I started South Beach Diet (SBD) 1 week ago and I am hoping that I can find community/support from others through joining CC and using these tools. I am 31, I will be 32 in 12 days. I decided to give myself the gift of health for my birthday so I started SBD with the intention of sticking closely to it until my B day then celebrate and back on to Phase 2.
I weighed in at 185 the day I started. Yesterday morning I weighed in at 179.6 so I am thrilled! But I then decided to have a cheat day and ended up doing good with the food but bad with the drinks. I really enjoy drinking socially and ended up having a few drinks yesterday that I now feel terrible about. I have done so well this first week and then I go an drink calories! I really hope that I wont see terrible consequences as a result. I am back on the wagon now though, and will stay faithful to the diet for the next 12 days until my birthday when I will celebrate with a cheat day!
SBD works well for me as I am a carb addict. I have also done well with Body for Life. The diet plans are similar in that BFL recommends that you eat equal portions good carbs, protien, and green veggies. This is pretty much phases 2 and 3 of SBD. There are several good reasons for the equal part thing that really make sense, such as, you fill up on the green and protien and are tempted less on the carbs, controls cravings, and somehow I think the chemistry of the 3 foods eaten in equal portions also helps with the way your body processes the food. I recommend picking up BFL if you want to learn more.
BFL also has a good exericse program, Its not difficult, basically interval cardio training and weight lifting. The weight lifting isnt difficult either. its really easy and you could do it at home with dumbells you could buy at the local sports store like Dicks Sporting Goods.
Anyhow, I am rambling on like crazy but I wanted to give a quick run down on my weight history.
Ive ALWAYS had a weight problem.
I remember being on my first diet when I was 8 years old.
I joined weight watchers for the first time in 5th grade.
I have very early memories of hating my body and can say that I have hated my body most of my life.
Ive been on every diet imaginable includingbut not limited to: the grapefruit diet, the cabbage soup diet, this old school book my grandma made me read and follow when I was 8 (it worked), weight watchers (joined 7 different times), Body for Life, South Beach Diet, Atkins, and fen phen and other natural pills on the market.
I have lost weight and felt good three times in my life, my senior year of highschool, my sophmore year of college, and in 2004/2005 during the period where I met and married my husband.
The first time(95), I did a low carb diet and exercised at the gym. I got down from a size 14 to a size 6/8 and felt great and was so proud to wear a bikini on my senior trip.
The second time(96) I had gained all the weight back and decided to do fen phen. I LOVED that drug because it erased my cravings. I never thought about food unless my stomach growled. then when I did eat it only took very little to satisfy me. I ended up going off fen phen because of the bad press etc and gained it all back again.
The third time 2004/2005 was strongly motivated by my husband. He is very healthy and like working out. I like to work out too when we go together. I get bord and impatient staying on the cardio machine for long periods of time but I really like cardio classes and lifting weights with my husband. Anyway, I got into great shape then, was a size 6/135/5'7 on my wedding day and honeymoon and felt like a million bucks. I then proceeded to gradually get back to my old ways and have steadily packed on the lbs ever since.
When I started this time I weighed 185, toward the end of 2008 I actually got to 189 and FREAKED OUT. I dont want to weight 190! So thats the short story of how I got to where I am today.
my biggest struggle is staying away from the wine/margaritas. if I can get that under control I think I will do really well and hopefully make a life change that lasts
I would love to connect with others for encouragement, tips and advice along the way. Lets do this together!
