Vegan/Vegetarian Protein Powders?

Quote  |  Reply
Can anyone recommend a vegetarian (preferably vegan) protein powder? I need to boost my protein intake a bit and I'm having trouble doing it with, you know, regular food! I've added more tofu to my diet but, really, there is only so much you can eat! :-)

So if anyone uses protein power let me know what kind, how it tastes, what you mix it with, etc. Thanks!!

for VEGAN powders, Soy Delicious. no whey at all in it. put it in a blender with a banana and some other fruit. definitely blender, it's gross just stirred or shaken. (vanilla kind)

you can also use the chocolate kind to make a crappy protein mocha if you're a coffee drinker.
oh ma gawd.... I just bought some and was about to post a what the heck do I do with this stuff question.  I got some "unflavored" stuff... can I toss it into anything?  juice, soup, tomato sandwiches?

some ideas/outcomes work better than others?  this stuff has like 60 g of protein for .5 cup.  don't think I need to eat .5 cup....
Holland and Barret spinola protein powder! I have the strawberry one.. ohhh for the unflavoured, you stick in in juice, on fruit in anything! hot drinks.... yeh. So as long as you eat it it doesnt matter what you put it on (im pretty sure..) I drink my strawberry one with my Alpro Soya Light milk... so its extra protein!!
I bought a chocolate soy protein mix a while back and its awesome. Definitely agree w/saroful blend it! When you stir its all lumpy and...well gross. I usually put rice milk with it if I want it lighter and soy milk if I want more of a shake. I mixed blueberries/bananas in with it once, it was amazing. Good luck to you :)
ooohh, and I have a bunch of fresh summer berries in my fridge!  I am so gonna try that later!

thanks gals.

Spring Valley Vanilla Soy Protein rocks my socks off.
i use the soy delicious powder, too. its amazing. if you cook, you can add it to whatever you cook. i mostly make smoothies with it with fruit and some energy blend supplement. i think there's chocolate, vanilla, and "natural" flavor. but it's completely vegan, too.
oh and you don't have to eat the whole serving size, just like with food! i usually only use enough to get my daily protein needs (about 45g i think). also, caffeine can inhibit the uptake of nutrients from food, so it'd be better to not put it in something caffeinated.

Store brand "Soy protein isolate" is really good. :) When I drank the stuff, I added it to my soy milk.

I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian and have to use a protein supplement (serious stomach surgery).  I prefer the whey protein supplements like Champion Banana Scream, chocolate, vanilla, etc.  It isn't sweetened with sugar and mixes easily with water.  The soy protein supplements give me such terrible gas that my dogs leave the room so I steer clear of those things.  Whichever kind you get, watch out for hidden calories like sugar or those that need to be mixed with milk or juice. (Unless you can afford a zillion extra calories and sugar.) The online store Netrition has good prices and you can buy sample size packages of different protein supplements at Vitalady.  I'd give you the url's but I'm not sure it is allowed.  Google them and you'll find them.  I've been using protein supplements for 4 years now so the one thing I recommend most strongly is trying a sample before you plunk down the bucks for a 5 pound jug of protein supplement powders.
