just can't figure out how they manage to stay so well put together - must be the lack of excessive alchohol (except that which I inadvertantly sloshed on some of them during my 'hello' hugs).

It is, of course, mathematically impossible for me to attend something like that without making a fool of myself, but WTF, you only live once.

:D

AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES (That Really Work!)
Nov 14 2009 16:53

AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES (That Really Work!)

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU SLICE.

2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK
WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE..

7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL
 PROBLEM.

DAILY THOUGHT: SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.
