I took a week off to visit my family and friends out-of-state. So far, I'm totally BLOWING my diet! It's only been three days so far and I've eaten everything from rice, tacos, cheesecake, bread, pizza, Doritos, strawberry shortcake, chocolate, bbq ribs, nachos, stir fried noodles, buffalo wings, artichoke dip, and apple pie! To make it worse, I haven't had time to work out.
Why does "bad" food have to taste so friggen good?
Starting today, I'm going to control my portions and attempt to eat more healthy for the rest of the week. Oh yes, I'm also going to hit the local gym later. Wish me LUCK.

dvang- I wish you the best luck girl! I will be visiting friends and family from out of state this friday for a week and I am soooo nervous! They are all very overweight and dont care. Hubby promises we will work out while we are there. I alreday know we are cooking out "NC Style" so that means lots of pork bbq! Be an example for all of those you are around and show them you can do this! I have officially lost 20lbs and have no desire on gaining any of that back!
i'm glad you checked in with us, dvang. it shows you the plan is working---it's raised your awareness . . .
now for the hard part, pushing away half of everything. the formula that works for me is: 1/2 portion = 1/2 calories. you'll be very glad if you did this, when you get home next week.
can you go get some lowfat snacks to help fill you up before you are faced with the temptations? some nonfat yogurt, a couple of apples, some string cheese?
and don't forget about water, water, water . . .
but do enjoy your visit, focus on your friends, and family. they are more important than food, and it is okay to splurge now and then.

dvang -- I'm on vacation too, and I know exactly what you mean! But as Elin says, it's good that you're aware of what's going on. Don't go and feel awful about yourself, but try to be more concsious about what you're putting in your mouth (Elin, your 1/2 = 1/2 point is a good one!). Look at me, giving you all this advice; I should be listening to it myself!
One last point: don't weigh yourself! I did that this morning (on a different scale, of course, since I'm not at home), and it says I've gained 6 pounds! That can't be...right??
Have a fun vacation :)

Good Luck! We know you can do it!!!
One day at a time.

I agree with elin, just eat 1/2 of everything- that way you can still eat what everyone else is eating and aren't the party pooper on the diet, BUT the damage won't be too bad.
Props to you for planning to go to the local gym. That is great. Even a morning walk would be beneficial, or some sort of recreational activity with the rest of the fam, if possible. Good Luck!

Your vacation is just like my weekends! Agghh! :) True true... the bad foods are the best tasting ones. I ate ribs last night... (Actually... A rib...) Bad me. Let's snap our fingers and hope to wake up to a bad dream... :)

This is what I try do do when I'm going somewhere I know there will be temptation. Maybe pop down to the local market and stock up on healthy food choices to share. Sugar free jello w/fresh berries and a dollop of light reddi-whip instead of cheesecake... or frozen juice bars that you have to eat slowly... popcorn, baby carrots... choices so you can blend in w/the group w/o the guilt and calories. Most importantly, don't beat yourself up over it. Just get back on the program when you get home and move forward :)

its hard.. but i went to see my boyfriend last week as my "vacation"
and at lk.. ALL the time.. EVERY day.. HWATEVER i wanted... I came back
w/ only a 2 lb weight gain.. haha.. which i was VEY suprised about..
you'd be suprised but if you're on vaca and moving around.. you're pry
burning about 2,000 or more cals a day.. and even if you ate 2,400 cals
aday (which can be hard)... it would take you a week to gain a POUND of
fat... so dont be too hard on yourself!!! =) I was eating lk... 3,500
cals a day haha. but I was also moving constantly every single day and
running for an hour in the mornings so thats why I only gained 2 lbs..
i should have pry gained almost 5 if I hadnt been active...

You should pick and choose which of the junk foods you want to eat. Having everything on that list is bad, yes, but if you just have, say, a slice of pizza and a small piece of strawberry shortcake one day, or a taco and a small piece of apple pie another, and be sure to balance that out by sticking to your diet the rest of the day, you should be fine. Just keep track of the junk calories just like the rest of your calories, so you don't go too much over your daily calories. Then, as soon as you get back home, get back on the wagon as quickly as possible.
*hugs*
Thanks for the awesome advice and support...I love this website! I've still been cheating...just not as heavily. I hate how food and drinks are always the center of social gatherings...it's always greasy, salty, fatty foods too...lol.
I tried going to the local gym here, but it sucks and I really miss my gym back at home. All I know is...when I get back next week, I'm going on a STRICT diet and HARDER workout routine (I was doing fabulously before I went on vacation).
Anyway, muchos gracias for the love!
