6. How do you organize your recipes? I don't, I just remember them. But i'm thinking of compiling them into some sort of notebook, so when i open up my own vegan restaurant i'll have a head start.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? trash. i don't have a garbage disposal, and i don't have enough time for a compost.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)? black beans, baked tofu (italian flavor), and avocado.

9. Fondest food memory from your childhood? Every Sunday my family would go to the local store, the book nook, and get dove chocolate bars for a treat. (obviously i wasn't vegan or lactose intolerant then.)

10. Favorite vegan ice cream? SO DELICIOUS anything.

12. Spice/herb you would die without? I love dill. A LOT.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh? Good ole' tofu. I can't have wheat so seitan is out. And tempeh is too chewy for me.

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)? Probably dinner. I like the coziness of it, at night, a nice warm meal.

6. How do you organize your recipes? I dump em all in a drawer in the kitchen.  It's a little unorganized but at least they're all in one place.  I also have a bunch of cookbooks, but generally if I am looking for a recipe I don't have I will just search online.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? I am in the market for a composter!  But now it's the trash.  I occasionally use it for small things, but the garbage disposal is very bad to use a lot!!

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time? The red and white checked Better Homes and Gardens - had it since elementary school.  However I also inherited some of my grandmother's cookbooks, which are definitely older, but she owned them, not me, until recently.

15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend? Marinated grilled veggies and tofu.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh? They're all good in their own way - it depends on the recipe.  In general I use tofu the most, though.

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)? Definitely dinner/evening.  Although sometimes on Sundays I will cook in the afternoon, but it still ends up being a dinner meal.  On Sundays we usually eat a late breakfast and skip lunch, then an early dinner.

18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator? A couple of empty growlers and our ice bucket for wine.  Oh yeah and a lunch box.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking.  Tofu, frozen peas and carrots, some leftovers (tempeh piccatta and gnocchi)

20. What's on your grocery list? thyme and celery seeds - ran out this week.

I'm technically a vegetarian, but lately I've been trying to be as vegan as I can. Once I'm back at school it will be easier to be fully vegan. I'm taking the survey for fun anyway:

1. Favorite non-dairy milk? Silk (regular). I never really liked to drink milk, I just use it in baking, and for coffee/hot cocoa.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?

- tofu with spicy peanut sauce, with some steamed broccoli

- planning to finally make my own hummus: I have so many cans of chickpeas!

- Finally venture into cooking seitan, probably with barbecue sauce

 

3. Topping of choice for popcorn? usually don't eat it, but plain


4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure? haven't been vegan long enough for any huge disasters, but I tried to make a sandwich with veganrella and i HATED the taste

5. Favorite pickled item? I prefer fresh veggies, but I like pickles sometimes

6. How do you organize your recipes? I just use OneNote. Actually, I use it for almost everything.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? use the trash of course, but my mom started a compost in the backyard which we use when possible

20. What's on your grocery list? i just went shopping so my kitchen is pretty much stocked, but next week I want to pick up some miso paste, seitan, maybe more whole wheat bread, and a variety fruits, vegetables as usual

21. Favorite grocery store? Wegman's. I also like this local country food market, although it's SO expensive. I love Whole Foods but the closest is 45 mins away, which is just too far for me.

3. Topping of choice for popcorn? I don't eat popcorn that much, but when I do I top it with nutritional yeast or eat it plain. I am the only one I know who will eat plain, unsalted, unbuttered popcorn! xD


4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure? Last year I made popovers. They called for 2 teaspoons of salt, and I accidentally put in 2 tablespoons. Since it only made 4, each one has half a tablespoon of salt and tasted horrible!

6. How do you organize your recipes? I print out ones I like and file them in a binder.


7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal?We have a garbage disposal in the sink, and obviously have trash cans. However, I recycle as much as possible so they don't fill up too fast.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)? Whenever I think of islands I think of coconuts and pineapple. So there would probably be lots of yummy things like that...But I would bring yams, black beans, and really good Spelt Oat bread.


9. Fondest food memory from your childhood? I have gone, for the last six years, to a golf tournament with my Dad. I have fond memories of eating Hot Dogs and Lemon Icees...the tournament was this past weekend, and I, needless to say, did not have a Hot Dog or a Lemon Ice. Instead, I had premade Black Bean pasta salad with Sun-Dried tomato orzo.

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time? The first one I ever bought was 'Kids Cook in the Kitchen'. However, my new favorites are Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan! and Vegan with Vengeance.

Favorite flavor of jam/jelly? I usually have my PB plain. On occasions, though, I love Pomegranate-- we get it from a local place.


15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend? Mediterranean Tofu- has Sun-Dried tomatoes, garlic, Roma Tomatoes, and Kalamata Olive Oil. Tasty and different...

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh?Good old tofu wins here. Although I like tempeh, the texture of tofu is more appealing to my palette. Seitan has a very meat-like texture, and one of the reasons I ever considered vegetarianism is because the texture of meat isn't so appealing to me.

20. What's on your grocery list? Hmmmm....Our friends, who are going out of town for two weeks, gave us all of their produce. A whole shopping bag full of bell pepper, romaine, onion, tomatoes, and grapes! Right now, I don't have nearly the amount of produce I usually do...

tofutti cuties at one point were the death of me! I made it up to like 155lbs when I was vegan for the first time years ago, and most of that was from tofutti cuties, rice dream ice cream (that was all they had back then) and home made french fries! Anyway...

At the moment I'm a raw vegan who upon occasion has raw cheese.

1. Favorite non-dairy milk? I'd have to say coconut water from young coconuts. I really have an issue with drinking anything milky, mostly because I was raised without milk and I've never drank a glass of straight milk before. I also make my own raw almond-date milk for thickening recipes and smoothies, however.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?or uncook lol! I just made some raw kale hummus, I've been experimenting with raw marzipan, and when I get back to the cafe the 'uncook' said he was going to teach me how to make raw stuffed mushrooms!

4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure? raw dehydrated spinach balls...as opposed to 'meat balls'. Maybe it's because my mom used canned tomatoes for the sauce...it tasted like foamy canned spongey spinach...

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? I would love to compost but I live in an apartment complex and...well, that wouldnt' go over too well with the neighbours.


8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)? First of all lemme say I hope to God there'd be an endless supply of young coconuts and a machete for me to bust them open with! I would need some raw cacao powder, too, and agave nectar. Everything else I think would probably already be on the island; raw island food rocks!


9. Fondest food memory from your childhood? I grew up in nature. my fondest memory is of my 'pet tree'. I would sit outside with it and talk to it, and I'd bring out my pink plastic tea set and fill it with water; I'd have a sip then I'd pour a sip at the base of the tree. It was a weeping willow by the creek by my childhood home.

Favorite vegan ice cream? the cafe I'm apprenticing at makes this awesome raw ice cream out of bananas; they make a sundae and they have stuff that's kinda like reese's peanut butter cups inside, then a sort of raw vegan 'hot fudge' on top. It's simply amazing. We've come a looong way since rice dream, people!


11. Most loved kitchen appliance? My cuisine art food processor/blender all in one thingie.

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time? Foods and Wine of Spain. Amazing, rustic recipes in there. Everything I've tried has come out wonderful. And it's real old school; we're talking using egg shell halves to measure amounts instead of tablespoons and cups and whatnot.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking. I keep my raw nuts in the freezer if I don't think I'm going to go through them fast enough. I also have my flaxmeal in there to protect it from weevils, and my husband has ice cream sandwiches and pizza in there.


20. What's on your grocery list? I'll just list off what I got most recently: young coconuts, kale, romaine, mixed baby greens, blueberries, apricots, avocados, lime, cilantro, raw cashews, raw tahini, carrots, bananas, zucchini

21. Favorite grocery store? WHOLE FOODS. I hate their prices and their business practices with locals (I've heard bad things), but they have great produce and a great raw section and overall are the best.

22. Name a recipe you'd love to veganize, but haven't yet. I need to learn how to make the raw felafel at the cafe, and the raw pizza.
