vegans vs. vegetarians vs. meat eaters vs. cannibalism
mods- please don't move this to the vegetarian forums i would like everyone to see this and comment and i don't believe it will get much viewing in there. If you are going to move it there b/c you have to or something then you may as well just go ahead and delete it... thanks =)
So i'm not trying to start arguments or anything like that, i'm just curious what we all think of each other and the topic in general. I have to run some errands but i will be back

I believe that everyone should be allowed to eat whatever the heck they want to eat without persecution or any ill will toward any individuals. If you are against eating meat for the sake of the animal, then that is your opinion. Good for you. If you eat meat because you like it, that is your opinion. Good for you. No one persons eating habits are the right way or the wrong way to eat. It?s all a matter of taste and opinion.
What jewelsmcblah said. ^^Totally agree.
I don't think less of meat eaters- I just think it's disgusting, just like I don't think less of smokers- I just think it's disgusting.
You forgot to ask what judgements we have about cannibals. Now them, they are just gross.
I don't think more highly of vegans, than I do veggies either.

what do we all think about cannibalism? I think it's fine, if you don't like the person.... lol j/k
lol
I have seen a lot of online debates on this subject and I'm not sure why it gets so heated on either end. I don't eat a lot of meat because I don't like it, I don't have an ethical standpoint on the issue.
I hear a lot of people say that vegans and vegetarians are jerks who push their v* agenda on everyone but I have yet to meet (hehe meat) one that does that, and I know quite a few.

I'm vegetarian. I don't understand how people can eat meat... just the thought disgusts me. But since I'm dating a guy who is basically a carnivore, I'm obviously not against meat-eaters. I just don't understand em is all ;-P
I wish, however, that meat-eaters would buy local farm meat only, or at least only from places they know treat the animals well. Many bigger companies have vile living conditions and treat the animals terribly.
As for veganism, it annoys me when vegans have a holier-than-thou attitude but if they live a peaceful life accepting everyone for who they are, thats just peachy. Same goes for vegetarians and meat-eaters, though.

That would be ideal, but not everyone can afford to buy meat that way. The cost of animals being treated well is very pricey. It's expensive enough to feed oneself on a small income. I can't imagine how much it would be to feed a family.

<--- peaceful vegan
well i think if everyone skipped meat for one day each week it would add up and get the meat industry asking 'why aren't people eating as much meat?' and then everyone could reply 'because we don't like the disgusting conditions you are raising and slaughtering your animals in' and then they would say 'well if we want people to buy more meat, we'd better improve those conditions'....
thoughts?

i'm all for boycotting!
I don't want to stop eating meat for one day. I like meat. I don't have a problem with anyone who doesn't and I don't see why people have a problem with me eating meat. It's my body I get to choose.
I am by no means trying to persuade anyone to cut meat out of their diet even for a day. I am merely suggesting it as a way of helping the issue of animal cruelty and global warming. Whether or not people are willing to this is a personal choice. Of course being vegan, the choice of other people to lessen their dependency on animal products even for a day would make me very happy. But, i am realistic and do my best to remain non-judgemental in almost all topics. I do not judge meat eaters- most people i know are, and most of them are wonderful people.
How come canibalism wasn't listed?
Well, people do eat each other in some religious ceremony or when in extremely harsh conditions... Not that I think human meat are a delish, but I did hear that human meat are good. Tastes like chicken.

I just felt that it was wrong to exclude a group because of their beliefs.
Canabolism is perfectly acceptable as long as you're in a country where it is not illegal, or if you're in a movie about a plane crash.

Well, technically, the thread isn't 'vegans vs vegetarians vs animal (non-human) meat eaters'...
:D
I think this is a lot like many other environmental issues in our society. Those to whom is makes a significant difference will inconvenience themselves a bit to make changes. Those to whom it makes no difference will not. Not saying it's right or wrong, just accepting that there will be people who will always have their personal reasons (which of course they have the right to) for not eating locally or organic.
Me, I switched to being a pescetarian (although I only eat seafood about once a week or so right now) partially because I didn't want to keep buying organic meat. Instead of saying it was cheaper to buy regular meat (the thought of which disgusts me) I chose to just quit meat.
Doesn't make my decision better or worse than anyone else's, it was just the logical one to me. And, I too am one that wishes the veg*an community were a bit more open, that the imperative was doing whatever can be done as opposed to creating an exclusionary mindset.

Im not going to voice a pro-anything sentiment...but this thought did cross my mind, so Ill throw it out there.
Meat hasnt always been consumed in the mass quantity it currently is by many Americans. Even 50-75 years ago, meat was farm raised and cost more depending on where you lived, etc.
Today - the meat industry has become pretty toxic (in the most literal sense of the word). In order to drive prices down, availability up, and sell more product - the meat industry has started using practices such as hormone injections, antibiotic injections, very close quarters, etc. As a byproduct, the waste/pollution has definitely increased, the meat contains god knows what, and of course there is the animal cruelty side.
I understand that people enjoy eating meat and may not care about animals, but I dont quite understand the 'Ill eat as much as I want of a low-quality product because I dont want to eat less of a high quality product' arugment.
To me this sounds oddly similar to the arguement many of us used to reinforce our unhealthy eating when we were heavier (I know I used to say I couldnt afford to eat better than hostess cakes and mac n cheese!). But I was just fooling myself.

i added cannibalism to the name of the forum for those who want to talk about it =)
I think anyone who can watch 'meet your meat' on the peta website and not be disgusted with themselves is well.... going to always eat meat

Thanks Kiwi.
When you eat the enemy's flesh, you are supposed to gain their strength.
When you eat vegetables, are you turning yourself into a vegetable?
I am just trying to use logic here.......

i'm taking a break from the religious discussion for the rest of the night- they don't seem interested in my topics about the existence of ghosts and who created god anyway lol
