How do vegans/vegetarians get rid of headaches?

Quote  |  Reply

When I get headaches I take tylenol or exedrin. But, I'm just starting out as a vegetarian and after 2 months of being a vegetarian I'd like to be a vegan. So what to I do to get rid of headaches? Any vegan friendly medicines or something... preferably something I can get at a place like Wal-Mart or something....please help. Thanks

Here comes the hippy!

YOGA!

I've found that my 95% whole foods based 100% vegan diet doesn't cause too many headaches (no chemicals to stimulate them) but I do get them occasionally either when I'm on or about to be on my period or if I've had my contacts in too long.

This page might help... http://www.yogabasics.com/yogatherapy/headach e.html

I remember I used to get headaches because a) I wasn't getting enough iron in my diet and b) I wasn't drinking enough water or eating enough food. Drink plenty of water and make sure you are getting enough iron (check your analysis page and hover your mouse over today's date - it's in blue). Also make sure that you are getting atleast 1200 calories a day.

Here are some ways to relieve headaches without pills: http://mnmn.essortment.com/naturalheadache_rw tg.htm

Just take some ibuprofien but stay away from the gelatine caps. Medicine is a hard area to be perfectly Vegan unfortunatly. Also, don't take too many drugs for your ailments and all will be well. An occasional pain med is understandable. :3
Drink plenty of water.  Many headaches stem from being dehydrated.

Caffeine can sometimes help alleviate headaches (it's a main ingredient in pills like Excedrin.)
I just don't use any medicine at all. Not saying if I were in a life-threatening condition I wouldn't, but for "harmless" ailments, I find the natural approach better anyway.
For headaches, try some herbal/household remedies, or as I do, some messaging techniques, a dark room with a wet facecloth and some sympathy from my bf.
The messaging stuff works pretty well. I just press/rub on the spots where my acupuncturist used to focus on when I was being treated for migraines in middle school. I'd advise reading up on it.
I find since going veg, headaches are way less frequent anyway!
Yeah!! I've only been a vegetarian for 5, going on 6 days but before I became a vegetarian I would have a headache, literally every day. I would take 2-4 exedrin a day. The first and second day I became a vegetarian I had a bad headache but, I tried to fight it since I don't want to consume gelatin which is in the tylenol I have so I waited and a day or so later I was all right and ever since I've been fine. Although I need to learn not to listen to my music so loud on my ipod because I think that is what contributes to my constant headaches and whenever or if ever I get a headache I heard that boiling some rosemary in water and drinking it will help but, I'm not sure since I haven't tried it. Otherwise I will just always try to fight my headaches and not use any meds. But so far I haven't had any lately which is rare.

as a vegan I take regular medicine, such as you mentioned, tylenol or excedrin.

every drug isle ive ever seen has them in non-gelcap versions.

I havnt found vegetarianism/veganism to have any effect positive or negative on headaches personally.
