UUUummm---CONNFUUSSED!???

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, I went to the University of Maryland Medical Center page cause it was listed on someones comment that they had useful HEALTH calculators for how much of everything you should get a day in consideration of your age, weight etc.
    So I am 19----- 5' 1''.----87 lbs....working at recovery from anorexia---
IT told me that taking that into account, I should be having 1180 cals. a day! I'm confused cause ON THIS site-----in order to MAINTAIN---it tells me 1800. BESIDES----haven't I also heard that the body can't function properly on less than 1200?
also told me:
only 20 g. fiber ( I ATE 46 G. YESTERDAY at 1460 cal.)
68 g. protein  (119 g. YESTERDAY!)
250 g. carbs  (200 g. yesterday)
54 g. FAT     (33 g. yesterday)

       SOOooo.....how do I do this?
who's right? How many cals. should I eat? How much fiber, protein, carbs, fat?
       &nb sp;      oye :)
ANY help is appreciated! THANKS!

Hey Amanda: I just wanted to let you know that this site is waaayy wrong! Your stats are too low to be having anything lower than 1800 honestly. I am taller than you but even at my lowest weight 5'7 and 94pounds I was told I needed like close to 2500 now at 104pounds I need 2200 so please do not look at this resource as accurate. Keep up the fantastic work that you are doing towards your recovery and check the WHO site. Hope this helps!!! XOXOXOXO
Do you have a link to this site?  I'd like to look at it and see how they can be so far off.  Every medical expert in the world says that a small, thin, totally sendentary female needs 1200 calories minium to meet nutritional needs.

       &nb sp;               &nb sp;          http://www.umm.edu/healthcalculators/
and I guarantee if you type in my stats-----19, 5' 1'', 87  lbs...with moderate activity cause I work 8  hr days in a pastry kitchen....that they will tell you 1180 cals!
odd----and it really confused me at first
but THANKS to you and LINNY'S comments, I realize this is ridiculously low and WAY off :) Check it out though----it's mis-leading
         thanks a bunch again

LINNY!---
THANK you for your re-enforcement in my current eating habits. :)
I was scared at first that I was eating like WAAay to many cals. when they said 1180---but then stopped and thought about it realistically for a sec.
HAVE A GREAT DAY !:) I already have my blue-cheese, pear, and turkey wrap packed for dinner at work tonight. Topped with scallions, tomato and lettuce salt and pepper............ :) along with some veggies and a side of hummus to dip them in.  Oh---and a pickle :)       CAN'T WAIT TO EAT IT! HA!
&nb sp;               not sure what lunch will be. :)
       &nb sp;               &nb sp;   have a great day :)

Don't take this the wrong way, but your weight is probably so low that that calculator didn't know how to do the math for you.
Here is another site that you can determine your intake by...it really worked for me!!

http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-b urned

xoxoxox!!
yeah- the university of maryland calculator is way off. i'm 5'9" and weigh 175lbs. it told me to only eat 1500 calories a day. i'd be starving! i eat around 1800-2200 calories a day and am losing weight. i'd trust CC more!
Positivelinny- that link you posted is great! It goes in to such interesting specifics like what I would need if I were pregnant. thanks!
I don't like the U of Maryland site too much, I'm using as a reference and comparing the values as I research specific nutrition information for myself and it seems to be somewhat lacking in all areas.  The site positelinny suggested is my favorite so far, but remember that they give a lot of additional information so ignore the pregnant and lactating information unless it applies to you.

Omg!! Hahahahah this site is totally crazy. Do they have the posibility to treat you in change of great money or wtf?? I took most of the test, well, calculators or health calculators there and guess what: I suffer from every possible thing listed there. I should be dead and burried by now... i tested the site: by answering only one question with yes it gets your result to : Sick sick sick. That's insane. caughing, huh??? yep, you must have astma, aso asf. THE SITE SUCKS. Here's something else you'd like to hear: i'm dealing with a kind of anorexia to... recovering actually, x bulimic, now obsessed with what i eat insted of purging it. Anyway here's what i've been through: Normally you are looking up at 6 months of totally unexpected changes: like super weight gain, super apetite or exactly the opposite- so bottom line for the first 6 months of living normally your body will be in shock, but believe me it's worth it.

my 1st month : only salat and snack or sweets binges, crying for food, crying daily trying not to purge and overeat; around 1000c/day (but that's summed up, cause my days were like 500 1800 800 700 2000, all ups and downs) result: 8 lbs more

2nd month: tried adding some meat, boiled of course and the regular binges; ate around 1400/day -2 lb ?!?!?!?

3rd month: nice, meat and yougurt almost daily, couple of snack, couple of fries, ice cream and other yummy stuff; around 1400/day +4 lb oops???

4th month: cool let's try dieting, like that was a good ideea.. i was eating only carbs or only protein, you know the diet... 1200/day STUCK no weight change

5th month: ok so i thought my intake was too high.. going down to 1000/day result -4lb

6th month: i thought this was a good time to start maintaining so ate 1250/day as i thought my BMR was the same with the daily caloric need; result: -4 lb great...

7th month:  raising cals to 1350/ day result: - 2lb. ?!?!?

Now i'm eating 1450/day as that is my actual daily cal need and i've finally understood it.  What i am trying to say is that it's gonna be hard for the first few months and stupid and unexplainable things may happen, but not to worry, your body will recover and will sooner or later act as a normal one. Believe me i am eating way more now than when i had started recovery (and gained weight) and i'm amazed to see that apparently what i call MUCH isn't enough..

You guys are welcome for the site...I really like it too because the numbers are exactly like what my nutritionist worked out math wise for me...also you can get really specific. As far as the weight change thing goes, I have definitely experienced changes of up and down and up and down. I am finally at maintanence level and I haven't weighed myself in a week (too scared and yet don't want to hender my progress) so we shall see. But since the body is in shock and everything is does take a while like develinne said in order for everything to balance all out..I can't wait because this sucks haa!
