What I usually do when reaching a dead end
My personal experience is that it is easy to lose the first few pounds, but as I am getting close to my target weight, every additional pound just seems to weigh twice as much as the previous one!
That is a good time to kick in some exercise. The amount of calories lost with exercising doesn't seem to make all that much difference, but let me tell you: for this reason or another, increasing the level of my exercise always results in a whole new steep curve in my weight log.
So just when you think you have reached a dead end - perhaps a bit more exercise could help you more than a bit less food. This is something that is probably different from person to person, and each one of us has to learn what out bodies respond to the best.

I agree, during my 102 pound weight loss...I would hit times that the pounds wouldn't budge!
It would take me a night out dancing and bam...I would finally drop!

Your note sounds like you've really accomplished a lot. I'm just starting out ... well starting out "again". I keep trying and starting over. Now I'm very determined to do more than just try. I'm going to make it happen. I know that motivation and encouragement from others is important to me, so I hope to hear from people and learn from their successes. That way, if I'm tempted to slip back into grabbing the wrong thing to eat ... I'll just take a quick detour and walk past the kitchen right to my computer and tune into a support network.
I would really love to hear from others and learn success tips. I need to lose about 50-60 pounds and one of the things that has slowed me down in the past is my concern that after losing 50-60 pounds, I don't want to have lose skin around the stomach. I'm going to walk 5-6 days a week on the treadmill and do strength training with resistance bands, so hopefully that will help.
I look forward to hearing from others and thanks.

Lo...I'm in the same boat as you. I'm starting out again...and I have the same fear of loose skin. I think I have considerably more to lose than you, and I know that appearance is the least of my worries....but I have known others that have lost close to 100 pounds with very little hanging skin. Exercise and plenty of water is the advice I've been given. Remember to hydrate!
Hello Igor
I agree with you regarding kick starting the weight loss, especially when you reach a dead end. Excercise is a great way of doing that indeed. Listening to our bodies is a whole new way of keeping fit. That's something I never really thought about in the previous years of loosing weight. I am a yo-yo dieter and followed many weight loss programmes, but the only weight loss programme I didn't follow is listening to my body. So with that in mind I walk my dog and enjoy the athmosphere of my neighbourhood. Jessie (my dog) is a great walking partner. She is so smart that on days when im sluggish she picks up the pace and helps me get back into the routene. But I always listen to my body, if it wants more excercise I do it, if I am not feeling well, I act upon this too......see you next time

Hey all,
I just read the note for the tips for 50 lbs weight loss results.
Last year i lost 50lbs, and I don't have any loose skin
hanging anywhere. I did use lots of lotion though to keep my skin very hydrated during the summer. (i used nivea firming lotion) since it targeted the elasticity issue with skin.
Also i became a real fruit and berry junkie, berries have high antioxidants and help with skin appearance.
Just so you know, when i gained all my weight, I got huge stretch marks and i vowed to myself not to let my body and skin go to waste anymore.
now if anyone has stretchmark tips lemme know ;-)
Ps, im starting over again also lol, darned holiday season added 9lbs, (plus being lazy didn't help) so now its time to get back to that summer look

I like your reply rocker-gal.
I notice that the people who have mentioned that they have no or little loose skin are quite young...that makes a world of difference!
It also makes a difference as to how long that extra weight has been "hanging" around.
I didn't lose my 102 pounds until I was 48 years old, and had carried that weight for over 20 years.
I started out right away doing cardio and weight training in an effort to avoid hanging skin. But unfortunately I have it and am planning a tummy tuck sometime this year because of it. I have worked so very hard to get where I am, and want the results to be as good as I can get them.

Good for you! That is my resolution to be as good as I can be. Huggers to you tap.
Thanks, Lurleen!
hanging skin....arrrrrrghhhh...the bane of my existence! i have lost 61 lbs to date (i'm 59 yrs old, almost) and carried a lot of extra weight for YEARS....like over 40 of them...and the batwings and apron are here to stay, i fear. Can't afford to have it removed, but i won't let that extra ugly skin hold me back! I'm going to lose the last 100.6 lbs and be thrilled to be so healthy when i get there!
this is exactly how I am also!!!. but the exercise has to get my heart rate up or it doesn't work.
My calories are the same, 1,200 and haven't had time to walk this week, but have worked hard unpacking boxes......didn't lose and won't till I get out there pumping my legs.
