Gummy Bear Dance 2

Gummy Bear Dance 2
Jan 05 2007 01:56
I went to the gym today - getting back into the routine after the
disruption of the holidays and the gym being closed for a few of the
days because of them. I also talked to my hubby and we have decided
that on the days we don't do the gym, we will walk around the
block/neighborhood, even if its just for 15-20 mins or so. I figure
this will help get some more exercise in (for the challenge - tee
hee!), help burn some more calories, and also help me build up my
walking for the treadmill that I use at the gym. I am really wanting
to build up the time that I'm on it. Right now I do between 15 and 20
mins on it, at about 2.5 mph. I have also been working on my
resistance exercises and told hubby today that I think I'm going to
have to either increase the weight or the amount of reps because they
are starting to get a bit too easy! (I have to laugh at that, you
know? Me! I used to *despise* any form of exercise and here I am,
wanting to increase it!!!) Once I get the treadmill up to a decent level, I want to add on the
elliptical. I had tried before, however I really wasn't able to
sustain it - just seemed too much a the time. Now that I'm building
myself up, I want to try again. Also told Wes that I really need a pair of decent sneakers for the gym. The ones I have been using are just not meant for exercising.

Been also working on the water. Yesterday was a BAD day - only got about 1/2 of them in. I was practically forcing the ones that I did do. Just wasn't in a water mood. Right now I'm on glass #7 out of 10 for the day. I swear Jules, I'm trying!!!!!!!! I was going to update the water and exercise tickers on a daily basis, however it's getting to be a bit much, so will probably just do it once or twice a week.
I feel like I'm back on track, and it feels good. Even with today being the first of TTOM, I don't feel all that bad (well, with the exception of the 'ick' feeling that goes along with TTOM). I had my little splurges of the holidays - which actually weren't that much - and now I'm back to doing what I need to get this weight off. On top of everything, I sent out the scale on the 30th and per the tracking info from US Postal Service, it was received at the site on the 3rd, just after 12 noon. They have a 24-48 turn-around service, so I'm hoping it will be sent out by tomorrow at the latest and I should have it back by Monday (?).... I am curious to see what my weight is, and if I was at least able to maintain through the last few weeks. I am hoping (fingers crossed) that I lost. Come to find out that the problems I was having with the scale - the major ups and downs - might have been due to an electrical problem (like a short), so the error code was like the last straw. I'm not sure what to expect. It just BETTER not show me heavier than my last weigh in! (12/16/06 390.2 lbs)

Oh... have to share this with you all. As you may or may not know, with Wes' help, we made turkey broth the other night. We made 45 cups (!!) of turkey broth! Can you say "soups on"???? We have a big stockpot and actually had 3 'carcasses' from turkeys (plus the leg and wing bones) and put them all in with the carrots, celery and onions, and just a lil bit of seasoning (no salt) and about 8 hours later, had stock. Our freezer is FULL of stock. It looks like we've been invaded by the stock people. My kids open the freezer door and just shake their heads and look at me. I had a bunch of those thick, plastic containers that you get from the deli (the big ones hold 3 cups each, the smaller ones hold 1.5 cups each) - there are 13 of the 3-cup and 4 of the 1.5 cup containers in the freezer. I told Wes that I wanted to make a ham stock from the ham bone we saved and froze and I have a soup mix (beans, dried peas, etc) so we'll just put it all together and make a soup at the same time as the stock. I'm really getting into this. Wow... I lead such a dull life. This is sad. LOL
On the non-food side of my life, I need to get to the store and pick up some yarn for an afghan I want to crochet, and I need to get some cross-stitch thread for a project I need to start ASAP for a round-robin that I'm in for a pagan group. We are suppose to do something for Imbolc, which is February 2nd, and suppose to be out in the mail by January 19th! LOL I found a small graphic and charted it with the cross-stitch program I have on my computer. As soon as I get the thread, I can start the darn thing. Shouldn't take me more than a week to get it done. I have a very nice Brigid's Cross to do, and then I'll put it in a simple frame. The other good thing about my crafts is I can't eat while I'm doing them, so that means hands off the goodies! (Yes, method to my madness...)
Hope you are all doing well this week. ::hugs:: to you all!!!

Hi Everyone! Just dropping in to touch base and see how everyone is
doing! I'm ok on this end - just a low-key day here. Wes is making a
roast for dinner tonite - sounds good to me! (He's a chef by
trade.) I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
Working on getting all my water in, in preparation for the January Water Challenge. I read a couple of sites yesterday that had water calculators on them (thanks Jules!) and according to them, I should be getting in at least 16 8-oz glasses of water! I have a hard enough time getting in the 8-10 glasses, I would think at 16, I'd FLOAT! lol Most of the calculators don't let you go above 250 or 299 lbs, so if you weigh more than that, I would think your water intake would be more, right? I also read somewhere that an easy way to figure it out is take your weight, divide it by 2, and that's how many ounces of water you should have day. If I did it that way, I'd have to drink about 195 oz (or just over 24 glasses). YIKES. Now I *know* I'd be floating -- or living in the bathroom all day! That's insane. According to the site (below) that I found earlier today, I should have 237.37 oz (or 29.67 cups) a day, based on my correct current weight!
For those who are interested, or want to make sure you're drinking 'enough', here is a calculator that will take any weight:
Hydration Calculator
by the way, it gives the answer in liters. 1 liter = 33.814 oz.
Happy drinking! Will write more later.

Today is just a quiet day here. Nothing special going on. Think I'm
gonna lay low as my stomach is not feeling all that great. Might just
do the water and some soup, maybe some plain toast - keep it light.
Hope you are all having a wonderful day!! Might check in later... ::hugs:: to all!

Just saying "hi". We're getting the turkey ready to put in the oven (since we didn't have Christmas here, we decided to make the turkey today), and then we are heading to the gym to burn off some of those holiday calories. I'm looking forward to going, actually. Also looking forward to some turkey sandwiches, turkey broth (from the bones) and turkey salad (with light mayo) and anything else turkey I can think of! I'm also making my homemade stuffing, and will have that in moderation. However, since I got "done out" of stuffing at Thanksgiving AND yesterday, I'll be damned if I'm not making it now! And I told everyone that I would make my homemade mashed potatoes, which everyone LOVES. ::sigh:: I guess that means when I get home the kids will be burning some calories while they peel potatoes, huh? (I don't do so well peeling them.)
Hope you are all having a good day. I'll try to write more later!!!

EDIT: Adding more (below)
4:45 PM -- Well we went to the gym and I was able to do all my reps and weights on the resistance machines AND I met my goal of 20 mins of the treadmill, so I am very happy with myself right now! YAY!
Waiting for the turkey to finish. It still has about 2 hours to cook. The house smells SOOOO good, can't wait. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. YUM. Just wish we weren't eating so late, but... can't do much about that at this point.

2nd EDIT: adding more LOL
9:42 PM -- OK...finished eating a lil while ago, and was it soooooo goooooood. Been wanting my homemade stuffing since Thanksgiving, so it was worth the calories. Had white meat instead of dark, and some gravy and potatoes -- and 3 glasses of cold water to wash it all down!! Both Becka and I agree, we feel like we gained 10 lbs from eating, but it was so delicious. I am *quite* full right now - haven't felt this full or bloated in a long time. I forgot what it was like and I'm telling ya, I'm not liking it (even if I did love the food)!!! Every time I want to stuff my face with junk or til I'm ready to explode, I'll have to remember this feeling and maybe I'll stop.
Hope you are all having a good day. I'll try to write more later!!!

Well, Christmas and Yule are officially over, and New Year's is a week away. I'll be glad when this holiday season is over and all the good, tempting food is gone. Even maintaining has been difficult with the seasonal food all over the place. I've been doing my best to be good, have only splurged a couple of times and, with the exception of today, nothing was too overboard.
We had a nice Yule. Made a dinner with sabbat-related foods, invited a few friends and family members, read a couple of Yule stories, lit the candles and shared some small gifts with everyone. It was a fun night, full of laughter and friendship. I was exhausted by the end of the night though.
Christmas was also very nice, low-key. We left here around 3 to go to Wes' aunt and uncle's house to have something to eat and exchange gifts. They had ended up grabbing pizza the day before so we sat around and ate that, talked and open presents. Later on, we went to see the movie "Eragon". It's a good movie, however if you have read it, just warn ya, it doesn't keep totally to the book, which I can understand due to time constraints, but some of what they 'removed' kind of irked me but hey... what can you do? I just hope that the omissions don't alter the 2nd one too much.
We are planning on heading back to the gym tomorrow, to try and burn off some of the dreaded holiday calories. I am actually looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I feel like I have been "slothing" through the last week or so. I haven't had my 8-10 glasses of water lately (have gotten about 2-3 each day) so need to work on getting them back up to my usual amount as well.
On top of everything else, about a week ago my scale DIED. One day/night it's working fine, the next day it's literally showing error messages and shutting down immediately, before you can step your big toe on it. I contacted the company I bought it from - they have been very helpful and even wrote back a page and half email with suggestions of what to check, what to try, and the manufacturer's website link. They also told me "not to worry" that I am covered and the manufacturer should be able to either repair or replace the scale. They even sent me a copy of the receipt so I can send it in with the scale, and they gave me a "gold seal" address which merchants typically use for repairs so that I get (as they called it) "instant turnaround service". They have gone above and beyond, and I have to say I am quite happy with their customer service. So I wrote up the letter tonite to the manufacturer, telling them what exactly was going on. I'll get the whole thing boxed off and hopefully be able to scrape together enough $$ to get it mailed off. If not, may have to wait til the check comes in on the 1st and mail it on the 2nd. It'll be nice to get it fixed and back. It's been about a week that I have been without a working scale and I'm going a little nuts, not being able to keep 'tabs' on myself.

Anyways, it's almost 3:30 AM. I'm gonna go head to bed in a few minutes. I should be back after I have gotten some much needed sleep. I hope you are all doing well. ::Hugs:: to you all!!
