Vacation, Thai food

Quote  |  Reply

I have been enjoying Thai food for the last week and still have another week to go. :) No idea if I am maintaining, loosing or gaining, and frankly don't really care! I think counting calories was taking over my life, and this is a good "reset". Once I get back, I will have to see if I should start counting again or just try to eat normal portions, and healthy.

Yummy, Thai food is really delicious. :D

I spent 2 weeks in Thailand, really enjoyed the food and returned to see that I had maintained my weight. The food is delicious, the portions small, and desserts are healthy, unlike the high fat European desserts. However, I ate mostly vegetables, rice, and grilled fish since I rarely eat meat. Have you tried pineapple rice? Mango sticky rice? Fantastic. Enjoy the food, enjoy the trip and the beautiful country.

Yep I have tried those. I love grilled fish here, and other grilled stuff. I got a bit tired of sweet stuff thought. Damn fruits a cheap here! I have been eating tons ever since I got here. I am not a big fan of Tom Yum soup thought. I think it's by association, I got a bit sick few month back from a broth that had similar stuff. I think it reminds me too much of that. I only had curry here three times. Once the one I made in cooking class, and two times it was prepared by our guides during a three day hike I did. Anyway after experiencing the variety of food here, I don't think I will be going to "Thai" restaurants in the U.S. The food is just not the same.

Unfortunately yesterday I have developed a mild food poisoning. :( I am not really sure from what. I was with a company for New Years Eve and A LOT of sea food was ordered. I was somewhat embaraced to be part of that group. It was really really really over the top. I tried a bit of everything, but pigged out on crab. :( It could have been from that, or couple raw oysters, or ice cream I had the next day. I think it was just the combination of everything.

I hope I can get better by tomorrow evening. I heard there is an amazing Sushi place around here. It's not Thai food, but it suppose to be really really good.

Thai Foods are delicious and I love it! especially Pad Thai and panang cury.. yum and I know mostly asian's food are high in fats and cholesterol because they're mostly stir fry or deep fry. Asian's foods also well known with high sodium from soy sauce and MSG, so eating Thai Foods for a week staright is not good for your body, you'll fell weak and dizzyness from all the sodium that you've been consumed. You should moderate the foods with some greens and fruits... :)

Who said I felt weak and dyzzy? I felt great! None of lack of energy and tiredness I felt on/off most of last year back in the U.S. Even food poisoning wasn't as severe as the one I got in U.S. few month back.

Actually very little of oil is used in stir fry, that is kind of the point. Stuff sold from street vendors for the most part is not that bad. A lot of grilled choices, soups, and stir fry, a lot of vegetables. Portions are not huge like they are in U.S. There are of course deep fried stuff, but there are other choices. Also done properly deep frying is not all that bad. I was at this restaurant favored by locals and we ordered a fried fish in some kind of sauce. Although outside was deep fried, inside fish was very juicy without any hint that oil got inside. So skipping the skin it was almost like it was steamed.

The best part you can see how it is cooked. As I said real Thai food is not the same as stuff sold in U.S. restaurants. I would choose Thai food over American food, and Thai food made in restaurants in America any time of the day.

I did mention in my previous post that I was eating tons of fruits. Also I love the spicy squid salad, and papaya salad. Mmmm.
